Why the hell would we need an otaku culture board?

>> No.8561457

He's mentioned this before.
Basically, because the silly /v/irgins want it. Rather than moderating better and getting people to condense their threads (and not make shit ones about being forever alone), he just gives /v/ faggots anything they want because it's his favorite board.

Look at how many stupid board jokes they've had over the past week or two alone. Like, TWO.

>> No.8561461

Because /v/ is a bunch of babbies, and moot can't be fucked to hire good mods over his normalfag friends. So instead of actually fixing the problem he's just giving into them.

You're fucking retarded if you think Macs should get their own board, although a /fag/ board would be pretty cool so we can keep the pony retards out of our boards.

Mac vs PC threads should be considered as troll threads and nothing else. The OS/text editor/browser/video card wars is something that defines /g/ and shouldn't be taken as trolls, that's how we used to be.

Putting that theme aside, it's because of faggots helping /v/ with their gaming rigs that /g/ went to shit. Fuck I liked that board.

Then that's a problem with the userbase. I haven't been to /g/ properly in years, but I lurked there a few months ago and there was a guy called "Macfag" who made an "ask me anything" thread. It had over 200 replies from people who simply had to flame him and bash Apple or whatever. I'm not a fan of Apple or its products, but a few teenagers getting butthurt about people posting about something they dislike when it's board-related is NOT cause for a new board.

Tell people to lurk more and take it easy. If it helps, read through some old Usenet FAQs and try to regain a feel for what netiquette truly is. You're a technology board, you should be the best at this stuff.

I've always thought this. There's overlap between the two--there's no denying that--but look at websites like 4-ch. Separating anime and manga works really well, and you can have parallel threads running that reference each other (may not work so well for a board that purges though).

/jp/ is always going to be the wildcard board of 4chan. In fact, talking about what belongs and /jp/ and why /jp/ is so shitty has always been part of /jp/ culture.

I used to hate flanfly and chubby.jpg. But it's been here for so long that nobody can deny that it's an integral part of /jp/. I can guarantee you that at least half of this board population missed the most exciting time of the day when 4chan was down.

Anyway, I suggest the following changes to this board. Renaming it to:

/jp/ - /jp/ Culture

and updating the rules:

1. All things /jp/ welcome!

In a good way though. Sometimes /jp/ is kind of annoying, especially when everyone is being ironic or spammy, but overall I'd say we're elitist in a very good way that other boards need to learn from. People make VN threads in /a/ and /v/ because we suck and we're not friendly and whatever. If people can't be bothered to lurk and learn how /jp/ works, they don't deserve to post. It's as simple as that.

As a resident /v/irgin who sometimes visits /jp/, I can safely say that moderation isn't going to do anything for the board.

Too many people go to /v/ for it to be practically modded, and if the shitposters get mad, they'll go up and arms about it. Very much pic related.

What /v/ needs is less traffic, which more INTERESTING boards can accomplish. Of course we wouldn't even need that if /b/ would stop flooding into /v/, since /b/ is going waaay to fast.

I see user moderation being brought up, and unfortunately, it's just not practical, there are at least 10 shitposters for every 1 person who wants to clean up /v/

Self moderation can work on smaller boards, like /jp/ because the community doesn't have such a diverse mindset, where /v/ has a diverse mindset, and even the ones who HAVE gathered opinions on how to clean up /v/ have incredibly varied thoughts on it.

So an E-sports board would be fine. It's hard to get any real video game discussion done when all you see are E-sports and shitposting.

As for /jp/....well I haven't been here in the last two months, so I can't comment on the state of it, unfortunately.

We need a weeaboo board that isn't /jp/. Why?

- There is a significant "learn Japanese thread" community on 4chan, distributed throughout /jp/, /a/, and /lang/. This can be condensed.
- Japanese cuisine can never be discussed on /ck/ without massive weeaboo callouts.
- /lang/ is too slow for the small translation request threads.
- Likewise, /trv/ is too slow for "I'm in Japan help me" threads.
- Having a weeaboo board would contain all of the weeaboos into that board, like /soc/ did. I'm sure /jp/ would immediately see the benefit in that.

That is difficult considering how there aren't many /v/eterans left. A lot of them stopped going to the board all together or, like me, simply show up for two or three threads during the day, and wait till the kiddies go to sleep to have some real discussions going.

If we had been able to start this trend a couple years ago, things might be different, but wow, we certainly did not see this coming.

>With each influx of new users, instead of shaping them in accord to the board culture, /v/ absorbs their faggotry and turns shittier and shittier.

The problem with this lies in the fact that /v/ culture is simply rage. The problem is that this can't be explained properly, as many users today take rage as a sign of "epic trolled xd."

We prefer (sage) Report and Hide. The method you described only promotes shitposting.

There reason behind this is Tripfags, most of them simply want attention, so even responding with a sage will simply promote them to bump their own topic, the only thing for it is to Report it and Hide it, and never respond to it.

However it seems that 95% of /v/ isn't even aware of the report feature, and respond to shitposting, even worse, without a sage.

I forgot to mention, in my first post >>8562155 the report thing as well. See, you are giving them attention, yes, but it's the negative kind and, as much as they'd like you to believe they enjoy it anyway, they don't. It makes it even worse for them when the thread, full of bile and sage, ends up 404'ing thanks to a janitor/mod.

I know sage isn't an insult, but it's underlying effect hurts people's feelings. The kind of people 4chan shouldn't harbour.

>> No.8562241

WE NEED A PHILOSOPHY BOARD

>> No.8562245 [DELETED]

I still laugh at how 4chan doesn't understand what sage means.

If only I knew moon so I wouldn't have to spend time on a board that imports foreign concepts and then DOES IT WRONG all the time.

Using sage as a way to "insult" someone's post or thread is just completely wrong and a retarded misuse of a good feature that is so popular in sites like 2ch and Futaba. Fuck, iichan and 4-ch do it right. It's just 4chan and 4chan's lame knockoffs that fail at using sage.

The true meaning of sage means that YOUR POST isn't worthy enough to bump the thread. It's ironic, because you think that you're insulting others while you're just, in fact, insulting yourself. Yes, sage can be used when posting a derogatory comment in a thread that you don't want to bump, but posting with just the word "sage" accomplishes nothing but contribute to spamming the board. The trend of replying with the name of a tripfag and sage is even worse, as it accomplishes nothing and only serves to increase the e-penis of whoever you're "attacking".

The sage feature was never meant to serve as an implied insult or general disagreement! Why people started using it that way is beyond me. There are plenty of reasons why one would choose not to bump a thread with his reply. For example, bumping threads with stupid one liner replies should be discouraged and those people should be coerced into using sage instead.

I want to use sage, yet I almost never do it on 4chan because people will jump on me thinking I'm insulting their post or something.

thanks op, she is hot bitch in porn, i cum so hard while hurtling through space toward a decommissioned space station. slowly, i pull my knees to my chest and close my eyes as my bowels begin to expel hundreds upon hundreds of beautiful, symmetrical turds, brown as the day is long. i laugh like a young girl as my turds drift aimlessly behind me; they are as butterflies to a child frolicking in the fields of elysium.

i approach the station's docking port, flaccid cock in hand, and prepare to float gently into its inviting confines. i extend my cockless arm jubilantly, as to celebrate the majesty and depth of space, and thank jesus christ for this ultimate gift and blessing. but suddenly, my outstretched arm collides with the outer rim of the docking port, and the trajectory of my quaggy body is violently halted.

the fates afford me barely enough time to turn my head before the turds arrive. one thousand turds, each one seemingly larger than the last. i try in vain to cleanse my eyes of the shitsting, but succeed only in smearing my own fecal matter into a fine asspaste, which slowly seeps into my eyes and nasal cavity. i inhale three hundred and twenty four Space Turds; my lungs are permeated completely with my own shit. i hang lax, spirit broken, defeated by poop. i will never be the same. i am forever a shit faggot.

I believe you shouldn't underestimate Aikido. Now I know you may be thinking, "Why take a weakling martial art like Aikido seriously when I am learning Kendo?" I can see why you would think that, how can a peaceful martial arts like Aikido beat a powerful one like Kendo?

Well, I have a story to share with you.

Years ago, I was a Kendoka, I thought I was the toughest kid in high school, I would pick fights, and kick ass. I was full of hate, until I picked a fight with the wrong dude. He was a Japanese exchange student, I still remember his name, Noboru Takeda.

I picked on him because of his hilarious and thick Japanese accent. I told him I was going to beat him so hard, he would go back to China(Yeah, I was a little racist prick.), he never said anything back, made me wanted to kick his ass even harder.

Well, here comes the fight. I threw men and do strikes, he dodged them like I was a mere white belt. I was tiring out and he knew, I saw the smirk on his face that made me raged hard. I put all my strength in one amazing tsuki, and he grabbed past it to my wrist and threw me over. My back smacked on the hard cement ground, and I was knocked out for who knows how long.

When I woke up I was in the school infirmary, I asked the nurse who brought me here, and you guessed it, Noboru Takeda. The next day, he wasn't at school, he was back in Japan, and I never got to thank him, for saving my life and showing me the light. I soon learned that he was an Aikidoka and have been practicing Aikido ever since to show my thanks to him.

Not him, but I genuinely do enjoy negative attention. If I'm bored or upset I'll make shit/troll threads and the replies I enjoy the most are the ones where people try to be all mature. In fact, here's a list from my most enjoyable to least enjoyable replies:
* Mature, lengthy posts describing what I did wrong or whatever. The more effort, the better.
* Ironic replies where people "pretend" to be mad or upset, but the extra irony just makes it more delicious.
* People genuinely getting upset.
* "Autistic" replies (as if they were written by an autistic person, not whatever /jp/ thinks "autistic" means).
* "sage", "reported", etc.
* No replies at all.

The fact is, the only way to win with trolls is to not give them any sort of attention. What's great is that everyone knows this, but you continue to feed us anyway.

Its lunch, I went to my favourite sandwich shop, got a delicious veal sandwich and was on my way back home. There was this thuggish "Nigga" style black dude, he was behind me, I stopped, because he was walking quite fast, and I didn't want to be in his way.
He comes up to me, and asked, “Do you have any money?”, I knew where he was going with this, so I said, “Yeah, but you’re not getting any of it.”, and I walked away. I suppose it’s in his blood, he was going to punch the back of my head but I quickly grabbed and threw him over my shoulder, he fell down and became unconscious. I checked if he had any drugs/money, found cocaine in his jacket and called the cops.
I guess it wasn’t really a fight since it lasted less than 10 seconds, it really shows how effective Aikido is in real life situations.
It feels good to help the police catch drug dealers/druggies.

As opposed to the billions of NEET/Hikki blog threads on /jp?

Stay mad, autist.

That's because people hardly make them. I have to go out of my way to create threads for stuff like that or SMT. There's literally the same guy everyday waiting for me to make an SMT thread (PHG or something, forgot the exact name).

Well to be fair, we care deeply about video games, and /v/eterans will tell you that CoD is a poison to the industry.

The true essence of /v/ isn't "stop having fun" it's "Stop having fun at the expense of the industry."

Buying CoD for it's 60 USD price tag only promotes the effort that was put into it, slightly updated graphics, poor story, and a poor game in general, which in turn, tells the developers that consumers aren't looking for "quality" as much as they are whatever CoD brings to the table.

Why are people discussing /v/ in this thread? Take that shit to /v/.

Then fucking ignore those threads if they ever pop up. Hide them if you can.

And it's hardly just COD that /v/ shitposts on.

Grand strategy and Dark souls are literally there on a permanent basis. They last for 12 hours only to be up again the moment they die.

I believe you shouldn't underestimate Aikido..

We really need a martial arts board, actually.

Closest we have is /fit/ but that's just about lifting, none of them know shit about anything else and scoff at actually training for anything other than aesthetics.

I find if funny that you still can hate /a/ when sometimes I have to check the browser title to know if I'm on /jp/ or /a/.

But anyway, we don't need more boards. Throughout its days, /jp/ has been about: Touhou (games and related), imagedumps, VNs (translated and untranslated), idols, doujin games, doujin music, Comikets, Light Novels, the occasional discussion about Japanese otakus and daily doses like Japanese bird.

We just need a mod who can keep it that way, while deleting unrelated shit like drama, blogging, anime and obvious offtopic shit like "I want to suck a cock".

>> No.8562603

Why does moot have a hard on for stop gap measures? Can't he think of anything more permanent?

>> No.8563083

Making a separate Touhou board is probably one of the least thought-out answers to fixing /jp/ I've seen in this thread. For starters, Touhou is very much /jp/ related, and there's nothing wrong with it being here. What is wrong is all the shitposting associated with Touhou (e.g. witch 2hu u ____, Sanae is a slut, image dumps). Here's the thing, though. Shitposters are going to shitpost regardless. If moderation suddenly decides that Touhou is bannable and it's not worth modem power cycling/finding a new proxy for shitposters then we'll just see more inane garbage like madoka a shit, suck my cock dude, and so on. Removing an actual board-related topic isn't going to solve a thing.
