Single issues cost about 2/3 of the price of a manga weekly, and they only ever come out every month.

I'm trying not to be so contentious about this, but there are just some finer points about Western comics that grate me.

The Power Pack crosses over a bit, and has plenty of it's own cuteness. There's a famous issue where X23 and vampire Jubilee pal around, which showcases how moe X23 is. Also, Runaways has some cute-heavy runs, especially once it gets two lolis instead of one. As the saying goes, every issue of every comic is someone's first, so you can start anywhere in principle by reading the prologue.

Nope, I usually downloaded them. I think the only comics I bought were the standalone "classics" like V For Vendetta and Watchmen, or compilations of a few characters/series like 52.

My problem is that, despite not being an avid comic reader, there's way too much stuff. Everything that can happen has happened, so I can't really care any more. Even the character studies are dull, and when a writer actually does something it's usually frustrating (like when they killed off The Question).

Maybe I'll be happy with the reboot, but there's already a lot of stuff to read. I don't see why I'd choose it over some classic manga series or whatever.

I rarely have the patience to read manga anymore. These days, it's either anime or eroge.

Anime is quite different from Western cartoons and you know it. Not making a value judgement there, they're just different. I like Family Guy and Futurama as much as the next person, but there's no Western animated equivalent to, say, Haibane Renmei, or Ano Hana, or even Madoka as far as I've ever seen.

As far as eroge, there's nothing in the West that even compares.

I collect lots of older comics (mostly got tons of The Hulk from the 60's and 70's) but /co/ sucks ass for the most part. Also I still have no idea what the heck Homestuck is and such.

They do take it way easier than /a/ or /v/ though. Very little e-autism arguments about tastes in things and such there (sorta like /jp/).

If that is your definition of manga, all western comics are superheroes and follow the same generic style. Tezuka is the father of generic anime style, and Naoki Urusawa simply makes stories about grungy worlds where not everyone needs to be pretty and ideally proportioned.

Have you read any Tezuka? It's as far removed from modern manga as golden age superheroes are from modern ones. His style is tight. Every panel advances the plot, both with action and dialog.
