Remember when shitposters actually used to get banned instead of just having their posts deleted, thus multiplying the shitposting?

>> No.8979428

I've been saying this for years, but the janitor needs to stop clearing out 5-10 pages of /jp/ and such. All it does is invite more spam (because now they want to refill the lost pages) and make you look as e-autistic as the spammers you're trying to fight against.

Who gives a shit. It works on the majority of posters because most American ISPs use MER, and spoofing your MAC address is awkward (I don't care if you can do it in a leet two-second way, most people can't).

Still better than just deleting posts. If anything, that encourages shitposting and discourages users dealing with trolls properly (i.e. ignoring them instead of crying out "MEIDO!" when something they like isn't deleted).

/jp/ doesn't need deletion, /jp/ doesn't even need that much moderation. It's a slow as fuck board. What does removing 5 pages accomplish? Absolutely nothing.

All the (new) janitor has to do is delete NSFW/cocks/blogs/socs threads, in other words, blatant off topic content. Who cares about which 2hu would you fuck, or other textless threads? Nobody gives a shit. People know how to ignore shit they don't like, but you can't "unignore" 5 pages deleted by the neo spergcommander.

The limits should be adjusted. You don't need to post every 30 seconds, and I know some people do. And you should be able to make two threads per day, tops. Those threads getting deleted shouldn't reset your limit.

Also the age/sage limits are backwards. It would make more sense for sage to be every 30 seconds (or 2 minutes or something for /jp/) and age to be every 60 seconds (or 4 minutes or something).

Ah, good old meta.
The issue with not deleting the full 5 pages worth of shitposting is that every thread you leave will get inevitably a butthurt necrobump from some kid that is trying to point out how moderation is unfair and they get singled out.
Why is this thread deleted while leaving this 2hu fuk thread? Why does a thread get a free pass for having a touhou image? Why was this blog thread deleted when it's just NEET/depression discussion, just like the other 8 threads over the board.

The point is that it's understandable to see a full wipe when you're trying to keep an image of consistency. That it encourages spammers too is a known truth. Just by being active janitors are escalating a spam war with the kids while leaving us in the cross fire.

Having a dedicated native mod could help things a bit, but not that much. It's obvious that the handful of shitposters currently active are ban evading all the time and there's little the current tools can do to help. But it would be a better action than useless deletions.

Anyway, same as always. Nothing has really changed since I left except for the spam flavor.

>> No.8979570

> Seriously, is it really so hard to ban the tripcode this particular idiot uses?

I don't see why this so rarely happens. I mean, there's a system in place already. Why not use it? Can only admins use it? Is there a lengthy process where mods have to apply for a tripcode ban or something?

The mods generally take it easy in IRC, so I doubt they're swamped with requests. It would be nice to take things a little more seriously. For example, the janitor could have went on /j/ or whatever and said, "Hey, this guy is spamming Nocturnes. Can you autoban this phrase?" Seems like a worthy enough reason, so the mods/moot ban it. Spam diminishes, janitor keeps warning about new workarounds.

even IF the janitor succeeded in getting rid of all "off topic" threads (whatever that means.. i think this board is otaku culture.. whatever can be considered otaku culture should be fine to stay and thats BROAD) people would complain about idol threads.. then tea threads.. then touhou image dump threads forever.. there is a LOUD MINORITY ofe posters who just cannot ignore threads that they dont like and the admin team needs to ignore them because they are crazy

By allowing one gimmick poster that contributes nothing, you breed an environment where such behavior is accepted and it slowly becomes the norm. You liking it or not, posting pictures of milky homes, in a way that it adopts a pattern that is associated with your tripcode, is against the rules, because it is indirectly related to roleplaying. Look, Zunbar, I don't hate her, I think I've said this yesterday, but if she ends up getting banned, we won't be able to complain. Anime is off-topic for /jp/ (I'll grant a few exceptions, like VN anime adaptations). This has been the case since it was created (this is *why* it was created). Yet you frequently discuss this season's shonen anime that has no relation to /jp/. You or Sion or whoever liking a show does not mean /jp/ likes that show, or that it becomes on-topic material. I know that you know this, I just don't understand why you are being so obtuse about it.

"Take it easy" becomes a platitude when you use it to justify shitposting. People getting sick of "wch 2hu fk" or avatarfags or whatever isn't them "not taking it easy", it's normal behavior. You can look at any community dating back to Usenet (or even real world communities) and there are rules and customs and guidelines for this reason.

Nobody is arguing that we have to be super strict and ban everyone or whatever, we're arguing that the people who are unquestionably rule-breaking and making /jp/ a worse place should be stopped.

I always thought that leaving some anime would be fine. There's been decent discussions over old series or what anime are you catching in a season. The issue was never that it was anime, but that it was spammed. Textless screencaps everywhere, no discussion, no good reason to leave them. Then again policies have changed too much.
I still can't forgive that they're deleting/banning for NSFW with a spoiler tag now.

>>8979749

I was tempted to write an extension that allows "community" pseudo-deletion, but I thought it might be dumb and like thread voting or never used (and I think someone made something similar already).

Some level-headed people could start an IRC group where they mass report rule breaking. Lay down some guidelines that it doesn't apply to grey area stuff, only things like NSFW content, spamming, ban evaders, etc. A bot could announce rule breaking posts, then everyone in the channel reports them both on 4chan and to mods in IRC. Sadly, people *don't* use the report system as often as they should; a lot of people I've spoken to leave it to other people.
The downside to this idea is that level-headed people aren't this autistic.

If you want to stick with anonymous boards, try 4-ch or iiChan or something. But enjoy your six posts a month.

If you want something more active, go to one of the "LOOK MOM I MADE AN IMAGEBOARD!!!" 4chan knock-offs like 7chan or Tohno-chan. They're a lot more /a/-/b/ in nature, though.

You know very well it's not just the circlejerk and off-board spammers who shitpost. I'm pretty sure you would delete an Aikido thread because it's "shitposting and off-topic".

Come on, AoC. You know what spam is.

You might consider them shitposting, since that term is pretty subjective anyway, but the Japanese bird threads aren't spam.

Off-topic? Yes.
Against board rules? Perhaps.

But they're not trying to advertise or sell anything and there aren't enough of them to be considered spam.

The only solution to fix 4chan would be to restore /b/ to Anime/Random and that's not possible.

"stupid threads" is the most disney complaint I've seen yet ITT. We're both even posting in one.

And 2D things aren't "off-topic" when we've been talking about them for 4-5 years now.

Read the page. Most users don't know how to clear their window.name cache, Flash cookies, local storage, etc. Again, this isn't a perfect solution. It would just keep a lot of ban evaders out.

Try the example yourself. Without reinstalling your browser or whatever, set and try to get rid of the evercookie.

See? You don't know how to find it funny nor how to ignore threads you don't like. Why should the standard for deletion come from posters like you?

We will just become a board with 3 different on-topic threads, and the rest will be filled by random dumb Touhou threads.

JBCS is not spam now, but it sure was when I had to deal with it. Automated, constant and forced. Now that it's down to once every few days it's not that bad.

>>8979951
You see, for all the claims that I was too strict I always disagreed with letting the board be strictly about the small topic pool we have. Some of the most interesting stuff comes when discussion goes off the rails and people start posting stuff just for fun and not strictly discussion/contribution. The problem is when such off-topic dominates the board, which is what I've been trying to say. Things are good in moderation, but we don't really need "my parents are telling me to get a job, what do?"
