Depends on the beer. Three pints tends to be enough to get into a good mood, but I suppose six would be enough to make me drunk.
Ten would be monkeyed? I don't know. It depends on the time-frame, how much you've eaten, etc.

On a side-point, I now really want one of those beers.

Depends. Some nights I go out I could have 10 or more pints and I'd feel fine, other nights I could have 5 and I'm fairly pissed. Usually drink larger but if I find a pub that sells Chimay 9% I usually drink that for the night. God damn I love that stuff

We've had a lot of beer threads recently, and I'm feeling like absolute shit at the moment, so I'll just give you a general tip rather than names.

Go into at least three places that sell drink; off-licenses are often the best, but in some places they don't have the funds to stock some fancier stuff, in which case you'd go to well-stocked supermarkets or whatever the fuck they're called.

Buy one of each beer that you haven't heard of, and that doesn't look awful (Chocolate flavour, for example). Try them, making sure to really taste them. Remember the names of the ones you don't really dislike, and pick up two of them next time, trying them out one after the other.

If you have no idea about beers at all, this is a good way to go, but probably very impractical.

An easier way is to buy two or three bottles of three different kinds of beer when you go to the shop; if you find one you like, buy it again next time. After three or four trips, you'll have a good idea of what you like and what you don't.

Bottles tend to be better for most things that don't require a head, in which case you need a can (Well, draught would be best, but whatever).
Also, it would be ideal to stay away from the seriously advertised brands like Bud and such; at least until you've tried others, anyway. They're not very good.

I like dark ale, but I don't know if it's a great place to start. Don't judge one based on the first drink though; you need a minimum of two or three bottles/pints/whatever to be able to judge strong drinks appropriately.
The first time I had a Guinness, I thought it tasted like drinking metal; by my third, I was in love.

Anyway, just drink whatever looks interesting; I found one of my favourite beers because it had a plane on the bottle, and another because it was apparently Michael Collins' favourite.

As everyone has pointed out, obviously, strength of the beer is the most important factor.

An average, 5-6% American beer usually takes about 3 or 4 bottles or cans to give me a good buzz. I'd consider myself drunk at probably 6 or 7.

I am also lightweight at 135lbs, but the few times I've tried nothing really happens. 5 cans in an hour and thirty minutes just made me have to piss a lot. My stomach filled out before any effect happened.
