Too many children lack social skills: teacher

>I am an elementary teacher in my 30th year of teaching.
>Sadly to say, over the past decade, the children are more challenging to teach.
>Today’s teachers are spending a disproportionate amount of time teaching social skills, manners and appropriate behaviour.
>In many instances, a lack of parenting or poor social skills translate to inappropriate behaviour inside the classroom and/or outside on the playground. During playground supervision, too many students have to be repeatedly asked to follow the rules. Yet, far too often they want to “negotiate” the established parameters instead of doing what they are told.
