What does /jp/ think of idolm@ster?

And, seeing as you're all hipsters, what did you think of it before the anime aired? For the super-hipsters amongst you, what did you think of it before Perfect Sun was translated?

I think it produces some of the best porn since Touhou.

Liking the game before the anime and translation does not make one a hipster.

And not just because idolmaster already had 2 anime before.

Hah? Idol@masurz? Why the fuck should i watch that? I might as well turn tv on, put some cheap American reality show coming where camera crew follow some pop singer's life while paging through some doujin made by some 16 year old horny Japanese from Akihabara. No thanks. I'd rather stick to my shoujo manga.

I guess I was slightly annoyed by all the people basing their whole opinions on some characters from the anime alone. "Secondary fans", if you will.
Other than that, why would my opinion on the franchise itself change? Stop believing everything trolls say about suddenly hating something when it's translated

Dropped the anime couple episodes in, for two reasons - first, when it was airing, I only watched the very beginning on the first episode, and was expecting something that's actually as good as it was.
Second, it felt awfully misogynistic. Even more so than the usual otaku fare. I don't know whether it's because of the inherent misogyny in the idol industry, is anime's fault, or was it there in the games too, but it pissed me off.

Well let's see. I've owned a Japanese Xbox 360 and the original Idolmaster and Live for You for about 3 years now. I was a bit late to the party. My favorite idols are the twins. I have never played Idolmaster 2.

I'm disappointed with idolmaster 2 because the music, which was amazing was the biggest selling point turned to mostly crap in idolmaster 2 (dressing up cute girls is also very nice but there are many games with that option). There's maybe 2 decent songs in im@s 2 all the greatest songs are imports from Live for You (except LOBM which came from the PSP version and didn't make it to Live for You).

So, how do I feel about im@s now? Disappointed, though about 4 weeks ago when my computer died I played a ton of im@s and won with Iori's best, Makoto's normal, and Haruka's normal ends. Currently producing Yukiho and Azusa duo, Haruka solo, and Yayoi and the twins but I haven't played in a couple weeks.

Maybe I'll get back to it later soon, dunno. Though I may just sink another $50 into Live for You, there's still plenty I don't own and goddamn it I lost my top 100 score on Watashi wa Idol ...

The show generally seems to present women as stupid, weak, inferior to men, and only good for their sex appeal(moe, cuteness, etc). Distinctively from other similar media, it's not only the viewer who judges the characters on their attractiveness - that's also their only worth in-universe. It also perpetuates and enforces the tired stereotypes of attractiveness as a means of making the girls who fall outside of them seem more vulnerable.

Basically, what I'm saying is, Ritsuko should've been a competent producer and there's no need for that bespectacled faggot.
