Yeah, knowing minute details is great, but you're focusing on them at the expense of the bigger picture. What's obvious you ask? That hat and colour palette are a dead giveaway. (My apologies if you're colourblind.) I'd argue those two make a much stronger case than the counter-argument "that star is the wrong colour". The dragon is a generic symbol associated with China. Having it there doesn't make it anti-communist by any means, and as someone stated earlier in the thread, Communists also used Traditional characters at some point.

You're accusing other people of ignorance, but frankly, man, you're just being a fucking retard.

Okay, just to make sure we're on the same page: are you trying to imply that ZUN took this into account for his character design and very deliberately added these elements to the character so that despite her very clearly Communist-inspired appearance, it would serve as proof that the design in fact wasn't inspired by the Red Guard uniform? So despite some other _very iconic_ Chinese fashions, he happened to stumble upon this one BUT IT IS DEFINITELY IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE COMMUNIST LOOK, OKAY GUISE???

Please elucidate your position for me. I just don't understand how despite some otherwise very convincing proof, you still get hung up on these details and insist there's nothing even remotely Communist there.

I am an expert in this topic.

In Mainland China media, Hong Kong media and Taiwan media, there are a set of stereotypes for each subset of Chinese.

Northern Mainlanders: Aggressive, hot-blooded, talks very loudly, has slit eyes, swears all the time, alcoholic, beats their wives. Communist. Tall and manly. Eats wheat products, such as bread buns.

Southern Mainlanders: Cool-headed, sensible, thinks emotionally. Good at doing business. Short and fat. Larger, rounder eyes. Eats rice products. Eats "anything with four legs except tables, anything that flies except aeroplanes, anything that swims apart from submarines".

Taiwanese: Males talk quite femininely (e.g. "你想怎样~?") and are very quiet. Are very passive.

Hong Kongers: Very westernized, likes to show off their English. Myopic, and wears designer glasses. Very quiet talker, but sometimes confronting. Looks down on mainlanders. Good at doing business. Says "ah" all the time ("Hello ah, my name Tony ah, ngo dei gau lei zi ah?").

Singaporean Chinese: Chinese that have really shitty Chinese language skills. Rude and confronting towards others. Somewhat westernized.

>> No.8976400

>>8976360
It is easy to know where they come from.
Mainlanders speak with their tongue twisted all the time.
I hongkie cant speak mandarin so if you hear them speak with canto it is guarantee that they are hongkie.
Taiwanese speak proper mandarin and singaporean and malaysian just speak broken chinese.
For malaysian it is very obvious if you can hear them mix cantonese and english. Singaporean cant speak cantonese. Of course there are either dialect that I forgot to mention but if you are chinese you should know where hakka, teochew, hokkien come from most of the time.

>> No.8976409

>>8976360
continued:

Shanghainese: Gold diggers and prostitutes. Looks down on other Chinese, worships westerners.

Beijingers: Communist Party officials wearing red hats. Rich and corrupt; young people are "princelings".

Mongols: Horseback riders, very strong wrestlers.

Tibetans: Very good at throat-singing, very good and healthy lungs that can bellow out a loud voice. Passive and peaceful. Are either monks, farmers or traders.

Uyghurs: Rape, murder, arson, etc. Kind of like Muslims in Europe.

Koreans: They invented everything. "Oppa~~". Gets angry at the smallest of political incidents. Makes popular music and films.

Japanese: Polite, clean. "Honne and Tatamae". Peaceful societal structure. Denies historical atrocities.

from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_and_southern_China#Stereotypes

>Northerner: Is taller and larger in stature[5][6] Has smaller eyes with single eyelids Has lighter, fairer skin color[5] Speaks Mandarin with a northern accent Eats more noodles, dumplings and wheat-based foods[6] (rather than rice-based food)
>Southerner: Is slightly shorter and smaller in stature[5][6] Has higher frequency of double eyelids[8] Has slightly darker, tanner skin color[5] Speaks Mandarin with a southern accent and/or a southern variety of Chinese such as Yue (Cantonese), Wu, Hakka, Xiang, Min or Gan Eats more rice-based foods (rather than wheat-based food)

In Dongbei, whence the Manchus came, the men do like their liquor.
While effusive with their friendship, with their enmity they’re quicker
Though they’re honest and straightforward, at the slightest provocation
They’ll show why they’ve been slandered as the Klingons of this nation.

The leggy Dongbei ladies for their beauty are renowned,
(I attest that in my travels, few more fetching have I found.)
But they suffer from one drawback, and it’s very sad to tell—
When they open up their mouths to speak, they break that magic spell.

The stalwart Shandong people grow as hearty as their scallions
On their noodle-heavy diet they’ve been bred as strong as stallions.
They’re known for dogged loyalty; they’re known as trusty folks,
But a bit slow on the uptake—thus, the butt of many jokes.

...

They say that Henan people are a sly and cunning lot.
But my ancestors are from there—proving some, at least, are not.
My co-provincials countrywide are blamed for every ill,
While provinces that suck as bad get let off easy still.

The Shanghainese are philistines, and this they’ll gladly own:
Commercial instincts permeate them to the very bone.
Their pride in Shanghai’s petit bourgeois ethos is immense
But what they lack in culture, they make up in common sense.

...

Beiingers love to gab, and though they’re lazy and they’re slow,
There’s nothing about politics that they aren’t apt to know.
They may complain a lot about the traffic and the air
But scratch beneath the cynicism and you’ll find they care.

KMT Taiwanese (the dogs that ran away) and even South Korean butthurt are perfectly understandable. Without American support, they are nothing and wouldn't last a week with the 1300+ cruise missiles aimed at Taiwan or China favouring an NK 'united' Korea. Even with American support, they are nothing but puppets. Now the US is dragging its heels on Taiwan because it's going broke and the Chinese military is becoming more capable. It certainly won't be the first time the US tosses away a previous 'ally' like a used condom with the changing times though.
tl;dr: their butthurt is understandable given that they know they wouldn't be able to stand by themselves as a true sovereign nation without uncle Sam.

Regardless, if the existence of one's so-called independent country is a temporary illusion only possible from being 'useful' to someone else, it's a hefty blow to one's pride (if they can have any at all) and other nationalist sentiments. Butthurt ensues and the tears are delicious.

Whoops, seems like I haven’t explained this one yet — sorry /jp/!
This song is called 台灣好 Taiwan Hao, it’s a nationalist Chinese song written in Taiwan (of course after the Mainland–Taiwan split).
It praises Taiwan and how cool it is, but it is not a Taiwanese nationalist song, as it’s also about the desire to reclaim and liberate the mainland.

Of course, nowadays that seems very much unlikely.

OP earlier posted:
* The PRC anthem
* An unofficial ROC anthem from before the establishment of the PRC
* A patriotic song from the second Sino-Japanese war referencing the Mukden incident

I don’t know why he is doing it.

No, I’m not OP. I don’t know what drives him, he seems to just post Chinese nationalist songs (be they ROC or PRC) and then abandons the thread.

>Can you clarify?
A *Taiwanese* nationalist would be someone who wants to get rid of the ROC in favour of a fully independent Taiwan outside of the “China” context. See the DPP party.
A Taiwanese nationalist (so not a Chinese nationalist from/in Taiwan) does not identify as Chinese and wants the ROC to officially become Taiwan and drop the claims on the mainland.
A KMT-supporting Chinese nationalist in/from Taiwan would (at least theoretically) support the reclaiming of the Mainland, identifies as Chinese and sees the ROC as the legitimate ruler over both mainland China and Taiwan.

Slightly off-topic, but since this is pretty much a China thread: Why the fuck are there so many weeaboos on the Chinese Wikipedia? Currently Katawa Shoujo is on the front page, under the "Did you know?" section. It's as if they don't remember World War II anymore.

>> No.8993842

China has a huge population. A huge population of children growing up with Japanese animation. Even if only a relatively small number of those grow up to be weeaboos, that’ll still be a big number in absolute terms.
Also China has loads of men who will never find a wife due to the distorted gender ratio. Better for them to embrace 2D and give up on finding a wife than for them to become angry and frustrated. Having a huge population of angry frustrated men who can’t find a wife spells trouble, so it’s for the best if a good chunk of them become weeaboo nerds without 3D interest.

Also: Taiwan is weeaboo central. A lot of those articles are probably written by Taiwanese.

The state controls television broadcasting, and most children in China don't learn about ways to get around the Great Firewall until later.
So as you said, most Chinese weeaboos on Wikipedia are most likely Taiwanese.
