Hey, /jp/. /co/mrade here. I just wanted to know...

Why is it that so many manga and anime and pretty much anything set in Japan uses "sandwiches" as a default food. Not any specific type of sandwich, the main character will just say "I would like a sandwich" or "I made sandwiches!" and everyone will immediately know what he/she's talking about. Even if it's just an Americanization thing, why don't they ever specify?

Pic unrelated.

Holy autism, Batman.

It's just that, unlike America, the rest of the world doesn't always eat greasy shit like you do. Sandwiches (and optionally tea) are a nice healthy snack.

I said 'pic unrelated' and spoiler'd it. Don't act like you didn't look at the shit on your own accord.

But what TYPE of sandwich? What's on it? This is optimal for my enjoyment of the program.

In the first episode of Daily Lives, one of the characters was eating curry.

But they didn't specify what kind of curry it was.

FUCKING DROPPED.

>> No.8806956

Does it really matter? Will anyone in the audience benefit from knowing which specific type of sandwich the characters are eating?

Exactly. The show can't recover from something like that.

It may blew your mind, but outside of the traditional riceballs, sushi and tempura, Japanese people also eat sandwiches.
I'm prettysure it's an Americanization thing, everyone now America invented sandwiches (with the help of Korea).

Traditional American "club sandwiches" are hugely popular in Japan, so it could be those. They got quite big with the arrival of Americans following WW2.

They may also be refering to soba sandwiches, which are like submarine sandwiches but with buckwheat noodles on them. Quite gross actually. Pic related.

Only "traditional" club sandwiches are called sandwiches in Japan.
Yakisoba bread is called pan, and it's sold with the regular baked products.

Also it's not gross. Not good, but not gross either. It's just noodles in bread. Korokke pan is ace though.
