That's a really weird use of the word since a buzzword is a clearly defined word used out of context to someone not familiar with the original meaning for an ulterior motive. But while "fun" has a clearly defined meaning, what is experienced as fun is entirely subjective. Basically saying that something is "fun" means "it's fun to me, not necessarily to everyone else", which is basically admitting you have no general point. Thus "fun" can't be a buzzword because, while it's an unquestionable statement, it can't be used for an ulterior motive - saying that something is fun is basically forfeiting whatever point you were trying to make.
But seeing the context you mentioned there, it appears the attempt to establish "fun" as a buzzword is rooted in a general inability to understand or accept that people have different interests and that personal enjoyment, being personal, is not measurable or comparable.
