Finally got around to playing through Art 1. Was rather enjoyable actually, I was worried because I'd heard people say you shouldn't play it after playing ArT 2.

Though it would have been a smoother play through if I could have a found a complete walk through instead of having to keep track of 5 different lists and I still missed some talk topics.

>> No.8772006

>>8771961

I've only played Iris, Mana-Khemia, and Arland series.

Iris is pretty much a standard jrpg with a plot and item creation.
Mana-Khemia is school hijinks and item creation.
Arland is slice of life with item creation.

So basically, you go around beating up monsters and collecting ingredients and then make things with those ingredients.

I like Arland series best, especially Totori. It's nice and relaxing and I like the adventurer license system, which is a little ingame achievement/trophy thing. I'd recommend Rorona first though, but the system is a bit clunky.

> I was worried because I'd heard people say you shouldn't play it after playing ArT 2.
I can't even live normally without replaying both games every year. Of course AT2 is generally considered the best of this series (so far), but it doesn't mean you should skip any AT game just because you have played AT2. That's not even a fallacy, just plain stupid.

And if I remember correctly, there is a talk topic guide on gamefaqs.

Yea I was using that but for example...

>Expires: If you didn't craft the Ocarina while Misha was out of your party, or
if you crafted it while she was in the party.

This wasn't helpful at all given I didn't know when in the story she would or would not be with me and none of my saves were back far enough without being too far back.

And all the dialogue text was just in the way, I had to copy/paste/edit that guide heavily to make it useful. It also seemed to be missing a couple topics.

Just ask the mods in IRC. Usually "It's not (primarily) a VN and it's not doujin" is enough for them to agree it should be deleted. Then the OP is usually banned for "videogames thread".

Wouldn't surprise me if he's ban evading, actually. If a mod is reading this, can you check the logs? He's been doing this for a while.

"They're so kawaii and otaku and have waifus" isn't a reason. Tales games have VN elements. Persona games are similar. The Final Fantasy series has a larger otaku fanbase than all the GUST games combined. Yet those are (rightfully) prohibited because they're off-topic.

JRPGs go in /v/. As of a few weeks ago, we have a board called Video Game Generals. Guess where a recurring, long-lasting JRPG general goes?

It's a complete farce. moot could make a /gust/ board and they'd probably still post here, because the 'userbase is better' or whatever. If I'd left 4chan for a year and someone told me moot made a Video Games General board but the GUST threads were still being posted in /jp/, I honestly wouldn't believe them. The fact that they're being PROTECTED is a joke.
/jp/ decides what /jp/-related is. When a thread meets with this much resistance (to the point where some threads have had more DELETED posts than active posts) then I think the staff should agree it goes elsewhere.

People get bored because...well, people get bored.
A government could keep pushing for the same law or tax and no matter how much opposition it's initially met with, it will die down. Of course some people will always complain, and new people will join the cause, but eventually people will stop bothering. Yes this is a flawed analogy because it matters in the real world, but it shows even a large community of varied people do get tired of complaining. That's what happened. As a result, the janitor is now pandering to the people who like these threads. They used to get 2 or 3 regular posters, now they get dozens.

It's like the JBCS threads. Started out as spam/shitposting/off-topic to the point where scripts were developed to get rid of them, but now they're quaint and barely anyone complains, so the new janitors leave them.

Also, it's pretty hilarious how you some of you are seriously trying this two years after the fact.

I don't doubt it. I myself could very easily queue up posts with different writing styles and proxies and whatnot. However it's stupid to think that it's all one or two people. A LOT of people hate these threads. They just put up with them. Hell, even a member of staff said this at one point. Then /vg/ was created, a mod intervened, they came out of the woodworks.
We have better things to do than complain all day (most of the time), but that doesn't mean we approve of your off-topic video games threads.

The funniest thing though is the OP, the dude absolutely wants his general, no matter how slow it is, no matter how few things there are to discuss. He just wants his own permanent thread. /vg/ is too fast (6 days, 100 replies, this can't work), so /jp/ is the perfect place for him.

But I doubt it will happen in the next game, given how long they needed to develop their system on the ps2. In Atelier Iris it was still relatively standard, it took 3years till Mana Khemia. Although Atelier Iris 2's battles were also quite fun. Just a lot worse looking than Mana Khemia's.

In my opinion a barrel shirt has a LOT of style. It pretty much embodies what Atelier Iris is. Very similar to a "prinny shirt" (or simply everything prinny) for NIS/Disgaea stuff.
It's superior to a shirt with one hero/heroine in any way. (Especially because you don't even know if you'll like her and so on)

I'd personally LOVE to get my hands on a barrel shirt, but it's way too expensive. (I'd assume around 40Euro or so, given that I'd need to import the limited edition and stuff) I'll probably just buy the game from my local amazon, will be a damn lot cheaper.

Careful when doing Lastation sponsored quests. You can lock yourself out of recruiting Noire on the first playthrough if you aren't careful. You can't take shares from Planeptune or Leanbox in Lastation until a NG+ unlocks the quests.

What is the point of no return (feel free to spoiler tag it if you have to)? I have done a few of them but not all I think and I still haven't finished Chapter 2/

>> No.8813418

>>8813336
All the guild quests are repeatable, but depending on your desired ending, you may want to grind shares up in Chapter 5. Chapter 2 is the longest section of the game, everything after that is just a couple of a boss fights a chapter. Goddesses need 50% of their city's shares in their capital in order to join.

Just make sure that before you turn in quests that have a Lastation Sponsor, you only turn in either -Arfoire or -Lowee. This is only relevant in the first playthrough. Once you get an ending, you can go onto NG+ which will have everything but story related items or skills cross over. If you don't have the Lily Ranks for a specific ending, it is easier to do an entire playthrough and skip the cutscenes than it is to grind up the ranks through combat. Spam the chirpers whenever possible, although some unlock whenever you do a story related event.

>> No.8814292

>>8813418

So are you saying, there is no way to push shares around so that Lastation gets some?

Can't I just push shares from Planeptune to Lowee and then from Lowee to Lastation? Or something like that? There doesn't need to be a direct way. It's enough if there is one quest available, which deduces shares from a land, which can also get shares from other lands.

Note, that I only know Neptunia 1. But even there I already took not direct share-pushing instead of direct ones. Not sure if every land had the right quests or not, but each one had easier quests then others and sometimes it was simply better to do things differently.
I think I remember it was particularly hard to get shares from Lowee (or was that leanbox..) to Lastation, so I made a detour over Planeptune. I basically always had all shares on Planeptune and Lastation because those were the goddesses I was using.

I'd understand it, if you couldn't get any shares out of Lastation anymore. (or do you mean that?)
Because, even if I can't get the shares back from Planeptune and Leanbox, Lowee is fair game, right? So I can get all those Planeptune shares to Lastation, then to Lowee and from there to Leanbox and/or Planeptune.
Or is Lowee completely locked out as well?

This whole thing sounds very very strange to me.

>> No.8815072

Share quests go by their sponsor. If the sponsor is lastation, all share change rewards will go to their capital. In the first game, there are no quests that change the shares in the Lastation capital from Planeptune or Leanbox into Lastation so you have to rely on Arfoire and Lowee drains into Lastation.

Once you beat the game and do another playthrough on the same file, you will unlock 2 new dungeons and a series of quests that add in Planeptune and Leanbox drains in Lastation.

>> No.8815097

>>8815072

Ok, and there are no Lowee Quests (meaning, sponsored by someone from Lowee) which take Planeptune and/or Leanbox shares? Afterwards Lastation could draw shares from Lowee.

If that doesn't work, it would mean you could also lock yourself out of Blanc. If you can't get shares from Planeptune or Leanbox to Lastation AND Lowee, with Lowee only being able to get shares from Lastation, it would mean: Locking youself out of Noire implies no Blanc. Or are those "-lowee +lastation" quests limited?

>> No.8815157

>>8815097
The way the shares work is that the Sponsor city is the only city that has the changes. For example, when you do a quest in Lastation that subtracts Lowee but adds Lastation, with a Lastation Sponsor, the share change only happens in the city that the sponsor is in.

For example, if you are hired by Lastation to kill 10 rats, and are awarded +10 Lastation -10 Lowee, and complete it, it doesn't matter where you turn it in at because those changes will only happen in the Sponsor city (Lastation)

>> No.8815164

>>8815157
Whoops, there should only be one example.

Whoever sponsors the quest, the shares changes happen to. Just because Lowee disappears from Lastation, that doesn't mean that the shares in the Lowee capital deplete at all. What happens to the Sponsor, stays in the sponsor.

Ah, so basically, every land has now its own shares, unlike the old system, where the whole world had one.

That means it doesn't matter at all what I do "in" the other lands, because only lastation quests count. And those might also put points into Planeptune/Leanbox, which you couldn't get back. I think I get it.. and don't like it a lot, but oh well.

>> No.8815200

There are both City and World Shares. World shares display what faction has what percent of the over all shares. City shares are directly influenced by quests, World is influenced by the all of the cities, not just the capitals.

The only ending that requires world shares to be a certain percentage is the ruler ending.

A lot of people thought that where you turned it was where the changes took place. Myself included.

This lockout isn't that bad, your first ending will most likely be Planeptune Forever if you aren't gunning for a specific ending.

Get Lastation's, Lowee's, Leanbox's, And Planeptune's GLOBAL shares to at least 15%

Everyone at lily rank 4 or 5.

Recruit all of the goddesses.

Lastation, Leanbox, Lowee, And Planeptune's shares at 80% in the cities (Y'know, when you hover over the city with 8-bit Nepgear.)

Arfoire's GLOBAL shares at less than 40%

Also note that there is one DLC event that happens during the true end. From what I understand, it is either the maid or cosplay one. NISA screwed up the descriptions.

So that chart isn't accurate? Good to know the other conditions then. Sounds like a lot of work.. and I'm really not someone who likes to go through a whole game again, just for an ending or something.
Saving at certain points is fine, but otherwise I'd rather start a whole new game, with characters on lvl1.. although I guess that wouldn't give me the bonus stuff either. New Game+ with "level keeping" is kind of useless if you want to play the game again, and not just rush through to get some scenes you couldn't get in your first playthrough.

The chart is accurate in some cases, such as the ruler and city ends. For the Maker end, you just need to have the Maker Characters at Lily Rank 5 to unlock it without fulfilling the needs of other endings.

Ruler end is the worse grind out of all the endings. I would have gotten the true ending my first time if I didn't have a few characters at Lily Rank 3.

I'm saving my 9th playthrough of the game when all of the DLC events are released.

Someone sure is a fan. Do you actually HAVE to keep all character-levels and stuff on new game+? If it actually offers some bonus-content, it might be worth checking out at some point, but I really don't want to need to get through all kinds of storydungeons with a way overleveled party. I'd rather take a nice break and then start on lvl1 again. (Although I guess, certain boni are nice to still have. For example those "Lily Ranks", as far as I understood it.)

You could just make a new file. Whenever you complete the game you can either go on and complete everything, or make a new file and go through it all again as a regular NG. I don't believe that there is an option for what gets carried over and what doesn't. I wish for a Tales like system in that regard where you get points throughout the game, then can purchase perks for a NG+ or a new playthrough.

I believe the only bonus content for NG+ that isn't offered without game completions for the file includes two dungeons and a work around with the Lastation lock out.

As for being a fan, I really enjoy the Neptunia series and eagerly await the rest of the "Year of Neptunia"

I'd guess it's some high level stuff in ng+, eh? (Nothing else would make sense..)
I still remember Atelier Iris 2 being awesome in that regard. It offers some additional arena challenges, which are simply awesome. The only battles which ever make you use items, which have a nice difficulty.. and where you can actually see your characters dieing. (Especially because enemies can deal more than 1000damage.. max hp was 999) I really don't know why Gust locked first timers out of it. I'm glad I liked it enough to replay it. It's still the only Gust game I replayed.. which doesn't mean too much, because I'm not a huge replayer, not any more at least. (I do have my 3runs and thus around 270hours in star ocean 3..)

Also I'm actually one of those few people who thoroughly enjoyed Neptunia 1. Even the gameplay was fine. Nice difficulty, fast ending random encounter, which also only appeared rarely. And of course a very very good cast, easily the best I've ever seen in an rpg. (And I know a shitload)
So looking forward to mk2, whenever everything got released. Although I still doubt it can get close to Neptunia1 with character interaction. (Especially because NISA half-dubbed... something really unnecessary)

You sometimes have to just spam click a character until new dialogue comes up. You won't have much at first, unless you are doing the ruler end, a good time to spam chirpers is the moment you move onto Chapter 6 or the very end of Chapter 5.

Chirpers unlock through progression, so if you don't have any after a few minutes of mashing, you should be fine. Just check every once an a while for new ones.

>>8816186
Vita seems like a good choice for a game. I wonder if the Noire game will be multiplat in regards to Vita/PS3.

>>8816199
The dungeons that come out after completing the game are actually pretty hard if you go at it with low level characters (I had problems at level 30 when I first attempted it, it was slightly difficult at 50.) I also couldn't pull the dungeons off with just Nepgear, Iffy, Compa and Nisa.

I didn't like the healing aspect in MK1 and the animations were a little too long, but since I was able to skip them, I did when there was a guard break up. Neptunia 1 had great writing though. I switched to the Japanese voices in both games because I thought they fit the characters better. Also they match up with the lips when the characters talk.

>> No.8816293

>>8816258

Neptunia1 had also the english voices lip-synced. I'm pretty sure at least. Also, yeah, animation skip was something I ALWAYS used. Guess you could say, that was bad gamedesign, but oh well.
Healing was mostly not needed, so I didn't care. And in those 1on1 battles it was actually kind of nice. Anticipate the next turn of the enemy, what damage will it do, how do I adjust my healing-skills to survive and not get into a danger-zone (i.e. barely over 50% health).. and so on. Landing under 30% hp, but not having the <30% healing spell active was pretty much your defeat. Just like not landing under 30% and having that healing spell active as well. So, constant changing.

And as for the vita thing. I'd be disappointed. Don't want to buy a Vita. Also, Noire is the embodiment of the ps3, at least for me.

>>8816316
Nope. Best way to go about endings is to pick which one you want when you are very early on in the game, and just focus on those requirements. Lily Ranks aren't a huge problem, you should get around 2-3 ranks based off of chirpers per character.

Also, as a recommendation on endings, don't get the Ruler Ending last.

Although it's sad how much NISA half-dubs, I'm pretty sure Tecmo-Koei would still do a worse dubbing job.

And then there's translation. NISA does by now quite a good job with their localization efforts. Their biggest problems are by now only somewhat minor stuff, like Atelier Rorona having inconsistent editing. You easily see that after exactly half the game, Rorona would stop calling Esty by her first name and use her last name in the Sub. Aside of that being kind of wrong, "translating" esty-san as mrs. last name, it's a simple editing error I'd assume. Two editors, and that part became inconsistent and sort of wrong.

So no Noire game? Hm, at least ps3. That said, let's see where that goes. I'd say 80s are worse than 90s, but oh well. 90s could've featured Noire getting born as Blanc's little sister, but then Blanc throws her out, and Noire proceeds to found Lastation. Would be perfect for the Noire game.
Historically Nintendo ordered a CD-drive from Sony for one of their consoles. (I think an extension for the Snes, though I don't remember that too well) But when Sony was ready to deliver it, Nintendo said "scratch that, we don't want it". Then Sony thought "well fuck you! We just make our own video-gaming system" and born was the Playstation.

It's funny that Nintendo practically made one of their biggest competitors themselves. And, again, it would be perfect for a Noire game story. Although.. I'm not sure how happy Nintendo and Sony would be about that.

There are a whole damn lot of possibilities in the 90ies. And of course, "Neptune" would have nice possibilities as well. She'd die. Poor Noire. Maybe Neptune could help her found Lastation, but then gets sick and the tragedy unfolds.

>The playstation got only popular, because you could pirate games so easily.

The Playstation got popular because it was piss easy to program for and ZOMG 3D.

The Saturn was a pain in the ass because it was build from the ground up for 2D and got a 3D co processor tacked on at the last minute. Not to mention sales were slow due to the lost consumer trust from the MegaCD and the 32x fiasco.
They get all my respect if they actually made a Megadrive-tan with 2 huge tumors in the game...

And while the n64 did not bomb completely the insanely expensive cartridges and the retarded controller held it back.
Over here a n64 game costed ƒ180~200 bucks compared to the ƒ100~120 for a PSX/Saturn game.
(The euro did not exist back then. im feel old... ;_;)

The 80 is a strange choice though. The 90 were a bit more vibrant IMO with the mario vs sonic war in full swing.
I hope the character designs from the scans are not final. They look way too modern. IIRC 80 were all about "futuristic" geometric designs like the huge Master System. Oh and lots of wood grain of course...

Why would you ever be without a Reyvateil? She should always be by your side. You promised Misha you'd never leave her behind, right?

Right?

At least you can just pop a no encounter item and book it in AT1.

iirc the only time you have to go back is for an optional quest that allows you to switch between adult misha and annoying brat misha.

That's the one thing I like about AT2; all your reyvateils are the same level, no matter what. Not that it matters as Jacqli is just flat out more powerful than Cloche or Luca.

And in AT3 it just didn't matter what level they were because you could just hit max purge and then run away from enemies until the burst was high enough to one-shot anything

Now that picture is just weird. At least the official artworks all looked fine, as far as me looking over them for a second goes. I probably wouldn't even realize that the breast got bigger. Well, except Nisa or Blanc had suddenly boobs of course.

Although I still dislike the whole "breast pimping". The "bigger breasts = sexier" part of society isn't exactly good. It doesn't matter in 2d too much, but.. it still reflects how things are nicely.

Tecmo Koei has their own companies in the west,

Risk aversion and pareto efficient distribution of resources. I'm sure they'd rather utilize their western distribution and publishing resources marketing games that you could consider low hanging fruit. Can't be bothered giving examples, but its fairly basic micro economics.

>> No.8850383

>>8849742

I know they do but that means little. They've been publishing the games in Europe for a while now but that hasn't stopped NISA from working on the NA side of things. I doubt very much that'll change.

>> No.8851270

Tecmo-Koei publish their own games in the west, don't they?

I think the most desirable scenario would be if NISA handled localization and TK publishes. You'd still get that close connection NISA tends to have with their fanbase, and maybe a slightly larger budget that can go towards more bugtesting and less things breaking.
