What console had the best JRPGs?

I think it's the SNES, but my friend insists it's the PS2.

PS2, if you count backwards compat.

But PS3 doesn't have backward compat.

normally I would agree with SNES, but all those Valkyrie Chronicles, Chrono Chrosses etc. sort of elevate PS1 on the first place...

It's still a great (currently the best in my opinion) handheld to have. The sheer amount of games you can emulate makes it more than worth it and it also has a good number of worthwhile games like VC2/3, Tactics Ogre, Trails in the Sky and more.

>> No.8750513

Sony pretty much runs the JRPG market, Nintendo is trying to get back into it though.

Makes me wonder why don't i have a PS3

>> No.8750529

>>8750513
Because it doesn't have a single JRPG that makes it worthwhile. Unless you know Japanese. The PSV doesn't even have JRPGs apart from that one tales game. Fuck, what kind of retard are you?

PS2 has my favorite JRPGs, so I'd say PS2. I guess I wasn't born early enough to enjoy SNES JRPGs as much.

This. SNES had Earthbound/Mother 2, Terranigma, Super Mario RPG, and others that I'm sure I'm forgetting offhand. PS1 had Lunar, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, tons of great RPGs

It's really hard to say which comes out ahead. I will say that, if pressed, you would probably count a wider library of good RPGs on the PS1 than on the SNES, though
