Post your IP if you are hosting followed by world location (with continent and area is ok, I.E Western europe) and your own "tier" if you feel like to.

About the game:
(shamelessly copied from the wiki)
Touhou Hisoutensoku is the third fighting game in the Touhou Project and like its predecessors, Immaterial and Missing Power and Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, Touhou Hisoutensoku is a collaboration between ZUN and Twilight Frontier. Due to that collaboration, its art was drawn by Alphes and the music was composed by U2 Akiyama, both from Twilight Frontier.

Download link:

Hisoutensoku + 1.10 patch + english patch:
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6424899/Touhou_Hisoutensoku_12.3___1.10___English_Patch

For playing online it's recommended to have the latest version, 1.10a which you can find the patches for here:

http://hisouten.koumakan.jp/

SWR + English patch:
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6512402/Touhou_10.5_Scarlet_Weather_Rhapsody___ENG

Optionally there is also a Voice mod found here:
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Voice_Mod_for_SWR_and_Hisoutensoku

Before playing online please close any process that uses bandwith to avoid lag, also try to play with people close to your area if possible.

Also vote on this if you want.

>> No.8894819

None that would be useful, beyond the simplest of basics, sadly. I haven't played Remilia since I was first practicing this game

Best I can say is that your crossups are something to be feared. Abuse that 6D 2A for all it's worth. It's really awkward fighting her as Alice because she's so good at slipping around Alice's effective melee range

Good games, Johan. To be honest, it really annoys me that you switch characters every match. I really don't get to learn why I lose so much

It also helps that you're way better than me and my assfrustration is causing me to fuck up on the simplest of combos

I don't suppose you have any tips? A 30% winrate is quite unseemly of /jp/'s resident Alice player

Also, does anyone know why Tensokukan wouldn't be recording my games? I have the latest version of English edition UNL and I can't get this darn thing working

I switch so much to learn your playing style faster and i also play all chars, so after some matches i was able to counter most of your game and defeat you without much effort. Its quite simple so dont relay only on corner and pressure, you need to learn to fight in mid too, so you dont have to run all day.

Try more crossup combos instead of only counters because after a while its turns easy to block and punish.

Check your tenco version if you are using 1.10a

>Try more crossup combos instead of only counters because after a while its turns easy to block and punish.

Erg. Crossups on Alice. Well, I guess it's worth a shot, but to be honest they scare the shit out of me because her melee is so garbage. It's punishable, she will only realistically be able to hit down, and it requires absurdly precise spacing

I'll have to start trying to incorporate more crossups, I guess. Her attacks are too punishable to play the guessing game with counters forever

>> No.8895683

>>8895648
>her melee is so garbage. It's punishable
She has the best zoning melee what are you talking about? a HJ9 j2A will stop anything charging at you 99% of the time and it's not punishable.

>> No.8895742

>>8895683

Yes, if a stupid opponent does nothing but charge you head on, her melee is good. If, on the other hand, they use crossups, danmaku cover, or simple fakeouts into more danmaku, you will quickly realize how much that delay on a missed 6A hurts her

I'll have to incorporate hj9 j2A into my game more. Usually I use hj7 j2A, and all it's good for is countering people dashing at you who don't decide to smash her with their own hj melee

>> No.8895763

>>8895742
Yeah but also alice 66A is one of the fastest moves in the game. overall you should use only 6 melee attacks mainly.
5A, f5A j2A j8A 66A 2A

>> No.8895801

>>8895763

Why is 3A not on your list? It's her opener for like half her combos. Its main weakness is that it tries to fool you into thinking it's good for anti-air, but as soon as you realize that it's horrible for that and should only be used with 2A and punishing a bad crossup from an enemy, it's actually a pretty useful move

I'd sell my left testicle for it to just come out faster, though. I swear I see my life flashing before my eyes every time an enemy just goes soaring over it

Also, are you sure 66A is actually, like, good? Because I swear it seems to be punishable on block and it loses to most other melee anyway. Maybe I'm just spacing it wrong or it's delay talking or something, but it always seems way too risky to use

Honestly I can't even begin to imagine where you get this idea.

Her spell cards aren't the best, to be sure, but they definitely have their uses. Momentum gain, long-range punish, a reversal (that apparently doesn't fucking reverse bullets, but I digress), and faceroll 66B hitconfirms for -everything-.

Well, since I use both, I can help you a bit here.
Marisa play is based on the pressure, her blockstring are pretty good and one of her most important attributes is her guardcrush thanks to A3 and A6. Also her long hitstun danmaku can help quite a bit on keeping your momentum.
Patchouli on other side is to be played with calm and patience, more aligned to punishing wrong moves than pressuring your opponent, though her danmaku is arguably the best in the game, she lacks physical attack, thus, it's necessary to maintain a good zoning. I would say they are equal, though it's much easier to play Patchy for a noob due to obvious reason like 5C.

>> No.8899425

>>8899361
Patchy is great in neutral position and at staying out of range but if you fuck up once it's hard for her to get out again.
Her pressure is nothing to fear up close because of her shitty normals but if you manage to keep your opponent down with some wakeup shenanigans she can crush your orbs in a second. Never block a charged 4B up close.

Thanks for the games, Ganondorf. My Tensokukan is finally working! It turns out I was using a wrong version or something. I'm glad it's finally fixed

If I may give some advice, you are far too predictably aggressive. I understand that Meiling has a hard time getting in, but your pressure is weak enough that I can escape quite easily, and Meiling is very ill-equipped to fight a decent Alice, due to her multitude of ways of punishing simplistic dash-ins (6A, j2A, thousand spear dolls alt card, 66A and so forth)

In my opinion, your best bet is to practice your pressure much more. Good Meilings can easily make an Alice spend half the match fighting to get out of the corner due to her fairly good melee. Utilize more mindgames with her guard crush attacks

If it makes you feel better, Alice's 623BC are all absolutely worthless aside from Edo High-Explosive Pawn which is situationally useful and level 2 Volatile Doll which can occasionally be useful for shoring up Alice's pressure game assuming she can get them to stick, so it's not exactly an important aspect of her play

>Alice's 623BC are all worthless

Actually, it occurs to me that I should cut Doll Cremation a little slack. It's *sort* of useful for exchanging danmaku because of its firing arc and it comes out fast enough to usually be a good trade, but honestly, I can't think of many characters that Alice has such long-ranged troubles with that she'd want to squander cards on a semi-adequate ranged attack. I haven't really messed with it much, though, so who knows

Volatile Dolls still isn't actually a skill until you get it to level 2, though. It's just a misinput with a fancy animation

I've only recently discovered her default 214.

What do people mostly use for her 22B? I've been using Doll Activation or whatever her default is called. Though I play around with the bouncing one from time to time.

>> No.8905736

>>8905632

They each have their use, but in my opinion Doll Activation is simply the best of them. Alice has major problems with keeping her ideal spacing, and Doll Activation, when used well, heavily punishes enemies for careless dashes, provides tremendous amounts of bullet cover, and is absolutely excellent for zoning

Seeker Wire's problem is that it doesn't perform the job it's *trying* to do successfully. The bolt disappears on graze so it's countered with a simple 6D, and even if it lands it does little spirit damage. Add that to an awkward firing method that is often tricky to maximize and you have a pretty strict downgrade from Doll Activation. Honestly, if it were buffed to do .75-1 orbs per guard hit (iirc, now it's only .5), didn't disappear on graze, and there was a oldest to newest firing mechanism rather than just newest to oldest so the astute Alice player would have more options for firing it, it would be pretty good

SP Dolls would be fantastic if it didn't replace Doll Activation. Alice needs that move way too much to give it up for more guard crushing power that require a down payment of three orbs not counting C dolls

More Alice questions:

What's the benefit of leveling up Doll Placement and Doll Arrangement? Is it worth stacking them in your deck?

What about Returning Dolls in general?

Should I feel like a scrub for carrying Grimoires?

>> No.8908305

>>8908123

Levelling up Doll Placement increases the time the doll is out and the number of hits and damage, levelling up Doll Arrangement at least increases the damage and hits the dolls do, maybe even the amount of damage they sink not sure.
Returning Dolls is excellent for combo and denying space, it hitting on the way back too is a force to reckon with and on higher levels it does a second hit too which is excellent.
Grimoires can be good to carry, I don't play much Alice so I'm not sure how good they are on her but personally I at least use grimoires on Reimu and few other characters

>> No.8909488

>>8908123
In terms of the skills: >>8908305

For returning dolls, they're good as a combo finisher/zoning tool, but it really destroys your potential to pressure unless you're really good at setting up dolls to your opponents disadvantage. Personally, i find default the best among them, but its your preference really.

Regarding grimoires, this really depends on your style, but essentially speaking, you should really be 'need'ing grimoires. At higher levels of play, you need be able to conserve every bit of orb that you have, and will result in the loss of the offensive/neutral if you screw up because people can take advantage of that and force guard crushes/setups knowing that you lack orbs. It's more of something that gives you a larger margin of error.

IMO though, it's really a waste of deck space. I'd rather exchange that system card for something along the lines of another bomb or a soul torch, etc of that kind. It's just a lot more superior than trying to level grimoires several times to even get a significant amount orb recovery in.

>> No.8912161

>>8908123

I'm a little late to the party but I'm going to answer this anyway

>What's the benefit of leveling up Doll Placement and Doll Arrangement?

>>8909488 summarized my thoughts on Returning Dolls vs Doll Placement best. Returning Dolls is *nice*, but Alice has weak pressure as it is, so sabotaging it even more just for even *better* zoning and area denial isn't a good idea

Doll Placement doesn't really need to be leveled, either, which saves on deck space for more valuable things

Doll Arrangement is weird. As you level it, the dolls strike faster and become beefier, but it never really starts attacking fast enough to be worth it. You actually kind of *want* the delay because it makes for good oki. If you needed a fast attack, you'd just melee and not have to deal with graze

They make for really good bullet cover, though, even if they do end up being kind of awkward to use for an actual attack or a little too fast for oki. I'm starting to try to use them in a deck I use specifically to fight Patchouli. Results are mixed, but I'm going to try it for a while longer

>>8909488 is also mostly correct about Grimoires. Using them with the intent of gaining more spirit for more offense I don't feel is worth it because you give up momentum to use the card. Alice is a *very* momentum based character. Every doll you can throw before the enemy gets up and every bit of spacing that swings in your favor pays off way more than a little extra spirit

Defensively, it's just not worth using over an actual escape card like Reimu's or Iku's. Your tastes may differ, though

By the way, if you like this game a lot, don't be afraid to practice a lot vs bots. It won't help develop your mind games, but it'll help you form a "plan of attack" to some degree, and you'll be able to combo from muscle-memory

Actually, before I started posting in netplay threads, I purely trained myself in arcade mode for something like two or three months, on and off. The hardest part of playing online is learning to cope with lag and understanding the mind of your opponent, really

6B and 5B are useful if you're one step ahead of the mindgames in the corner pressure game due to its decent spirit damage (and, realistically, being one of the few ways you can mix up your close range corner pressure games), messing with people who rely on slow-to-cancel bullets, accounting for changes in an enemy's height in your bread and butter corner-bounce combos (for instance, if you corner-bounce them with a 6A, you should usually use 6B or 5B instead of 2B to continue the combo)

2B should need no introduction. It gives you space, it is handy in corner pressure due to the blockstun it puts enemies in, and it's used in most of your combos

Basically, they're only used when you're reading your opponent like a book, or for your bread and butter combos. Only use them if you know the enemy will be blocking or if you're extending a combo. Never throw them out haphazardly. I guess that goes for most of Alice's moves, though, so yeah

>> No.8918637

>>8918604
On the subject of spirit damage, back when I used to mess around with Sakuya, I was able to guard crush like it was nothing.

I have no idea how to do any of Alice's block strings. wat do

>> No.8918719

>>8918637

Alice doesn't really have block strings save for those in the mid field that rely on well placed C dolls and well timed attacks. She *can* use her spell cards, mostly Little Legion and Seeker Dolls, to get a long block string and guard crush, but, well, those are spell cards

It's difficult for me to explain because Alice's "block strings" tend to really just be her carefully sequencing her C dolls and melee, and then using Doll Placement, Doll Activation, and j5C dolls to continue the pressure. I don't really think I've mastered any real block strings for her yet

A few points that will probably help though;

2A provides a longer blockstun than 5A, so it's one of your preferred moves for extending a blockstring as a doll peppers the enemy with bullets

2B forces an enemy to guard for quite a while unless you cancel it, allowing you to make time for your dolls to fire

Thousand Spear Dolls work well with block strings although their usage generally is regulated to settling for chip damage and getting yourself better spacing for another attack rather than actually guard crushing an enemy. In particular, j2C into 214B (TSD) on a cornered opponent sets you up for proper spacing for another attack while mostly keeping them pinned. I'm not positive, but I don't actually think it's frame tight, though

TLDR: Alice doesn't have blockstrings so much as on-the-fly opportunities she makes for herself with copious j5C, 6C, and j2C usage. Any blockstring you want to consistently get down will almost definitely involve Little Legion

>> No.8918910

>>8918719

As an addendum, as I realize I haven't really given any useful advice; try to perfect a j5C 6D 5A 2A repeating motion. I don't have time to check right now, but that's the closest thing I can think of to a consistent blockstring she can do. I don't think it's frame tight, sadly. And obviously, it only works in the midfield

It's hard for me to explain because, again, I haven't really mastered Alice's blockstrings. To be honest, I don't think she even has any that don't involve an enemy being defensive and letting you set up C dolls or a spellcard
