/jp/ - Otaku Culture

View post

[SPOILER] No.8906444[SPOILER]  [Reply] [Original]

Now we all say that /jp/ is filled with autistic children, but is this really true?

Yes. Let me explain why, your board is called "/jp/ - Otaku Culture".

The Japanese word for autism is "自閉症". This word is broken down into 3 kanji.

Kanji:
自: oneself
閉: closed, shut
症: symptoms, illness

So therefor any Otaku or Hikikomori is actually the direct meaning of an autistic person.

It's not my fault I'm autistic.

Huh, I didn't know that breaking a compound into its component kanji gave the "direct meaning" of that compound. So the direct meaning if 馬鹿 is actually horse-deer. Interesting...

The best kanji is 磁, magnet. Left side is 石, stone, right side looks like two lots of 玄, mysterious. So a magnet is a double-sided mystery stone.
>magnets man...

>> No.8906539

I always thought of it as electric waves next to the stone that's like all magnetic.

Yeah, that makes sense. That would probably make me think of 石 + 電 though

石: stone

Eh, I am aware that with ones like that there is usually some obscure kanji as part of it, but it looks close enough to two 玄s to me. Two of the bottom part, and two strokes on the top instead of one. I never learned 茲, it isn't that common, is it?

茲 looks more like 艹 + 2 x 幺 (short thread radical) anyway rather than 艹 + 2 x 玄

It was originally "Japan/General" because it was for general Japanese media that didn't fit into /a/. Then people thought it was about the country and made stupid /trv/ or /int/ threads. So moot changed it to "Japanese Culture" but that was too broad and the exact same thing happened. Then he settled on "Otaku Culture" which makes more sense. Though it's not really about the culture of otakus, so I don't get it.

We should combine the names and make this Otaku/General. That has a nice ring to it.
