Why does it seem like everyone on /jp/ has a shit computer?

You guys use them all day, why not spend some money on it?

>> No.9003990

Most of /jp/ is still using the laptop their parents got them in high school because they are now unemployed.

I think those of us who are well employed do spend on our computers.

I have a shitty computer because I don't know how computers work. I have the same desktop I bought 6 years ago. I'd love to be one of those people who built their own computer, because I have enough money to do it, I just don't know how. Generally when I ask people about computers they just laugh at me. Apparently because I use it regularly, I'm supposed to know the ins and outs of technology and be able to hack the pentagon.

I mean, I could just google "how build computer", but I wouldn't really know what I was doing, I'd just be doing what a guide said to do. The first time my computer would have a problem, I'd be out of luck.

Doesn't help my confidence that when I was younger, I simply opened the side of my computer to look in it, and then closed it back up... and it stopped working.

Unless you googled for the shittiest building guide on the internet, they would explain what parts you need as well as why you need them and solutions to common problems new builders run into.

As for why your PC stopped working, you either forgot to touch the metal casing and shocked it or you did something dumb like forgetting to flip the PSU's on switch back on.

I'm running a three-year-old computer that was low-end back then. AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core at 2.3GHz, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and an ATI Radeon 4350 HD.

It struggles to play most non-doujin games released after 2009, even on the lowest settings. It plays Touhou, Minecraft, LoL and WC3, though, and it has no problem with anime. So, so long as my computer can play those games, and anime, there's no reason to upgrade.

I pirate games for my PS3 and Xbox, and while I understand that PC gaming is superior in every way (save for the lack of JRPGs on PCs), I can save money to spend on figures by using a crappy computer.

I did have a literally max-end computer for a while, though. For about 2 months, I played every game on maximum settings, 24/7.

Basically, I don't need a more powerful computer, and I save a whopping 10 dollars a month or so on electricity costs, because of the 300w PSU. Take into account that to keep a mid-range computer mid-range, you'd have to spend around 200 dollars a year, that makes it like 320 dollars a year in total it'd cost to have a mid-range computer. That's 320 dollars I could spend on sex pillows, or Ona Holes, or figures to hot-glue!

It's pretty dated by today's standards, but the most "demanding" things I do are read VN's, play Touhou and doujin games and some programming. The only things I need now are more HDDs to store stuff. Going to replace that 6 year old 250GB soon with another 2TB Hitachi.

I spent all of my slowly-acquired NEET money ($900~) on a nice computer last year

all I play is MAME

I don't need much to play 1080p. The few games that I play don't require a high end graphics card or processor. Also I'm poor as shit and I'd have to save up for months to buy a high end rig. I'd much rather spend it on merchandise or food

It's more than enough for me, because I don't usually archive anime and there aren't many games in here.

I am employed and still do this. I have to use an external keyboard to type because the keyboard is out and fucking Acer wouldn't warranty it.

I'm just too tired to scrap myself out of my chair to go buy a new one. And why should I get a new one? This one works just fine. I've never had framerate problems with VNs, Touhou, emulators for old consoles, or other little games. I'm not interested in bluray anime rips decoded in the GPU either. Even Opera can read this HTML5 shit passably, and I don't tend to keep 50+ tabs of /b/ open with 5 second autoupdate, that's not a problem either.

I can easily see 3 more years out of this girl. Why she does finally give out, I will give her a proper burial before replacing her.

I don't even need to care about 720p or 1080p stuff because my Internet connection only gets to a maximum of 100 kB/s, so they would take forever to download.
