last night or maybe it was the night before i heard the voices again. it was the undercover local cops talking about how they got all the evidence then needed for a search warrant because of what the hidden cameras at radio shack caught on tape. i am glad i made my tree antenna and it was working great until some kids put toilet paper all over it on halloween i decided to sleep that night, i just ran out of juice. but anyway that tree antenna was the key. now the encryption is coming in clearer than ever. i heard the radio shack thing from that scanner. i only use old scanners now. the new ones are either bugged or have tracking chips that the cia and fbi are using to put togather a list of all of those they need to watch. my girlfriend left me so now i have more time to scan and i have an idea. i am going to disconnect most of the power in my house and use all of the house wiring as a giant antenna. between that and the tree antenna i should be able to finally get all of the details about this radio shack conspiracy, but for now is suggest staying away. i will update everyone as soon as i get the rest of their dirty little plan. i hate them. they are always watching. but i am a better watcher. i am watchful eye.

We can moderate /jp/ by ourself by posting in and bumping threads we like while ignoring these we don't want.
The janitor is only needed against blatant shitposting, spamming and raids.

/jp/ can basicly discuss whatever it wants and the fact how even in shitty trollthreads sometimes a meaningful discussion blooms always fascinates me.In a sense /jp/ is a huge pile of trash

>> No.8782020

That guy was obviously joking.
http://www.autism.org.uk/about-autism/all-about-diagnosis.aspx

As for that thread, I'll never get people like this. There are 160 slots for threads. Having 10, 20 or even 50 of those taken up by a few off-beat threads is no problem. Even though /jp/ uses sage relatively sensibly, you have to look past the first page. Don't like the threads on page 0? Go to page 1. Don't like those? Try page 2. You even have tools that can hide threads from yourself and display all the current threads on one nice page.
If /jp/ had to be 100% ON-TOPIC ONLY it would be no fun. Take it easy.

Either delete all or leave all, otherwise you're a failure of a moderator and should stick to administrating some free bumblefuck anime forum, not an anonymous imageboard, and specially not /jp/ of all places. This is lunatic modo, and a new egocentrical judgamental noob mod is the last thing we need.

Some have better potential for discussion. What happened to the whole "shitposting culture" mess? I thought off topic was what /jp/ was about?

Grow up, even an idiot can recognize when a thread is just utter trash, or if it has potential for discussion.

I like that they do this. And frankly they have good judgment.
Threads are often left because they're popular, which makes sense. Someone might ask, "What is your favourite cheese, /jp/?" and if it only had one or two replies, it would obviously be deleted. However the janitors might be asleep and then we have a great 50+ reply thread about cheese. These sort of zany, off-the-wall threads are some of my favourites and break up the monotony of everyday /jp/ life.
The only thing I dislike is that they have too strong of a tolerance for blog threads. A lot of /r9k/ types seem to think that because we have NEET threads, you can extend that to almost anything. "Today my sister walked in on me fapping ;___;" combined with a Touhou/hikikomori image, and you have a safe thread. So then people make about fifty of them.
Janitors should delete threads when they can be condensed, even if they're not explicitly rule breaking. We're delving into babysitting/handholding territory a bit here, but I think it's something important to /jp/ they should consider.

What you're saying is that only threads you like should be kept, no matter the content. That's some awesome moderation dude, what the fuck is potential for discussion? you either apply the rules or you don't, cherrypicking what threads can stay based on your own quality standards you pulled out your ass is the worst kind of moderation possible.

>> No.8782096

>>8782088
Sorry, you quoted a post that began with "If /jp/" and it confused me. 4chan has always had off-topic threads, obviously. All forums do.
In fact /jp/ is a special case, because the whole point was that it was to handle all of the off-topic threads that swamped /a/.

The same thread can be posted on six different boards and turn out completely different on each one. That's what I like about 4chan.

Either the flurry of crap or NO off topic shit all. But I when I see a fucking Something Awful spam thread survive all night while other shit threads are getting deleted right and left, something is clearly wrong. Why the fuck Yume Nikki general gets deleted but Dreamcast otaku game recommendations is not? is Yume Nikki not otaku enough for the janitor? where is the line?
This faggotry started midweek with some visible bans, I am pretty positive a new janitor is in town and he doesn't know what he is doing.

If it bothers you that much, why not request a sticky so that we can see what's allowed to be posted on here and what's 'not' allowed?

And none of the "lurk more" crap please. This is how decent threads get deleted left and right because janitor's have no fucking clue what deserves to be allowed on here.

Accidents happen, look at the tea thread for example.

And was it really a Yume Nikki general, or was it just madotsukipuking.jpg in a hundred different versions? Honestly a lot of threads could do with a much prettier looking OP post, half the time it just looks like more spam, but thats my personal preference.

I remember that thread, and almost commented on it in /ghost/. I can understand why it was deleted though. Terrible choice for picture and it wasn't very topical or interesting, just "Yume Nikki general".
There's a rule about quality (though it's not really a rule) and just typing the name of a game isn't exactly high quality. It's only a notch above textless screencap.

Fuck that noise. A sticky explaining the rules would both be incredibly tacky and utterly useless. The people who love arguing about what does and doesn't belong would just continue to argue about their interpretation of the sticky. I'll agree that the janitor does require some calibration, though.

It wouldn't be as useless as you think it is. As long as the sticky explained 'what' stuff are allowed to be posted on /jp/ in precise detail, then it might stomp out all the shitposting you guys keep gettting hit with everyday.

I know it sounds like a foolish idea... but it 'would' help the Janitor's know what would need to be done if they saw it. Of course they could just ignore it... but then they'd just be a faggot and wouldn't deserve to police this section at all.

The problem with a sticky is that it'll just create more drama and discourage lurking. Personally I like telling people to lurk more because sometimes they actually do. Something like an FAQ might be nice, but it wouldn't really work for /jp/ since we don't have set topics.

>> No.8782232

>>8782213
I'm only trying to help. Or do you enjoy constant shitposting and shit threads constantly shitting the board up and not letting you take it easy at all?

Sure a sticky is probably suicide... but like I said;

- Sticky explains what is allowed and what isn't in prescise detail and leaving nothing out.

^It can curb out shitposting... and it can help the janitor's realize that they can't do a shitty job and delete threads that are basically allowed on /jp/ by mistake.

>>8782218
I am aware of it causing more drama and less lurking... you can just basically think of it as a FAQ (I'm not saying the sticky I had offered up as an idea was to set rules ya know)... but it have to be done in details that DOESN'T create drama / shitposting. But something like that is impossible isn't it?

>> No.8782241

>>8782170
Yeah, accidents, so "do you dream" with an angel beats pic is ok (still up) but "lucid dreaming" with madotsuki pic (different thread than the YN general I was talking about) is not.
"would you buy an android" sure is on topic. Or a cat behind a soccer ball.
The janitor can't be taken seriously when his criteria is totally illogical and based on personal taste.
Of course an anime pic with no text or only doubles can kill sudo should be deleted. But if you're going to police the quality of the board beyond that at least be consistent. Mods like this that think their taste in quality is so superior they can shape the board for the better by deleting and banning things they don't like (as opposed to just sticking to the rules and admitting he's not better) are amongst the worst scum of the internet, right up there with shitposters.

Going by moot/mod posts here.

/jp/ is for:
Figurines
Visual novels
Touhou
Doujinsoft
Comiket
Light novels

/jp/ is NOT for:
Hot-glue fetish
Non-worksafe content
Junior idols and child models
Roleplaying
Blogging
Video games (except Ar Tonelico)
3DPD

My personal idea is that if something is Japanese and doesn't fit in the other "Japanese Culture" boards, post it here. Even if it could also go in /tv/ or /mu/ or somewhere.

>>8782255
Going by how /jp/ is run, here's how I personally see how it should be done (and in precise detail if a sticky on a FAQ would work).

/jp/ is for:

- Touhou.
- Visual Novels (unless it's the one that belongs in /vg/).
- Blogging (by that I mean the NEET / hikki stories as they seem to go quite well).
- Figurines.
- Comiket.

There's probably more... but going by experience when I browse /jp/, this is what I feel should be allowed on here. I could be wrong though (and if I've missed anything, feel free to correct me).

>> No.8782267

>>8782232
In that case, just draft some proper rules for /jp/. moot has been playing around with the rules lately, and added /jp/'s first proper rule a month or two ago.

Write your own rules (maybe condense the easymodo ones), email them to moot, ask him to make a thread requesting feedback. Then we can all bicker back and forth until we arrive at some sort of consensus. "All things otaku welcome!" isn't really enough.

>> No.8782272

>>8782267
I might just consider doing that, this entire thread has given me an idea and it 'is' tiresome seeing so much shit getting posted on here making /jp/ a terrible place for me to enjoy.

Hopefully 'something' will be done out of this when I e-mail the rules to moot later tonight... but if nothing is done, it was worth a try right?

>> No.8782275

>>8782241
This gentleman is correct. I have nothing more to add besides the fact that I agree.

>> No.8782278

It's way simpler than that. /jp/ is for SFW japanese related content that is not anime, manga, travelling or language related, also japanese videogames too obscure and niche for /v/.
It's easy. If it survives that filter, it's on topic. I thought everyone knew this.
