Anybody have some tips on fighting Nero? Is there a special way to go about him? Or is it just practice, practice, practice? His attacks always seem to catch me off guard for some reason or another. I'm not all that good, but he's my worst character to fight against.

I use half-moon Vermillion if that helps any.

He's pretty fun, I imagine the learning curve is steeper than most however. Picked him as my first MB main recently, so I don't have too much reference aside from a few miscellaneous combos with other characters.

He seems like the type of character where you reach a certain point and everything falls into place when you get there. Hopefully I can get there eventually.

Uh, if you're not playing Full, then you've got all sorts of good tools for pressure. She has great reach plus good anti-air with 4C. Just get used to whiff canceling with 5A and going right into a new string, but that holds for most characters.

I don't know chink either, but it's not that hard to understand. It overwrites the default keyboard controls in the .exe, while the .cfg is used to by mapper to remember the path.

Alright in the middle of this (haven't played melty or a fighter since react)
1. Pick random character
2. pick full moon
3. whack out some random combo (F can only go one way) until you do it about 80% of the time in training.
4. practice for 10 minutes with jump ins, failing miserably.

Am I ready to be schooled yet, or should I practice more.
I like F Seifuku and Aoko so far. Especially ring girl. Bad choice? Otherwise I'll set up something in an hour when my downloads are done.

I play C-S.Akiha, when I was preparing for netplay the main thing I wanted to do was be able to hitconfirm my combo.

I've played a lot of different fighting games where I spent a lot of time learning a combo only to never be able to get it off in a real match. Eventually I figured out that I should make my training mode as close to a real game as I can get it, which helps the transition from single player to actually fighting people.

For this game I wanted to be able to hitconfirm my main combo off just 2 lights since C-S.Akiha can't chain them, so I put it on random block/tech and focused more on what happens when the attacks get blocked than when they hit. If they were blocked I'd walk up and attack again, or I'd air dash in for a jump attack. If the 2 lights hit I'd try to finish the combo, but that wasn't really the main goal. Dropping a combo is better than practicing nothing but the combo but not knowing what to do once you fight people who block.

Putting teching on random is just there so that the dummy switches sides occasionally. It's not a good idea to keep doing the combo in the same corner, you want to flow into the right combo for midscreen/both corners without having to set up for it.

The fact the game makes it harder to 5aaa anti-air punish, the fact that her combos require me to do 3c to get a good knock-up as well as gap closer, the fact that her grabs have different properties. Too many contributing factor lead to not playing her.

Randomly, I found H-Miyako more to my taste, even though she's probably one of the more input heavy and spot-on characters in the game.

My apologies I thought it said DPing for some reason, it's still simple. Back Down Forward Up. if you have problems with the UP key after forward you can simply have another key to act as your UP key right next your left and right keys. If for example you had WASD you could have F and Caps Lock as extra Up buttons. So then it simply becomes one fluid motion of pressing 4 keys in a row.

It's a TK j.236a, so usually you'd input the motion as 2369a, but since you're doing it on keyboard, it can a bit tricky.
I've been able to do it consistently on keyboard by inputting it as 412369a, so that may be your best bet.

Uhh..translating this to the 4-button movement of keyboard, it'd be: back, down, forward, up, A.

Keep in mind that you have to be quick with the input.

I still fuck up TK motions every now and then. I'm very familiar with playing keyboard for Melty Blood, but I'm still new to the TKing motion because I never had a use for it until I started maining Aoko.

Just go into training mode and spend some time practicing the input on both sides until you're pulling it off fairly consistently. I think I spent around an hour or two in training until I started getting a hang of it.
If you're just getting used to keyboard it may take longer, but it's nothing to get discouraged about. Shit's pretty hard to do.

I think if you play keyboard its probably best to learn the Hitbox layout.

Just translate that into Keyboard, so it would be something like:

QWE[space] - Left, Down, Right, Up respectively.

UIO
JKL

Something like that for attack buttons. Or whatever you are comfortable with.

The thing with this layout is that it makes motions really damn crispy, but movement takes a while to get used to.
