If one were to dislike a character, one wouldn't have to defend them in any way and instead search for another character that fits their criteria for ''likeable''.

Another thing is to read into the characters as much as one can, should there be enough info, that character has bigger chances of becoming ''likeable'' to that person. Popular misconceptions however, often fall in the categories of, well, the likes of you.
