Yukari's power is on the verge of god-like, but still not definitely there yet. Akyu's article in PMiSS puts it into perspective. And we already know that Yukari can manipulate the border of concepts through various mentionables such as the establishment of Gensokyo's illusory existence, and her suggestion in SSiB about lunar travel using the reflection of the full moon.

Yuka's story is mired with the retcon so we don't know how much of it to believe; and, her ability to make flowers grow sounds just as silly as its conceptual suggestion is lethal (see Chado).

Touhous don't use their full power because doing so would threaten Gensokyo itself would bring the Hakurei Shrine Maiden down upon you in full force. Youkai happen to like Gensokyo the way it is and when it comes down to it Reimu has been kicking most of their asses with or without the spellcard system, her hax being completely immunity when shit really hits the fan.

Instead they all get to use their powers to a limited extent because a Youkai that can't use it's powers will eventually lose them, so they set up the spell card system to allow them to use their powers in a beautiful and structured way for duelling so they could fight the Shrine Maiden without threatening the world they live in and give weaker opponents a chance to defeat them.

Of course, limitations removed, I'd assume Flandre's power will work on anything that can die or be physically destroyed. Hourai elixir bitches would be utterly destroyed but their souls are effectively indestructible and will return them eventually to their former states, it doesn't change the likelihood she can just keep blowing them up until they are both bored seeing as Flandre is all around hax strong/tough, but the point is I imagine her power wouldn't permanently destroy them because of the nature of the drug.

Others possibly could be killed by her, but all the powerful ones are smarter and have their own abilities. Yukari for example seems to only fight when she wants to and even when she looses it's JUST AS PLANNED or seems to achieve whatever was best for Gensokyo anyway. Yuyuko is a ghost, I don't even know what happens when you destroy that.

Also, this is ZUN. Most the powers are entirely for flavour, Flan's is no exception. It'll never come up in it's entirety and instead she's meant to be a small package of death and destruction everyone fears because of her instability.

Yukari's border control is a plot device with varying power; it's limits are unknown and will never fully be defined but the flavour of it suggests she can do anything she wants with it. For story purposes she'll use it from time to time but mostly for minor things like annoying Reimu and keeping the Great Border in check.

Half the Touhous have crazy ass flavour powers. They do get used in the games to a extent, I really like how ZUN incorporates some of them into the mechanics of both the shoot'em ups and fighting games, Sakuya being the best example of this. She really does stop time in both.

Some powers translate better then others, those that don't are just meant to add 'that bitch is scary' factor. Given how strong Youkai started at, the biggest badest bitches need obscene powers and crazy mentalities to have that effect.

That's actually mentioned in her Memento entry, China is a all around reasonable Youkai, her powers to duel using the spell card system are seen as average, but she's also a exceptional martial artist otherwise to the point it's said really good at fighting humans in a normal capacity.

I like the addition they add to that. Challenging Meilin to a fight is safe, she enjoys it and so long as you don't try and enter the mansion without permission she's friendly. So locals who want to prove their strength constantly challenge her and occasionally Remilia will watch and enjoy these fights.

Oh okay then. I was just in a process of making a fictional work about Meilin being weak because she greatly restricted her powers. She wanted to appear weaker than Remilia because she doesn't want to be seen as a threat and get banished. Just wondering the plausibility of this.

Only in fanfiction, Meilin has no huge weaknesses as such like some of the other low level Youkai (Chen for example can be distracted easily with Catnip, or you can use water to remove her Shikigami powers making her a much weaker Youkai) she's just all around reasonable.

But compared to the rest of the girls in the Mansion, she only really has a slight melee/health advantage against Patchy, but Patchy makes up for it with extremely powerful magic. Sakuya is strong enough people don't even think she's human and is all around strong and loyal. Remilia is a vampire, she's strong, tough can regenerate and blasts as good as anyone with a hax power to boot.

Meilin is just best suited for her job, even if she's not always attentive about it.

To a degree, yes. Still it's the closest to extra information short of more profiles we're going to get about the Touhous. I wouldn't entirely trust her theories, but some of the power descriptions seem close.

For example, she and most the villages think it's most likely she was a vampire hunter in her former life because her knifes are silver. They don't know this to be true but think it's the most plausible possibility that Remilia defeated her outside of Gensokyo before she came around and changed her fate so she would become her maid. It could be completely wrong, we don't know because part of the fun is to let the audience work its own ideas out (and leaves ZUN with less work so he can drink and program games).
