There have been threads like this for years. But after reading this post, this was the first time it's ever felt like it really could all come to an end.

I can't believe with how shitty I've felt about this period of my life where I've spent most of my free time reading about or playing Touhou... that I'm actually going to miss a part of it. But then again, how could Touhou last forever? Nothing does, and Touhou's no exception.There'll probably be people who try to keep it up for years after ZUN gives it up, but ultimately, once ZUN goes, the majority of artists will go with him, and it'll just be people fighting for scraps of whatever new content niche artists and doujinka release.

It seemed like it could have gone on forever, couldn't it? With how big Touhou has gotten, it seemed like it was only going to get bigger, brighter and better. For all we know, TD is going to be the last major Touhou game. ZUN is 34 years old. He's probably going to have kids soon, and when that happens, there's no way he'll have the time to work on a game, and I can't imagine it would have nearly the amount of detail games like PCB or IN had. Based on what I've seen in UFO and TD, and even from MOF and SA, I get the feeling ZUN has been losing his passion for the games themselves. Who knows, maybe he just keeps turning out games out of pity for the community. With all of the licensing money he makes from merchandise, I can't imagine he ever needs to work a regular job to support himself again.

All good things must come to an end. Maybe Touhou's time is coming soon. Maybe it's something worth getting depressed over, but just think... before you found Touhou, you had no idea how much you would have liked Touhou. Who's to say you won't find something you like even more in the future?

ZUN would have stopped eventually. I just don't see why it's necessarily going to be now.

Not necessarily, the thing that's been keeping the series alive was the fan content. Yeah yell secondary as much as you want you know it was Comiket all along that made Touhou into what it is.

There are communities like Doom, Knytt, Mario World, classic Sonic that still survive solely on fan content, and they are doing pretty well, actually doing better than their own creators in some ways.

At worst, we'll have to resort to play games and hear songs based off the anime flavor of the month, or vocaloid characters. Fuck.

For all you know she's actually a huge Touhou fan and is helping with the games. I don't think anyone should go out with someone who forces you to compromise to that extent, but unfortunately society, both western and eastern tends to look down on dropping geeky hobbies as a given - it's not just guys too, girls who keep collecting ponies, lolitas etc. tend to be depicted very badly and treated on the level of crazy cat ladies.

I don't think ZUN will give in that easily to social conservatism. While the audience was primarily male, there were still probably enough fangirls/cosplayers who'd go out with him so there's a good chance she's one of them.

I used to be excited about growing up. When I was a kid I looked forward to the day when I'd stop watching cartoons or playing videogames and take an active interest in going to clubs or whatever normalfag adults do.

I'm in my 20s and it has yet to happen.

It's always been inevitable, waifu or not. Touhou was fun while it lasted, but nothing is forever.

Personally, I feel like touhou already hit its peak a while back. UFO was just bad in pretty much every way possible, and 10D was kind of boring. It wasn't bad per se, it just felt bland and unoriginal, right down to ripping hyper mode straight from DOJ. GFW was actually a really fun and refreshing game, despite my initial expectations that it would just be pandering to secondaries, but it was extremely short and light on content. SA was really the last good integer game we got, and that was almost 4 years ago.

Though I'm really interested in seeing comiket deflate practically overnight when the touhou bubble finally pops.

No, social conservatism ruins everything. People make the assumption that "Oh I'm married now, I have kids now, I can't do these things". ZUN has been living with this girl since IN though, and MoF and SA were still pretty good games(though I found their difficulty to be more disjointed) and gave us some of the best, most posted characters.

It's no surprise that in countries like Japan, so many men are giving up on real women entirely. This is the next stage in our technological evolution. If women still exist in 500 years' time, it'll only be be because of political/ethical drama.

So, what will the doujin circles move on to when touhou is busted? Is there anything out there that could potentially rival touhou's popularity as enough people get tired of touhou and want to move over to something else, or will they all just split up into many less popular franchises? Or perhaps touhou will just live on through doujin works regardless of particular events, its waning popularity being so gradual that it's barely noticeable?

I'm just going to point out before some faggot blames everything relationship related on Feminists again, that the examples in horror stories with the wife throwing out expensive figures, etc. are nearly always the traditional types. They may have taken part of some fucked up version of feminism on top of that, but they are nearly always looking for a traditional type relationship.

Over the past few weeks I've been watching a ton of random videos and it's surprising how normals can "double think" or just accept being wrong, or at least not having to be the last man standing. Very intelligent people who know a lot about a subject can speak calmly to people who are wrong about it, and not get sucked into an argument about how wrong they are. And it's not just being a passive, pussy bitch, people can just avoid conflict.

Well, I have a story to share with you.

The next day, he wasn't at school, he was back in Japan, and I never got to thank him, for saving my life and showing me the light. I soon learned that he was an Aikidoka and have been practicing Aikido ever since to show my thanks to him.

First because nonsuperficial traits take no more time to evolve than superficial traits. See Henry Harpending's research on this, he illustrates how a 1 SD difference in a hypothetical trait, with a lower additive heritability than intelligence, could evolve in 500 years.

How about birds,bats, and flying squirrels. Let's step this up one notch, bees, wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets. Through genetic mutations, their wings could look similar, but that doesn't mean they are even made of the same things.
