I think if there is friction between male otaku and fujoshi, it's because we both share similar interests and personalities. It's not like arguing with a normalfag -- who cares what normalfags think. Otaku and fujoshi are a bit like each other, and they still aren't seeing eye-to-eye.

I consider myself an otaku and I don't hate fujoshi. I can't speak for them, but I think we would potentially have a lot in common. As long as they are not completely disgusting (excessively fat, doesn't bathe, etc), I may even pursue a pure romantic relationship with one

Due to physiological differences between men and women, women can choose to be more selective than men in their choice of mate. A lot of men are pretty much willing to stick it anywhere -- women know this, so when they see an otaku who's given up 3DPD, they feel rejected. Not in a specific sense, but in a more general sense. An otaku is "unattainable" not because he is particularly attractive, but the focus of power has changed from "I don't want to seduce this man" to "I will never be able to seduce this man."

So the otaku has taken something away from the fujoshi. The fact that it wasn't something the fujoshi particularly wanted is irrelevant. Wouldn't you be angry if somebody stole something from you?

You may be right as far as western otaku culture goes, but not as a whole. There isn't just a yaoi day at comiket. A good 50% of every day is yaoi or directed at fujoshi. There is more boy love than Touhou or anything else. Plus, at lest 50% of people there are female. Male oriented stuff may shown off more, but fujoshi are in no way underrepresented.
