No one knows. I suppose for maximum profit, the management should make her participate. Tons of fans would vote to make her #1 position sure.

I'm interested in how many new team 4 and sister group members rank this year. Considering there's 64 ranks this year, I suppose many new girls will be called to the stage.

>Who will be the face of AKB after her?
There are 4 options in my opinion:
1)Temporary someone from 1st gen till they promote someone young enough.
2)Yukirin - 3rd place in the last Senbatsu
3)Jurina (temporary my ass)
4)Yui - just like in Majisuka Gakuen 2
I don't think that they will make Sasshi the face of AKB48 since she lacks appeal to more mainstream fans.

I agree on Jurina and Yui, though I think Sasshi might work as well. But I admit she might have a bit too much of a "taste" - the center needs to be like vanilla ice cream, appealing to various audiences while not being too individual. Sasshi would need to tone down her personality if she were center.

Yukirin I'm not sure about. I think she may not appeal to a wide enough audience. AFAIK one of Maeda's strengths is that she also has quite a bit of female fans, which helps a lot in a group like AKB that has been sometimes dismissed as eyecandy for men. Yukirin's imago is sweet princess & perfect girlfriend, so making her center might make AKB less popular with girls and mainstream audiences.

Overall it's a difficult situation. All the long-time members other than Maeda have had to form their individual image and appeal to stand out from the rest, but now it may be precisely that individuality that makes them unfit for center. Tomochin? Fashion leader adored by teenage girls can't be the face of all AKB. Mayuyu? Too cute, more strawberry than vanilla. Mariko? Too old and funny, her jobs outside AKB make her too busy to be the face of AKB. Yuko? Genki, perverted, very individual, may tire out the audience if Maeda's gloominess/passivity isn't there to balance it out. Miichan? Variety queen won't be taken seriously centering ballad singles. And so on for the rest.

For this reason Jurina would be good, since she has her history but due to centering SKE has a personality vanilla enough, but taking her away from SKE could be fatal for the group and the girl herself may not like the idea of switching groups, seeing how devoted she is to SKE.

Tomochin's popularity bombed hard recently, so she is out of question. Mayuyu should first change her image from to loli-like to more serious one. Regarding Jurina, I really hope they will leave her alone, since together with Rena and Churi are the main advertising force for SKE.

In the span of 7 years, Akb changed now having various faces representing them instead of just 1,due to the veterans members that have started to gain or have gained popularity and acknowledgement. So obviously if a face graduate the next popular face will take over. The current roster being yuko, it will be interesting to see if she goes unchallenged during the election if acchan is not participating.

After acchan graduation, the center position will not be a fixed one but held by different members depending on popularity demand. No one can do what acchan did nor replace her, being forced to be the central figure from the beginning when there was none, to working her way up gaining and holding momentum, 7 years of centering all singles(except a lost in 1 election and janken tournaments). Truly one of a kind. Or yasusu can just shove someone else down our throat and force us to accept it again.

With the number of age over 20 veteran faces graduating in the not so near future, I am more interested in how yasusu is gonna groom enough talented members to replace the huge gap they leave behind.

Also JURINA ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE AND IS STILL SKE!!!
FUCK YOU YASUSU FOR MAKING SKE CRY LIKE THAT!!!

I'm expecting Fresh Lemon and Paruru, hoping for Ranran, Minarun, and Annin. Some of the freshly promoted girls seem promising too, though I wouldn't expect them to rank yet.

I think the scandals (Kago, Fujimoto, etc.) were a big part of the downfall as well. Popular AKB members, right now, are probably too busy to even have scandals. Their popularity right now is far larger than even golden era Momusu's.

Overall a lot of Momusu's problems have been avoided with AKB IMO. One big part of it is that the management seems to be a lot more sensible (for most part, I've heard of some mistakes from JKT and NMB managements). Also Akimoto > Tsunku in practically every respect. Actually sometimes listening to the fans, for example...

>> No.8766821

MM did gradually fade away though. The same thing is going to happen when the popular AKB members leave one by one. Really, AKB should not have embraced the oshimen concept. It's just a psychological tool for fans to rationalize spending more money on a single member than they would have on the entire group otherwise. Once your oshimen leaves and all the junk you bought becomes useless, you don't want to switch to another girl and continue. I'm sure some of you understand if you used to be a H!P fan.

I agree that AKB isn't going to last forever, and that the oshimen concept is problematic in the way that you mention. However, AKB's popularity will probably last longer (they've already had more million-selling singles etc., so this should be true unless something very dramatic happens) due to the management doing a better job.

Also, I have the feeling that Aki-P may end things with a bang once he feels that the 48 project isn't serving it's purpose anymore (pleasing fans, preparing girls for the showbiz world and making profit). Tsunku has been clinging to MM, not being able to let go due to his nostalgia and not really having anything else, and that's why MM has faded.

Meanwhile, Akimoto thinks that AKB should serve as a stepping stone to the girls rather than as their final destination. I think he is less emotionally attached and more rational, so Akimoto may well disband AKB once its magic stops working and start some new project, rather than letting AKB go on and on far after its prime years.

For these reasons I think AKB's eventual fall will be different from MM's fate.

Hmm, Tomochin lives in the same complex as Takahiro though so it's not anything surprising if they she leaves and enters. Supposedly they've been seen having yakiniku locally but again, no solid evidence yet. Their agencies will just sweep this under the rug as if nothing's wrong.

>> No.8768320

The latest issue of weekly tabloid ‘Shukan Bunshun‘, which will officially hit news stands on March 29th, is going to reveal an alleged relationship between AKB48’s Itano Tomomi and EXILE’s Takahiro. The first photographs of the article already made it onto the web, and quickly became a hot topic on various bulletin boards and Twitter.

Shukan Bunshun has not only received testimonies from people around them who claim that they are serious, and also obtaining pictures that indicate that Itano and Takahiro are living in the same multi-storied apartment complex. Apparently, Itano is living on one of the lower floors while Takahiro has rented an apartment on an upper floor. They often have been spotted coming home at around the same time, hinting at possible dates after work.

One or more of such dates have already happened at a yakiniku restaurant, which is said to be one of Takahiro’s most favorite restaurants, in close proximity to the apartment complex. The tabloid has witness reports of the couple going there together at the end of last year.

Another crucial piece of evidence that makes the alleged relationship all the more possible is that the two of them have been spotted wearing couple rings in early February 2012.

Itano’s agency didn’t deny that they had a meal together, but they clarified that the outing took place together with their managers. EXILE’s side outright denied that Takahiro ever had a meal with Itano at all.

Reactions towards this article have been mixed so far. Many people don’t really believe it or don’t want to believe it, while others already bring up the topic of another graduation coming soon.

>BTW~ even tho I'm an AKB fan, I don't expect you to write an article to completely praising them but some part of this article is so...questionable....AKB is here to thank US for their help, they were chosen because AKB themselves donated over 20 million USD as well as 30 vehicles, and visited tsunami areas 10 times, including handing out presents to a children school in the radiation zone Fukushima (alot of their fans who were teens and kids were very happy) and is the perfect representative to thank US for their contributions. Not only that, they're helping the cultural exchange between Japan and US.....I think some part of this article could be rewritten as not to sound condescending to these GUESTS. If it had been a more reliable magazine or if they had taken better pictures, a lot of fans or wotas would be taking this seriously. However, the tabloid magazine Shukan Bunshun is known for fabricating stories from whatever little scoops they can get. The "insider sources" from their stories are always anonymous and the things these "sources" tell the magazine are always too detailed for an bystander to know. This time, it seems like the magazine got a picture of the two in the same building but they couldn't capture the two together. The reaction on this one is pretty tepid so far, except on the 2ch celebrity rumors board and morningcoffee, who are spamming this on twitter and everywhere else on the internet by the way.

I see AKB peaking, declining a bit and plateauing but remaining fairly popular.

Expanding outside Japan is unprecedented and can only be a good thing for the franchise even if they do start declining in Japan.

Plus the business model in theory is based off local theaters that cater to local audiences. If they ever went back to that level they'd have to downsize extensively but it's still a really neat concept and new groups can in theory grow and compete with each other across the country.

■「Requires at least 1-3 months to recover」

After Yuwasa twitter update, 2ch came up with a thread regarding 「Jurina is already at her limit」. 「Cannot forgive AkiP」「AkiP what are you going to do about this…… Seriously, do you not know about Jurina’s things……」AkiP has been criticized for the unreasonable work. 、「is this sickness really panic disorder or depression?」「Seems like autonomic imbalance」 doubts raised about her mental illness.

Spoke to a psychiatrist regarding Matsui-san’s symptoms and being sensitive to sounds, the view was that it is not 「hyperacusis」. This symptom is usually caused by large stress or overwork, to recover it requires a minimum of at least 1-3months of good rest, the person himself wishes, that it is important to slowly talk about future prospects regarding the living conditions from now on. It may be necessary to consider using a stabilizer or undergo counselling.

>yfw you see this blog entry I wrote

You don't have to like Takamina, but if you don't get why OTHER people like her then you've definitely missed something. I'm going to be condescending and elitist and say you two are just looking at the surface of AKB48 and need to dig deeper into what the group is really about. The only way I can fathom how you two could think Takamina is fake and annoying is if I assume you've been watching nothing but her variety show appearances. I guess maybe you got that impression from her overreactions. You can call it a character, although I think it's more of an exaggeration of what she's really like rather than a made up personality. You guys don't think she's not a kindhearted person, do you?

But don't think you're the only ones who can "see through" her act. The Takamina that people like and respect is not just the girl on tv (maybe for newbies). People like the person underneath. They know tv is where she can be silly and make them laugh. Takamina really is a leader and is probably the strongest, most passionate and hardworking member. This is not just coming from me, your favorite member will say the same thing and has probably blogged about it too. Maybe you don't know this, but Takamina had already been recognized as the de facto leader before she was given that position from Akimoto. She leads both by example and by actively supporting and motivating the group. AKB has A LOT of behind the scenes stuff but maybe it's hard to find these days. You should watch whatever backstage footage you can to see what she's really like. You'll often see her watching over everybody, handing out advice, discussing matters with the staff, and giving her own speeches rather than relaying messages from the boss.

>> No.8830976

cont

Also, I think people who are positive, assertive, confident, and social are just more likeable. That's what Takamina is. Not only do AKB's staff love her, many tv staff and tv co-workers love her too. There aren't many idols out there with the guts or communication skills to say something worthwhile when they're on camera. She has both so she's going to take all the camera time. Oshima Yuko is like this too, and most of what I said before. On a related tangent, I think AKB is more interested in getting their girls into positions as tv regulars or co-hosts, rather than being wacky personas moving through the tarento circuit like some other idols. Some non-fans don't like AKB because they're not "interesting" enough, but I think being "normal" is what their Japanese fans find interesting about them. I really believe Japan doesn't like idoly idols anymore and that's why AKB is popular now. I feel like someone is going to troll this thread if I claim AKB girls show deeper or more "real" personalities. Of course, I don't think they're really "real" but I'll stick by it.

>> No.8830988

From watching this thread, it seems to me that many of you are attracted to members who have "traditional idol" characters, maybe because you follow other idol groups this way. Girls like Yukirin, Mayu, Rena, Fresh Lemon, and Sawako. These girls are interesting to watch, but some of them are called 2.5 dimensional in Japan because they don't seem like real people. And you can plainly see that some of them are unauthentic such as Mayu, Lemon, and Sawako. These girls are going to be in trouble in the future if they don't allow different aspects of themselves to be seen. AKB is produced to reveal as much about the members as they can, so I think the girls who the are most frank and open about themselves will stand the test of time. Yuki and Rena are pretty outspoken and independent so they will be alright. But I'm wondering whether you guys see that, or whether you guys like them just because they have an image of daintiness. Obviously, now you're going to say you like girls with deeper personalities, right?

Anyway, there's no WRONG way to follow idols and you're free to like whoever you want, however you want. But if you want to know why someone like Takamina gets top respect, it's because she personifies what most people like about the group. You don't have to be the prettiest, funniest, smile all the time, or be a "perfect" person. People will follow you if you can demonstrate perseverance through adversity and unwavering dedication while chasing after your dreams. I know I sound like I'm full of myself. But after being a fan of several idol groups, I can say that this is it. Some of you back me up here.

TAKAMINA MAD RESPECT!!!

>> No.8831273

>>8830965
It's not that I have a disliking for her, she simply does nothing for me. It's not through lack of seeing her appearances behind the scenes, on TV shows etc that I don't see her appeal. I recognise she probably is the most hard working and probably is the most appropriate for the 'leader' role but it's just something about her overall that kinda annoys me at times, from the way she talks to her actions, I'm just not a fan.
I don't really know where I'm going with this, but my point is that she does nothing for me on any level. However, that's just my opinion, and it's pretty evident by her ranking many would disagree.

>>8830988
>they don't seem like real people
I don't want them to, that's why I like 'idoly idols' because it's not something you're actually going to find in the 'real' world. The same reason many have a passion for 2D, simply because it's an ideal that's not existent within 3D.

>These girls are going to be in trouble in the future
Fading in to obscurity is an inevitability for any TV personality, not just idols. I would rather my favourite idols didn't have to be something different and bland so they get future work.

>But if you want to know why someone like Takamina gets top respect
Dude, throughout your posts, you're confusing respect with like/attraction.

No one said "I don't respect Takamina, she doesn't work hard and is a bad person". Anyone who doesn't respect each and every one of the remaining 1st gens would be an idiot. However, not everyone likes her or is attracted to her. That's completely different from respect. I respect the president of my country, but in no way do I feel attracted to an old guy like him. My feelings towards Takamina are in the same direction: respect, zero attraction.

Also, Takamina exaggerating = just showing more of her real personality, Mayu/Sawako/Lemon exaggerating = "plain unauthentic"? How objective. But to begin with it's not about whether her character is real; if the personality she shows isn't attractive to a person in the first place, that stands regardless of whether it's real or not.

As for being positive, social, confident etc., she's not the only one in AKB and many girls do it in a more interesting way IMHO. For one I love Yuko, whom you mentioned.

I find it really weird that Takamina fans feel there is some objective truth that she should be liked by everyone. You aren't any better, deeper or more of a fan than anyone else for liking Takamina. If anything, I liked Takamina more when I was a newbie to AKB and my attraction towards her has decreased the more I've seen of her.

I think it's unfair to claim members like Mayu are fake just because they behave like traditional idols. It's not like AKB48 expects them to behave a certain way, in fact I think members of other idol groups would be more relieved if they were in AKB48.

Why would they hide their real personality when there's no expectations in the first place? It makes no sense.

I guess contrary to anon's response one reason they're popular is that there are so many members anyone can find someone they like.

But I think I generally agree with his assertion that idoly idols don't have as much appeal as they used to. It used to be idols represented a life that most Japanese people couldn't attain. Their personal lives were coordinated and they were presented to the public in a pre-determined manner to represent some kind of ideal. In reality they usually didn't live in the houses they were reported to live in, didn't enjoy any of the activities they were reported to enjoy and bassically everything up to and including their name was fake. It was entirely an image. As living standards improved and public interest started changing idols became more and more "normal" and I think AKB is the modern epitome of that trend. People like them cause they can relate to them.

>or is attracted to her [takamina]

Takamina has always complained that she doesn't have many "girly features" but that doesn't stop her from ranking high in the senbatsu elections. She stood out in the very beginning despite not being "attractive".

>You aren't any better, deeper or more of a fan than anyone else for liking Takamina.

I wouldn't go that far but there are different kinds of fans. I used to have a friend IRL that was an AKB fan but he really didn't know anything about the group he just liked all the pretty girls (Maeda was his favorite). Funnily enough he got into SNSD and the first PV he showed me was their jap version of Gee so for like two months I thought they were another j-pop band. It's obvious they had the same appeal to him though -- attractive asian girls dancing around to pop music (lol). I guess there's nothing really wrong with that, I never condemed him for it, it's just an observation I had... I'm not that "deep" of a fan either I just find them interesting and fun to follow.

That doesn't automatically guarantee you a seat or something, far, far from it. I've not heard of anyone winning via that method in a good couple of years. Granted I don't have contact with all foreign fans, but your odds are literally zero with that method. Ippan is far better, chances to win are still ridiculously low but at least you have a chance with that method. It's certainly the only method I've ever won with.

Besides, there's nothing stopping you applying with super long distance and then going on to apply via Ippan. No matter what you do, you just have to have a hell of a lot of luck to win a ticket.

There's also a lot of songs of dark/serious love, but that may not be what you are looking for. Out of these I personally like SKE48's Kataomoi Finally (best enjoyed with the music video) and Itoshiki Natasha.

Then there's the dark songs with a more sexual tone, like Seifuku ga Jama wo Suru, Keibetsushita Aijou, etc., and in particular Innocence (SKE)...

Akimoto's lyrics are generally way better than your average idol song though, I'd say. Even the vapid love songs have relatively interesting lyrics.

That'd be dramas.

Idol stuff used to be rather fake in the past, but these days it's a lot more real. People are tired of the old, always-perfect idol mold. Especially in AKB, the idols are more normal and down-to-earth girls these days.

Of course entertainers and celebrities still have to exaggerate some parts and tone down some facets of their personality...

Well, playing otaku card in Japan is quite dangerous. But even if it is just a gimmick put up by her agency, they've really put some work in that.

I'd think it's true for a couple of reasons:
1) She talked in some video about how she hesitated about showing her otaku side, because people may be grossed out by an idol showing it. Seemed pretty genuine IMHO.
2) She draws in a moe style pretty damn well (pic related). Someone who has no interest in otaku stuff probably wouldn't be able to reach this level...

It's a pity the stores in Tokyo don't do bigger posters than that. I found the store in Hong Kong had far better goods than Harajuku's or Akiba's.
Also, it's a pity Mayu's trading photos go for 2k+ yen, let alone a signed one like yours. However, my favourite items remain to be a couple of signed Ono Erena photobooks.

Based on my past experience with graduated idols, I will probably retain the shrine for at least another year or two after the graduation before moving on, either to other idols or nothing at all, at which point the stuff will be gradually moved more and more out of sight until it is replaced entirely with whatever I am interested in from then on.

Probably anyway. I like Sumire way more than I have any other idol to date so it might well be different this time around. If she is successful in her post-AKB career then there's a good chance that I'll continue to support her. I honestly can't say for sure. Why can't idols just stay young and ungraduated forever? You know, just like my Idolm@sters. It almost makes me wish I could have the same appreciation for 2D that some people around here do.

I actually bought one from a shop in Akiba and the other from Nakano. Her first photobook I bought I few years back, for 3,500 yen and her final book before graduating I got for 5,000 yen. I'd say they were pretty cheap to be honest. I certainly appreciate them anyway.

>>8860026
My stuff usually stays on my wall or wherever it was until I get something new that I don't have space for. I'd never sell anything though. Certain things if I really like them will probably always remain on display regardless of graduation.

In other news, I got to see a Kenkyusei performance last night, it was my first time seeing the new generation members and I thought they were awesome. In fact, it was probably my favourite performance I've seen of AKB, but maybe having front row seats this time helped. Also, it was Sakura's birthday which was nice to be there for.
