I've been trying to get EoSD to run on my Ubuntu laptop lately. Whenever I run the game through Wine all I get is a blank screen, but I can hear all the music and sounds. (Although if I try and go through the menu and play the game, I can still see the powerup bar accumulating on the otherwise black screen).

Like I said, my distro is Ubuntu. Version of Wine is 1.2. I already used Winetricks to install DirectX9. Back when I had Vista on this laptop EoSD and every other Touhou ran completely fine.

Am I missing something?

Make a windows partition.

Install Gentoo.

>> No.8578475

Try it in windowed. Graphics systems treat fullscreen funny and a lot of things don't work. Run thxx_custom.exe and you can change it to windowed there.
After that, just run wine thxx.exe and it should work. Every integer game works perfectly and has for a while.

I've actually tried both! And I tried minimal graphics and a bunch of other stuff as well.

Then you're doing it wrong nerd.
I had some troubles with the original EoSD (though that one texture mod worked okay). Try PCB onwards. EoSD is terrible.

use winecfg and emulate a virtual desktop in graphics tab, set it to 1024x768 or so and it should be working without problems

or at least i remember IN working just fine

Not him, but fuck you. Exclamation marks are fun if used sparingly and they made his post more exciting to read. It wasn't just, "I. Have. Actually. Tried. Both." like some autistic /jp/ robot, he was all, "Hey man, I've actually tried both!" This is one cool and friendly guy who isn't afraid to express himself.

You go be an aspie elsewhere, sperglord.

It runs completely fine in my setup, Wine 1.4 + winetricks, using this guide:

>Back when I had Vista on this laptop EoSD and every other Touhou ran completely fine.
Well, that's obvious, Touhou was made for Windows. The fact that Touhou runs in Linux is a miracle made possible by Wine developers.

Do you have your graphic drivers installed? nVidia? ATI? Intel?

Well, that was just dispel any possible "Maybe your laptop is just too shitty" arguments really.

But according to System Info my drivers are installed. Intel 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2.

Maybe they're not up to date?

No I don't think a laptop can be too shitty to play Touhou.

- Can you play other OpenGL games or applications? Like Quake?
- What's the output of "glxinfo | grep Direct"? (If you get command not found run "sudo apt-get install mesa-utils")

>> No.8578592

Run "wine touhous.exe" from a command-line (stop being a loser nerd wannabe) and tell us the output. A few FIXMEs are normal.

direct rendering: Yes

Actually now that I think about it, whenever I run it from the command line I get a ton of d3d errors. Is Direct3D not enabled for some reason?

Try disabling desktop effects (compiz) if you have them enabled, or try another version of wine, or another touhou.

>> No.8578617

Get a newer version of Wine; 1.2 is old and busted.

After that, try running in a window rather than fullscreen (if you haven't already).

Ubuntu user here. Your version of Wine is too old. I can run EoSD fine, windowed or fullscreen, using Wine 1.3.28. I'd recommend that.

They call latest versions "beta" because they haven't tested them well, but they usually work better except for a few regressions.
