I will, but sewing takes a lot of time and concentration. It is hard to put in more work after I work all day. (can't spend loads of money on dolls living the neet life) It probably took me two and a half weeks to make the dress since I tend to slack a lot as well.

That said, I probably won't go as far as getting a wig and boots and certainly not those admittedly cute but bushy eyebrows. There are many other characters I want to dress her up as too.

While I don't claim to be good and the face could have been much better, you would be surprised what you can do if you just try. I learned to sew on my own with a bit of help from the internet. If you have decent 3D visualization and planning, the actual sewing part isn't too bad. However, it does become more difficult with a doll since the things I would typically just fudge must now be precise. It is a skill that comes in handy pretty often and certainly seems like something a doll owner would benefit from. It can be stressful thanks to mistakes being hard to undo, but in the end it is a pretty fun hobby to be able to create just about anything you want.

Also, I appreciate the positive comment from people so far. I apologize for not having directly said thank you up to this point.

can anyone fluent tell me what the deal is with this Nia doll?

http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g105724700

I don't mind if she's used, has some flaws or minor stains, etc.... but google translate seems to imply she's had her head replaced, or other parts changed?

The translation seems to imply she comes with her original wig and outfits, but I want to be sure about that as well.

Basically I really want a Nia DD but I want to know what I'm bidding on, and since a Mint one is impossible to find I want to be careful about buying used. Help?

>> No.8619079

Not fluent.
The auction description basically says:
Eyes have been change once (so the Volks glue has been replaced with some sort of putty or other material)
The owner had an accident with her shoes (check photo 3)
Includes original wig (in packaging picture)
I'm not sure about the entire clothing set. You'll have to double check with the Volks Nia page.

Never got her strung. In the beginning, she was to be ball jointed, but creating the tiny cavities was a no-go, so I tried bendable sculpey with an armature, but couldn't get a nice even skin tone to work with. I have a decent mid range camera, nothing of dslr quality. Here, have a picture of the teensy torsos.

The 20cm is pretty cute though, if you like things in a more SD-esque style. Can't wait for the Azone PiccoNeemo's to come out, I hope they are as tiny as I am dreaming.

Regarding question #2, sorta keeping up. the updated primes pleases me (24 2.8, 28 2.8, 35 2.0) to include USM and IS. But since I have those focal lengths "covered" I won't be getting those anytime soon.

The 40mm pancake doesn't make sense neither by form factor or focal length, unless it's related to the APS-C mirrorless hinted by the 18-45 patent. .

As for bodies, seems like the 5D3/5DX will finally be announced. I pondered sweeping up a used 5DII once the flickrs and pros flood the used market with them, but all it offers over my current 5D is more megapickles and iso which as you've seen isn't really an issue for me.

>> No.8626085

>>8626032
That would make the most sense. Even though it might be APS-C, the current EF and EF-S lenses still have that long Flange focal distance designed for a mirrorbox. If they want their mirrorless to compete with the Sony they'll need new lenses for the form factor, then offer the "legacy" option via adapter, like the Nikon1.

On this trip, I spent 4 weeks in Japan. 1 week in Tokyo, then 3 weeks making a circle through central Honshu, down to Fukuoka, and back up the coast.

I thought it was reasonably cheap. I mostly stayed in hostels, though I did stay almost a week in Ryokan as well. I splurged a few times, and spent upwards of $100US on a few meals. Including airfare, a 21 day rail pass, and all other expenses, I probably spent around 5-6 thousand USD.

I bought that dress from a display case in Volks Fukuoka. I'm pretty sure it is homemade. I bought it with Saber Alter in mind, though it suits white-haired Mio nicely.

I've been waiting forever and my Obitsu bodies finally arrived. If anyone was curious (I know I was) about which Obitsu body to use in place of a PureNeemo I purchased a 21cm and a 23cm. I skipped the 25cm because that was the size on Reinforce and PN clothes are too small for it.

Pictured L to R:
Azone Flection, 23cm, 21cm.

21 cm would be obviously too small unless you're replacing PNXS
23 cm is closest
25 is too tall (not pictured, but based on the comparison to 23cm, there's a significant jump in height, see http://parabox.jp/eng_new/obitsu/27size_chart.html )

things to note,
socks will be too loose, which I anticipated
arms are a bit short, I may transplant the ones from the 25cm body I now have laying around to see how that works out.

I'm saving up money for my first doll, but I wanted to do the faceup myself. I'm going to try to work without an airbrush system and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or anything for me.

>> No.8641395

There are a few guides floating around you probably want to look for.

I don't think an airbrush is necessary really. Only tip I can offer is that usually a layer of Mr. Super Clear is sprayed on the head, before anything is applied. That way you can easily wash off mistakes and start over.

An airbrush is far from necessary unless you intend on using it for blushing cheeks and possibly eyeshadow (though I don't know why anyone would do that.) Even so, the same can be accomplished with chalk pastels.

I've been considering doing my own faceups as well....

Of course I'm excited! Realistically I won't get one for 7+ years, but I'm excited. I'm really, really excited for the price drop of the Mk2. I would like to sell my crop body with crop lenses to afford a Mk2, but I don't want to come up short a few hundred bucks and be out of a camera, which I think would be the case for me. Would sure be nice though. Maybe in a few months the second-hand prices will come down further and I'll have a bit more money to put towards a Mk2.

I might have/ want to pass. How do they do the lottery entry? Do they charge you the full amount and hold it? If so ill jus fina a yoko or airy on yja/ ebay

>> No.8667509

>>8667400
>9. In some instances, your bank may place an authorization hold for the total on the card; however, only the lottery winners will be charged.

Ultimately, you're only charged if you win. In the case of an authorization hold I strongly recommend you use a credit card so that money you may need until the final charge isn't frozen.

FWIW in the past I've used a Citibank brand card and was only charged on winning, however it's a large card that's regularly paid off. Smaller, higher risk cards may require the authorization hold and checkcards may do so to avoid overdrafting the attached bank account.

To put things into perspective It's only a matter of weeks before finding out of you'll win and be charged. It's the fulfillment part that hurts.

>> No.8667797

>>8667509
So if I have lets say 200 in the bank and I do their lottary theyll hold that money? Or only take it when I win? This ia confusing

>> No.8668000

>>8667797
This shouldn't be that complicated.

They won't partially charge you. Unless there's a system in place to do so, no one will do it automatically for you.
If you win a $600 doll they will attempt to charge you for $600.
If you only have $200 in the bank, then you can't pay.

It's foolish to use a card tied to a checking account for the lottery if your balance will be in doubt. You're better off using a credit card for entering the lottery or you need to re-evaluate your financial priorities.

Thanks! I needed to take the bad ones before discovering what could be done for the good ones. I'm still more technically strong than I am a composer but that comes with time too.

Here's something you can try with your E-PL2:

- Direct the flash toward the ceiling with a stiff white paper such as a paper plate. Be sure to block the front to prevent the flash from shining through. I know yours is different but the goal here is is to block the flash from projecting forward and redirecting it to the ceiling

- Adjust the flash exposure (lightning bolt with the +/- sign) by +1 (not hard and fast, you may need more/less.) This setting may only be available in settings P,A,S or M and not in iAuto. Basically since we're more than doubling the distance the light travels we need to add more so that none is lost when it reaches the subject.

Here's the white one I briefly had in my possession, I bought this custom out of haste before discovering she was the white skinned version but since I have no white bodies the charitable thing to do was release it back into rotation. FYI I think that's just a DDII body pictured, the head is from a MDD which may make the legs seem disproportionately longer?

Also am the only one frustrated you can't get a decent pair of DD-sized tights without buying a whole set of clothes? The big 3 (HS/HLJ?Amiami) obviously don't restock stuff made once, All the SD alternatives seem cheap and you can forget Volks re-manufacturing anything that isn't a body part.

Funny you mention that, I ordered some tights last week from them but they're all white. The dark ones they have, especially the ones you linked seem to have a coarse inconsistent texture that leaves something to be desired. I may revisit those choices if the white ones turn out good.

Regarding the YJA auction and SMJ,

Signing up for SMJ is far from economical if you need to get one thing in a pinch:
- You'll need money up front to build a deposit at SMJ. I think you get 5 to 1 so you'll only need to give them between $2-$300 to secure a 100000 yen bid limit.
- SMJ calculates a higher yen rate to protect themselves from inflation so if the exchange is 85 yen to the dollar, expect to be billed on a calculation closer to 80 円/$ (in the grand scheme of things, you'll pay an extra ~$50 for a 70000円 auction)
- The good news is the fees used to be rough. 69,800 円 will only cost you $35 USD in fees (a couple years ago, I paid as much in fees for an auction worth half as much) you'll still need $3 for the wire fee and local shipping from SMJ to you though.

tl;dr you'll probably pay ~$870 + $35 +$3 + ~$15-20 for USPS after securing an account

It's still worth it. While in the short run you'll need extra money to get set up before you can bid, in the long run it's a great service to have available.

I used SMJ to buy garage kits up the wazoo before getting into dolls but now I barely use it. However every now and then something comes up and I can just "get it."

Even if you don't pull the trigger on buying a doll right away you should still set up an account if you'd like a few things from time to time. You can establish a small bid limit with a modest deposit, and when the time comes you can increase your bid limit at a later date.

I think they wait for receipt in Japan before billing.

I would hate to have paid $800 for something the proxy doesn't yet have in possession. That's what the collective deposit is mostly for: operating costs at the foreign end.

If doing it yourself you would need the basic tools. There are lots of slightly complex techniques people use when customizing dolls but the basics tend to be very fine paintbrushes/pencils, some pure acetone, a finishing spray to protect both the base and the paint (can't remember the name right now), and handy things such as Q-tips, blotters, even a knife.

You need to know how to paint a face without fucking up, and how to fix a mistake if you make it, since most of the materials dolls are made out of stain permanently very easily. you also can blush the body (if you want to) or sand parts of the doll (if you want to).

The little dolls you are looking at seem to be designed to have their hair "rooted". I've never done this and don't know how to, most large BJDs use wigs. No reason you couldn't use wigs on a smaller doll either as long as you can find them the right size.

for basic customization I'd guess you wouldn't spend more than $50, but add in hair and clothes and it could be up to 100. also, not sure whether those eyes use decals or actual eye sockets, but you may need to buy those too.

The Volks character dolls older than Kyoko and Yumi don't seem to have a lot of allure compared to the more recent offerings but that's only if you leave her "as is." I've seen a lot of old dolls remade to be a lot more appealing.

and i forgot to mention the obvious... a lot of people favor either thin acrylic paint and pastels when painting their doll's face.

my advice would be to buy a pre-customized doll first and think about blank dolls after you own 1 for a while. My first attempts at painting were terrible, but I used barbie heads as practice until I felt confident enough to touch an expensive doll..

This guy, on the other hand, can take his own advice and I would be fine with that.

We told you we're not into that lifestyle. Well, Xodrox isn't..... but regardless, enjoy your inevitable ban.

Let me get this straight, you collect dolls and you aren't into putting things up the anus of other men?
Pretty funny, you should be on stage.
Run along and cry on IRC you little girl.
>Implying anyone is getting banned except for you from having friends, ever.

Half of /jp/ wants to wear cute dresses and be the little girl. If you want homosexual normalfags, plenty of them flocked here after the cock-sucking meme.

People just like cute things.

Quality aspie post in /jp/, home of the buttmad. You're not shocking anyone.

You're delusional.
Provide proof or stop posting.
Only closet faggots would use the word "cute"

Or Wapanese losers. Welcome to /jp/.
I guess there's nothing else to do, so I'll play with you awhile, Mr Troll〜

What have you become

So you're admitting you're a Wapanese loser and you have nothing else to do with your time except get frustrated at people on the internet?
Oh wow, I'm sorry man.

>> No.8707332

It saddens me that such a quality thread must be ended while smeared with your verbal feces.

I'm pretty sure this guy started because he was mad that he's too poor to ever afford a DD

>> No.8707416

>>8707325

That ended a while ago. Now it's just Gaia level posts, trolls, and people who humor trolls.

>> No.8707519

>>8707416
We've had generally good doll threads as of late. It's just the occasional visitor that likes to think they're funny. This type of trolling isn't new, cost and general questionability also show up in regular fig threads and kig threads too before frustration leads to namecalling and shitposting.
