Do you not know anything about the history of where you are?

4chan stemmed from the early experimental text boards that shot up, such as world2ch, 4-ch, world4ch and so on and so forth. These sites predate 4chan by many many years.

After people like Shii and 0037 poked around the code and released their own projects, they soon realized no one gives much thought to text boards in the west (they are bigger in Japan since most internet users there are on mobile devices). So you then had people like moot and Kirtainer whom came from SA and started hacking together imageboard software. From that grew iichan, Wakachan, 4chan, 7chan and a couple other pioneering sites that grew to be way more popular.

world2ch, yes, but moot wasn't aware about it until later.
4-ch was created after (and in response to) 4chan, around 2004.
world4ch was created by moot around the same time as 4-ch.

No they didn't. 0037 didn't do anything. Shii wrote Shiichan. Most of 4chan proper was worked on by thatdog/coda/etc.

You mean "downloaded Futaba's readily available source code linked on their home page and translated it into English".
Kirtaner made 420chan later, and it was a "4chan spin off" from the start.

I know people say slower boards are better and most of us will agree this is the case for boards like /jp/, but it doesn't always work.
For example, take /lounge/. It has five active posters:
* SFBE (various aliases)
* RedCream
* Archduke (various aliases)
* L33tUK
* (one) Anonymous

I lurk there, and obviously it's a complete shithole. It's pure, unadulterated shit, completely unspoiled by any sort of quality posting. In a way it's kind of like art, but it's clear that having more users would actually improve the place.

- stupid sites that try to do something new. 420chan was okay until it started this "portal" thing it has now.

I don't even like 4chan that much anymore, I keep coming back in hopes of seeing something interesting, but I never do. The only stuff I reply to is when an OP makes me reply with a stupid question or a troll post.

In other words, I get trolled. I'm a troll masochist. I come to 4chan to get trolled, basically. It's a tough reality to face but it's true, probably for a lot of people too.

Just searching the archive is good enough for me, I can't respond to trolls and get to filter the uninteresting posts.

Imageboards are for image discussion and showing things with images. Text boards are for plain discussion.

Because imageboards attract a lot of "questionable" content (and also because most web owners don't want a fuckton of images stored on their server) they normally move faster.

Text is just text, so people are forced to take part in actual discussion and listen to one another a bit more.

I just don't see why people can't use both.

I've managed to find http://nevada.natural20.net/, which according to an old post on 4-ch, shii.org/nevada/ once redirected to, though that site is hosted by someone claiming to be someone who isn't shii. Is this just a copy of Shii's old Nevada pages? I found this image in the Nevada pics section, which I think was done by Shii.
