I've been to PAX East a couple of times. For some reason video game centric cons seem to have less of the whole femanon attention whore cosplayer thing going on.

/jp/ level e-autist here. I go alone to AX every year and I don't really talk to anyone. Then again I am quite old and strange looking. But here's what I think.

The good:
1) You can meet your favorite Japanese anime and videogame directors/artists/VAs/etc at these.
2) The big ones usually have cool concerts by professional musicians who do anime or game music.
3) Some panels are actually quite interesting (like the anime studio ones or videogame company ones).
4) Seeing people cosplay is actually pretty cool. People do tons of popular and obscure stuff.

The bad:
1) Lots of underaged kids.
2) Dealer halls are basically obsolete now thanks to glorious Amiami.
3) Tends to be way overcrowded.
4) There will always be big "featured events" that you don't give a rat's ass about (meet Danny Choo and the English dub cast of Madoka!)

Worth a visit for a least one day though IMO.

Absolutely awful. I went to some with my father when very young and I thought they were great, however, I went back 4 years ago and hated every minute of it. I felt like a freak among freaks (that is to say, I felt like a normalfag because I wasn't dressed stupidly or handing out "free glomps xD").

Also very over priced. Long queue, expensive entry fee, expensive products and no significant people worth meeting. And fat rolls spilling out of skimpy costumes, and everyone drooling all over each other.

I guess it might be a little different in the US, though.

When I go to cons, I'm usually hanging out at the artist alley or with friends. I also buy a bit from the dealer's hall that you can't find online, like artbooks or doujins. There are also a few cosplayers with interesting or well made costumes I take pictures of.

I also actually like being in a setting I can openly fawn over cute artwork or figures or talk openly about my eroge without seeming weird. I also don't mind all the "consluts" and weeaboos and whatnot, I don't even really notice them and if I do, I don't get angry or anything, I just shrug it off. I never really understood why people care others are having sex, are fat, or say stupid things I'm in my own little world even as I wander halls cramped full of people.

I go to England's MCM. There's a lot of cosplayers outside but as MCM is half anime, half games, wrestling and other shit the cosplays are either anime related or game related.

Last year I went, there were so many Okabes, some people just don't put in effort...
Merchandise is shit, about 50% of the total merchandise is unofficial stuff, like you'll have stalls where it's full of fake Gift imitation plushies of Naruto and Bleach.
For the other 50%, you have have a mix of either official, but overpriced merchandise (gundam models and figurines going for double their normal price), tons of fakes (fake figurines, nendoroids, anything nendoroid related (so nendoroid petit and such).
About 10% might be decent merchandise.

Blakeney Chapel is a ruined building on the Norfolk coast of England. Despite its name, it is in the parish of Cley next the Sea, not the adjoining village of Blakeney, and was probably not a chapel.
