It's not just otaku. Women have been associated with cats in the west too as well as the west pretty much inventing cat girls to begin with. I had 2 cats once, a male and a female. The female had kittens and the male ate them. I was so disgusted by such behavior that I gave them both away.

I am going to have to guess that the same would be true of girls with these traits. I've had both cats and dogs all my life and will take a dog anyday.

When you have a dog there's something special, something that dates back farther than recorded history, and the dog understands that. You're more than just master and pet, you're good friends. It isn't unusual for a dog to put his life in danger to save his master, if you leave a dog alone for too long they'll become depressed. Once you return they'll be the happiest they've ever been in their life, only to repeat the process tomorrow. It's a powerful bond.

Cats on the other hand are soft and don't require as much attention but basically treat you like a maid. Sure they'll rub up against you to thank you for food but that's it. They don't give two shits about you just as long as you keep the grub coming. Hell cats can be cheating on their owners with other households, the same cat can whore itself out all over a neighborhood for food and affection.

Cats are popular because small size and easier to care for, might as well get fish. If you want something more like a good friend than a pet a dog is the way to go.
