EE sucks. It's like all they blew all their budget on GRAFICS and disregarded everything else that would hold an mmo together. Camera is weird and wonky as shit. The skill effects, feeling of impact and general production quality is extremely low. As expected of chinese created MMO. There's really nothing going for it, just a timesink for the sake of being a timesink. They don't even try to disguise it and that's the worst part.

I know I'm being too picky, but all I want is a MMO (or any kind of RPG, really) where I can be a realistic looking little girl. My problem with most MMOs is that the little girls in them look like deformed midgets with gigantic thighs and huge heads. See Tera and Dragon Nest. And the rest just use a chibi style which is OK I guess but not ideal.
so far the only exception I've found is SMT: Imagine. It's not a bad game, and it has a pretty cool story that fits between SMT I and II, and you can customize your female character's age and make her look younger than those around her. It also has a lot of post apocalyptic gear to wear which is great.

This is why I'm so excited about PSO2. Have you seen some of the screens of the character creator? It looks amazing. I just can't wait.
I've never paid full price for a MMO, much less a monthly fee, and this might be the first time.

I'm going to start playing Mabinogi after I finish dealing with Nexon's bullshit.

Rift felt like that for me when I first played it.
I was just walking along gathering some herbs, when a fog horn blows and this demonic voice was like "bwahaha I will cover this land in darkness"
Pretty soon there was mobs ever where and portals opening up in the sky.
Tons of players were appearing from no where to help fight the invasion.

That's the best time I ever had on an mmo.
Unfortunately, it was kinda like a drug, you spend the rest of the game trying to get that initial rush back, but it's never quite the same

The game itself is kinda meh, but the pvp, oh god the fucking pvp is so anally frustrating, you have no idea.

I love it, the archer class is especially fun to play because she frustrates the hell out of everyone.

I've been playing JP Tera since its release. I originally had 8 other people from 4chan to play with, but they all stopped a few months ago. I also took a break for a couple months due to lack of funds, but I started back up again and found 2 more players from 4chan. Unfortunately they live across the world, so I've still mostly just been playing with Japanese people, but I see them every once and a while past midnight or before noon. To answer the other half of the question though, I prefer grinding alone to the regular quests. I really only like partying up if it's too hard, if there's an elite-killing quest, or I have to do an instanced dungeon.

Also I want to sit. On props. Pirate King did it, why can't anyone else? All mmos should allow you to sit and lean on anything.

Dragon Nest is okay... but severely pvp oriented. No matter what anyone tells you about it being pve oriented, it's not. Level caps come really slow, and there's some misc things to do too. Though there's a lot of pvp modes and people waste their time on them. End game raids take a lot of $$ to even survive against. Don't need any money to just cap and pvp though. Game is real buggy though. Some classes can abuse iframes really hard.

I just started playing Lineage 2 now that it's free to play a couple days ago. I'm surprised how dumbed down they made it.

there are two hong kongers from /jp/ that i played elsword TW with since early 2010 which was shortly after when this localized version released

NA version came out in Q1 2011 so it's still very unpolished.

I did want to share though that I've been declining all the guild invites I get in hopes of making a /jp/ guild in the future, but I haven't even looked at the process for it. I doubt I'd make a good guild leader, but I know someone has to take that step and I will once I figure out what it requires.

I'm still waiting for Divina's US/English release. I'm really looking forward to pouring hours into that game just because of the cute character models.

Sea DN has tournaments. NA doesn't have any server hosted ones. Players make their own. When NA gets the 50 cap, once you cap, if you don't have good enough gears to do the end-games raids (which will pretty much one shot you anyways if you don't have +12 epic 40s) all there is to do is pvp. Not saying that it isn't fun though. It just sucks Mystics and Sharp Shooters became complete shit. But eh, Eyedentity a shit.

Eden Eternal was fun, but it was too depressing to go through again after the beta. The grind just kept getting worse, but that's normal. There was just nobody to go through it with after a while.

Being able to switch classes any time was really nice though. I just wish there was more to do. Or at least a group to play with so I wouldn't have had to start going through it alone so fast.

Tera isn't going to be the next big thing. It's going to fall on its face as soon as people realize it WoW with an aiming cursor.

The important thing to note is this: it's WoW, but it takes more physical effort to accomplish the same menial tasks. You are putting more effort into accomplishing the same things. There is nothing exceptional here at all regarding the gameplay. It's touted at a revolutionary action MMO, but it's "action" is outshone by countlesss free MMOs, not to mention action RPGs like Monster Hunter.

The exceptional part of Tera is how beautiful the game world is. That and the PVP will probably be amazing.

Maybe people want to try more so they don't get bored. Take a look at EE for a really good/bad comparison. EE is practically 100% automated. Rightclicking a quest brings you to the location and brings you to the npc. Hitting a skill while targetting something walks you straight into range and use the skill, tab targets everything around you regardless of where you're facing. You could literally make a looping macro, go to a random field, and set it off and come back an hour later and have several levels and items under your belt. You don't even need a fucking bot program.

EE is automated wow, and that's why it's awful.

Wow is pretty balanced when it comes to player effort and automization. I really hate how it became a minigame queue, but there are just some things that can't be helped.

Tera is wow but with more effort required on the player's part, which may make it a much bigger success than EE can ever hope to have a fraction of.

I think the biggest problem is WoW hit the effort/non-effort ratio just about perfectly. When you mess with this ratio you get things like EE, which is painfully boring, and you get things like Tera, which, at least I think, many people will feel takes too much effort to play.

The other issue with increasing the effort required is you are moving towards an area dominated by -real- action RPG/MMOs, something that Tera isn't. And these games are certainly much more "actiony" than Tera.

But who knows, that's just my opinion. I really can't see Tera doing any better than the countless other games that come and go. And there certainly isn't a user support base behind Tera that can carry the game, as should have been seen in other effort-skewed MMOs such as the various super hero MMOs.

Level 36 on KR Tera right now. This game is everything I wanted in one, and I can't read shit. The gameplay is so smooth and questing is seamless, soloing monsters is actually worthwhile and very engaging. I play with about 5-6 more people, and duoing monsters is just as amazing. So is dueling, I can't wait to actually PvP.

I can see myself playing this game for a very long time. The only problem I have is that going back to other games feel so primitive. Other MMO games are just not as engaging to me.

Not playing any MMOs, spending all my time on Europa Universalis 3.

I'm waiting for Mechwarrior Online, I *was* waiting for Wakfu to go live but it was so boring in beta and I doubt it'll get much better. I'm tempted to try Tera but I'm not going to bother wasting my time on beta. I intended to go back to World of Tanks at some point (quit about 3 months ago to wait for expanded Soviet heavy tree and for the T-44 to get the damn LB-1), but who knows if I'll ever bother.

On a side note, I can't believe people need to play WoW on 20x rate servers. I've played so many MMOs over the past 12 years and WoW is the only one where I ever reached endgame (had two raid-geared 80s while playing for about a year, and several other characters in the 30s, and I tend not to make particularly efficient use of my time too)

Well if you missed the memo, wow offers NOTHING for low/mid level players and you have literally nothing else to do until you reach level cap. Level 1 to max is just one big fucking tutorial to learn your class at an exceptionally slow rate, and many people already know how to play their classes. It'd be fine if you were new, but as you may realize, many people aren't.

20x servers just help you reach the level cap faster so you can play wow as intended with bgs, raids and other misc content at max level.

You have one avatar per account, so make a new account. Most of the advanced customization comes from the shop. Some items are bought with virtual money, others bought with real $$, as with any pay to play/freeware game like this. They also have "gachas" which are often anime and cosplay themed, they had Vocaloid and Madoka cosplay gachas last time I played.

You have to go into the in-game world and socialize with people to get some of the ingame money. They also have a mini RPG quest thing, and chat rooms. The community is about on the same level of Gaia, but slightly nicer... and the customization is much cuter.

Most people I knew who quit playing quit because they disliked the emphasis on pay-to-get items over the virtual currency ones though.
