where is gensokyo

>> No.9019710 [DELETED]

It's that tiny archipelago on the western edge of china about 700 years ago.

>> No.9019712

Dumbass, Gensokyo is a world next to ours. If it was in our world, I'd be living it up with Remilia and Cirno by now.

according to canon, isn't Gensokyo within Japan, but separated by a magical barrier so that one cannot physically venture in?

I'm assuming this barrier somehow warps geography and cartography so that when mapping Japan, the longitudes and latitudes curve around the outside of Gensokyo, and that in reality there is an illusion that one is going straight through the missing latitudes and longitudes.

>>9019853
Isn't gensokyo somewhere near Aokigahara? If I recall correctly, in one of the Maribel-Renko CD's one of the stories is about them going there to get to the Hakurei shrine.

Puts the whole portal to gensokyo thing in perspective.

>> No.9019890

>>9019878
Are you >implying grimdark? Because Gensokyo is grimdark enough already.

I remember the other side of the border being some abandoned shrine in the mountains somewhere, but I don't think it specified where.

>> No.9019892

>>9019878
so the portal is an Aokigahara?

does that mean that all the people who have committed suicide on /jp/ have end up doing so in vain?

I vaguely remember a panel in SaBND where it showed the outside world part of the border. There was a road with cars. Are there any near Aokigahara?

Someone post the panel I mean. I know one of you will have it readily cropped.

>> No.9019958

Gensokyo actually has a well defined real world location. There's a mountain range to the east of lake Suwa that is the confirmed location of the Youkai mountain.

The source is "Cage in a Lunatic Runagate", the Mokou chapter, where she names the youkai mountain as Mt. Yatsugatake. The version of the mountain inside the border has been restored to it's full "taller than Mt. Fuji" size, which means that whole mountain range you currently see is one large mountain inside the border.

That also means the only possible location for the human village would be overlapping an already existing village. This would explain why Rinnosuke was able to "see" the outside world from within his shop in that one chapter of CoLA.

I haven't done any further research in the area, but the only lake that could possibly be large enough to match the description of the misty lake in PMiSS is lake Suwa itself. Except that characters in-universe mention lake Suwa as if it is a separate entity.

What we can extrapolate from this is that either the inside of Gensokyo is VASTLY different from the outside (already semi confirmed by the youkai mountain), or we're working with a fictional version of japan (which doesn't seem likely with all the references made thus far).

Hope someone found this interesting.
