I've heard that the Touhou games work pretty well under Linux, using wine. I tried running both Imperishable Night and Perfect Cherry Blossom, both with the same issue.

The menu acts as though the up arrow is being held, though it it not. The result is endlessly looping through the menu options, like when you turn on a game console while holding down a control. Anyone experience this or have an idea for how I would go about troubleshooting? I don't use wine much.

Just install windows. everything in linux is a chore.

What's the point?

I fucking hate Windows. It takes 100% more place than linux for all the services. They don't tell you anything how computer works because they don't want you to know what there really is in your computer. And when you don't know what to do they tax you for advice. They tax you for language packs. It is a wonder why they don't tax you for updates. But it is understandable. Since most of those are against viruses and not getting free update would make windows obsolete.

Why use windows?
It is easiest to use.
Most programs support it.

That's all there is to it.

I had that problem on a laptop. The motion sensor in my laptop was detected as a joystick. When I put my laptop on a surface that wasn't level, the cursor veered in that direction.

OP here. Not a fan of windows, but unfortunately we are still at the point where it is necessary for gaming and a few other things.

Linux isn't hard when trying to do normal things, and I enjoy being able to configure things easily. Using linux doesn't hold your hand through everything, but extensive documentation makes most chores pretty simple.

I do have a windows PC, but I wanted to be able to play at least Touhou on the linux box when someone else is using Windows.

Program support is a pretty goddamn big reason.

Those sound like perfectly valid reasons to use an operating system. In fact, if you don't use an operating system that meets at least one of those requirements, you're retarded.

One setting that might help for PCB is if you run its configuration program and check the box with DirectInput. I don't think IN has an equivalent setting but I never had any issues with that one.

>>8754355
Alternatively if it's doing this you could try finding a way of disabling that.

I have dual boot in my laptop, and PCB had the same problem, it got solved using the setting mentioned in >>8754539, I'm seeing the same setting is also included in IN.

...Unfortunately they couldn't run at good speed there because I have an ATI video card.

I run PCB and IN on an Intel graphics without issue. If Wine is run through the terminal as per...
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Running_in_Linux_and_MacOS_X#Running_Touhou_games
...and you get an error like "Direct rendering is disabled, most likely your OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly" then it's falling back to software rendering.

So, from there you may need to use the proprietary ATI driver, or if you are using that, and on a 64-bit Linux, you may need to install its 32-bit libraries. Debian for example, separates them.
