I understand basic grammatical structure and know more vocabulary than I learned in my three years of studying spanish. All from watching anime and listening to 95% japanese music.

I know most of hirigana and katakana, but only about 5 kanji.

I can follow a conversation to a point, but wouldn't dream of trying to speak or write it myself.

I have already been to Japan, had long discussions with Japanese in Japanese and it worked quite well.
My largest deficit is vocabulary and characters, though, which makes up 80% of learning Japanese. Voiced VNs are a blessing.
