Tea Q&A: http://pastebin.com/JJS2ZBzK

Lately, tea threads haven't been doing so well. The last one died after barely a day. I had an idea: if there is an interest, I will create an IRC tea channel on Rizon. If this is something a lot of you would like, let me know. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be making these threads. I am glad that I was able to get a lot of people interested in tea, but there doesn't seem to be enough activity to keep the threads alive.

Waiting warmly to see what kind of response will brew.

Just bump the thread twice a day like the GUSTfriends do and you'll be fine.

I like tea but I hate IRC so no, thanks.

Sure, why not? Not like it only has to be about tea.

>> No.9099939

I'd idle an IRC channel. I'm going to get some water tonight for some more iced tea. I realized I hadn't drank any mugicha in over three weeks...

>> No.9100363

I would love a tea IRC channel! Would you enforce that you can only talk about tea, or would you make it more of a like, talk about things while drinking your tea? Because I assume you can only talk about tea for so long.

People could talk about whatever they wanted, as long as it doesn't derail conversations in progress about tea. I'd think we would naturally gravitate towards the topic of Otaku Culture, although I might be able to bring in some other other turbonerds of a relatively normalfaggian stripe in for some variety.

I'll make a channel tomorrow afternoon, then.

I would really love it if you were to make a tea channel on Rizen.
I've recently decided to take up tea brewing as a permanent hobby, and I'm on the lookout for these threads every time you make them.

I've actually been waiting for one of these threads.

I've been planning on ordering a tea-pot and some tea off yuuki cha for quite a while now, and I'm getting my pay-check tommorow, so I'm about to order in the next day or so.

I'm kind of excited, because I've only ever drank shit bagged tea.

If there was on green tea and oolong tea you would recommend from there right now, what would it be?

>> No.9102918

please make tea threads from time to time

>> No.9102921

I've never posted in a tea thread before, be gentle.

My Jasmine tea tastes to strong, I bought a tin in hopes I could recreate what I've had before, It says to just add 3 grams of tea and then pour in boiling water for a "perfect" cup. I'm only accustomed to drinking tea when I go to my local Vietnamese restaurant though, could that be why it tastes so strong to me?

I have created the channel #teahou on irc.rizon.net

I may still make tea threads occasionally, but generally, there doesn't seem to be enough activity. So if you're interested in tea, hopefully we can get some of the same good discussion going that we have had in the threads.

>>9102921

I know nothing of flavoured teas, sorry. What I would like to try sometime soon, however, is Vietnamese oolong.

Got my order yesterday. Makes for a delicious and easy to prepare liter of iced tea.

I'll go to that shop of the guy who married a chinese woman and imports tea, what should I get ?

I'm already planing to get some cups and a filter, because I'm not a gaiwan master yet.

>> No.9103515

Bought some Uchimaki Shincha a while back. It's good stuff, though the fancy tea house I bought it from is probably ripping me off.

I'm not sure if I'm doing it justice with putting it in a filter bag and steeping it for 90 seconds or so. Maybe my taste buds are defective.

>> No.9103569

Anybody know where I can get tea in Las Vegas besides teavana? I know I can buy tea online, but it would be nice if there was a local store so I didn't have to pay shipping and wait a week to get it.

That could describe dozens, if not hundreds of tea stores across at least three continents.

>>9103515

There are any numbers of reasons why your brew might not have come out great, but... what exactly is a filter bag?

I'm wondering if I should just make a new thread. Only one person has come to the IRC so far, and he wasn't even one of the posters in this thread.

>> No.9104763

>>9104752

Why would you make a new thread if this one is still up, and we can talk in this thread?

I'm still very interested in this, anyway, what's your personal favorite brewing times/temperatures for sencha, for first/second/third brew?

The first post is the one people seem to pay attention to the most, and we haven't had all that many visitors to the channel yet. I am guessing this is because people are missing it in the body of the thread since it's not listed in the OP.

>>9105032

Get an IRC client, fill out the necessary information at start-up, then type:

/server irc.rizon.net
/join #teahou

Does everyone drink the tea alone, or do you eat something with it? I like to eat shortbread cookies if I've got them. They're not too sweet and pretty mildly flavored.

There's a difference between coffee and tea, in terms of what you feel. Coffee feels a lot rougher.

Yes. If it's made with Camellia Sinesis, it's tea. I like Chai too whenever I go to an Indian restaurant.

>>9126468

It looks fine to me. How it tastes is the real question.

>>9127552

There are a lot of different factors that can affect the colour of tea. The biggest factors I know of are water temperature and mineral composition of the water. You can try an experiment if you like, and you have the appropriate waters available: try brewing tea the exact same way with soft water and hard water. You'll find that the soft water brew is lighter, greener and clearer, and the hard water brew will be darker, browner and murky.

>>9127834

Glad we could help.

>>9130639

Theanine moderates the body's response to caffeine. This is where the myth of white tea having less caffeine comes from... it has the same amount of caffeine, but you don't feel a sudden 'jolt' like you do with coffee. Coffee, of course, does not have theanine.
