Why are english speakers so lazy?

This is not meant to be offensive but they have had vocaloids longer than anyone and they still leech onto Japanese vocaloids and producers yet complain when english producers and vocaloids don't get recognition.

Hell Korea and Spanish speakers are creating more than the english speakers have on there first year and China is gearing up for their first release.

Though english speakers (mostly americans) buy much of the vocaloid music they don't create why is this?Is it a cultural thing?

Americans are brought up in a consumer culture. Buying or using stuff that is premade and not making it yourself is commonplace.

>> No.8619392

If you're just talking about songs in English, the problem is two-fold. First most English speakers into Vocaloid are weebs. And second, Japanese is particularly well suited to voice generation because of the limited phoneme set and mora structure of words. English phonetics are a shitton more complicated and harder to make not sound like shit.

>> No.8619415

A lot of stuff in this thread is right but also, the English language is based on inflection unlike the Japanese language which is meant to be monotone, this fits the robotic vocaloids better, in English it would sound terrible ( not that it dosen't sound off in Japanese from time to time too )

The average american (as in not a 4channer or weeaboo, geek you name it) doesn't even know they exist and would laugh it off as some chidish thing if they did.

It comes down to things thaat are popular somewhere not being popular in another culture.

>> No.8619447

>>8619415

Inflection isn't really the issue. Japanese has inflection too. I think you're thinking about stress, which is completely irregular in English. It all falls under phonetics though.

Just compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_phonetics#Phonemes
to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_phonology#Consonants

Japanese is one of the most sound poor languages still spoken today. Also keep in mind that Japanese functions syllabically as opposed to on an individual phoneme basis for word formation, which further minimizes the number of possible sound combinations. All of this makes it much easier to generate artificially.

I feel that Vocaloid software has always sounded bad in English. It just isn't worth using in your music if you want English vocals IMO.

The nature of this language makes it harder to synthesize I guess. I also feel this is why they're talking 100 years to come out with the official English Miku.

>> No.8619603

>>8619586

Yeah, but compared to Japanese it requires an inordinate amount of work and skill to get to just "okay" –– that's why you don't see a lot of work in English. Plus, they don't have the same following in general and no one wants to work with vocaloids who have no characters or fanbase really.

And then most English speakers can't speak Japanese (or at least not well enough to write a song) so they're kind of boned unless they want to toil in obscurity with the English vocaloids to get to an end product that is "okay." I think it's obvious why there isn't much appeal there.

>> No.8619632

You know work is needed for japanese vocaloid as well "Freely Tommorow" is an example of what hard work gives.

Also many english vocaloids have characters.(Sonika,Ann,Al,Oliver,Tonio)

>> No.8619645

>>8619632

Yeah, obviously, hence "comparatively." You can make an "okay" sounding song with a Japanese vocaloid with pretty minimal effort. To get anything that's even remotely workable in English takes a lot more work.

And yeah, they may have characters but no one gives a shit about them.

>> No.8619707

>>8619675

Look, it's not worth trying for most people because 1) it's a lot harder 2) they will get minimal recognition 3) the English vocaloids are simply not as "fun" because there isn't as much of a following around them and there's less opportunity to participate in the wider community as a result.

Look, if you feel like that sounds rewarding enough go for it. But most people aren't going to invest that much time in something that ultimately won't sound that good (at least not as good as if you'd put a comparable amount of time into a Japanese vocaloid) and won't get any real recognition at all.

>> No.8619717

This is one of my most replied threads yet I wonder why?

I post most of the vocaloid things on /jp/ and I have rarely gotten more than 5 replies most of the time.

>> No.8619734

>>8619717

Well, I mean, it is a major factor too. If they were easier to use than the Japanese ones, or even just the same level of difficulty (though, that's not really possible considering linguist issues, but for the sake of argument) I'm sure they'd have more of a following since more people would be willing to give them a chance.

But, I mean, just think about it, if in like 20 minutes of messing with a vocaloid to start out with, you might get something that sounds at least vaguely encouraging from Miku vs. something really unappealing with one of the English vocaloids. Wouldn't you be more inclined to keep going with Miku in that case? If something's too hard, it scares newbies away right away, and then once people get more skilled most tend to get kind of set in their ways and not want to explore the other options unless they have a particular reason to.

I really agree but even the best Vocaloid users (like the stuff by that guy in that first link) can only make the English versions just sound "okay". Meanwhile it sounds awesome in Japanese or even Korean when you put in enough work. So awesome that you could make a career out of making Vocaloid music if you're good enough.

It's just a limitation of the software IMO. With its current sound English vocaloids are just a novelty and barely anyone (either creators or listeners) takes it seriously. Which sucks because I would like to see everyone take it seriously and make good songs with English vocals like HELL with it.

But personally I just want to make cheesy rock and metal covers with Miku.

That white haired miku is cuter anyway.

I just want false voice software to advance to the point that I can have my computer talk to me and sound halfway natural. Miku doesn't have the vocal range to match even Japanese, with its much simpler range of sounds, without sounding artificial.
