Those of you anons that live alone, I've wondered this for some time, but what do you do when you find a spider and your mom isn't there to kill it for you? That must be tough. Do you just sleep on a park bench for a few days and hope it's gone by the time you get back?

There would be more insects there...

Just throw it out or kill it. There are more annoying insects.

I don't kill spiders I find in my room. There's a few living behind my dresser and a family of daddy long legs in my closet. Some times when I reach up high in my closet I touch and disturb their web, and I feel bad.

You're kind of a dick OP

What would you say if someone busted into your house when you were just minding your own business and tried to kill you?

Spiders don't even bite as long as you leave them to their business. They'll even eat common annoyances like fruit flies.

>>8691280
I hate the idea of crushing them. With small spiders it's okay I guess, but with big ones I always feel like I'm going to be able to feel them crunch, and just the thought of that is sickening to me.

Also I've never really been terrified of spiders because I fear that they'll bite me or anything like that. Its more that they just look creepy as all fuck, something about them just horrifies me on some basic level. The fact that I might get bitten never really enters my mind. Just having it walk on me is probably the worst possibility I can think of in such situations.

Spiders aren't completely stationary, they move about your house. Especially at night, some of them might enter your mouth while you're asleep, thinking it's a nice place to settle down, and then you might swallow them.

I would much rather drive spiders out of my house than have them "mind their own business".

Urban Legend

>Spiders aren't completely stationary, they move about your house.

This is different depending on the spider, Jumping spiders may have a range, but web spiders are very stationary, never venturing far from it unless they have decided to relocate.

Also the way they run! Finding a big spider somewhere all of sudden is already scary enough, but then when you touch it with something and it runs away all fast and creepy... And when you need to kill it and you push something onto it and you hear that krrrchrr sound... brrrr.

They stay up high, in the corners. I don't think they would ever come down. I don't keep clothes in my closet anyway. It's full of other things.

I remember there was a spider in the corner on my room, right above my bed. It was actually kind of nice knowing he was there, just sitting there in his web. No idea where he went.

Dunno what's so bad about spiders, especially daddy long legs. It's not like they're going to hurt me. They help keep me safe, if anything.

That's the best way of controlling their population.

When I first moved into my house there were webs on every ceiling corner and spiders everywhere. After a years of killing every one of them on sight I now only see a spider once every three months, if that. Feels good man.

Natural selection isn't magic. Spiders' nervous systems are reasonably small nervous systems. They would have a very very long way to go to reach the nervous systems of mammals or even those of reptilia - millions and millions of years, and even then, some simpler organisms would still survive.
This is a "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" sort of argument.

I seldom see spiders in my house, but when I do, I just grab them and throw though a window if it's warm season, cause they will probably just starve at home. If it is winter I don't throw them out, since they will freeze to death and it is not like there is any prey at this time of year.

Actually, Spiders have very centralized and large nervous systems, the largest of any arthropods.

You're kind of stupid to be comparing mammals and anthropods nervous systems in the first place, as most mammals don't have centralized nervous systems and thus have neurotransmitters that take a split second to relay information and dampen that information so you aren't perpetually feeling crazy shit.

But anyway spiders. Yeah, when it comes to their nervous system, spiders are really high tier. Spiders can feel the tiniest of vibrations. It's how jumping spiders hunt, actually.

Why would a spider crawl into the wet mouth that's effectively roaring at them so much their world is shaking? Easy, they wouldn't. Because that's an urban legend.

They may have it pretty well for arthropods, but they hardly compare to reptilia or anything that descended from them. Although, I suppose some Octopuses are also pretty advanced.

Either way, I suppose natural selection could have selected against spiders entering the mouths of larger animals by making them averse to some chemical markers (bad "smell"), although I'd be surprised if any spider would be capable of properly identifying over time large patterns such as humans - it just takes a much larger and complex nervous system to be able to do that.

I'm in the Southwestern US. The worst spiders I've seen on my property were black widows. They kept to themselves in the garage though.
