Off topic, but I recently bought a condo to rent in Sapporo, just a cheap one near a university that I thought a university student could probably use and thus get a decent 23% yield from, which in turn translates to an easy $7000/pa investment, which translates to $4800 bottom line taking into account tax, insurance and other costs not exactly wondrous profits, but not bad either, it's a solid investment.

But if you have something like Steins;Gate with high production values, and an anime generation some buzz go up on Steam, I think it would sell surprisingly well and get a lot of people interested in the genre.

I really think it does. Look at some of the other boards. Imagine they practised the same elitism as we do with regards to greentext. I think it's pretty naive to think that people aren't swayed by it. And to be honest I think that's a shame. Though it's mostly just because, on average, posts are good and made by regular /jp/ers. Of course I'm not counting shitposts, but they're intentionally made to be shit.

That's only when we get into meta-bullshit like this. Meta is one of the most unfortunate developments of 4chan in the past five or six years. That aside, I would argue the opposite here. I have seen plenty of really nice people who came here to ask a question or made a really stupid thread, and people have said "Blah blah blah lurk more who are you quoting learn to use google" or whatever, and people have been like, "Oh thanks, I'll delete my thread." I'm not saying it's common, but the people making these posts ARE real people and they don't want to look like idiots even anonymously, particularly if they're trying to get something out of us. Not everyone on the internet is a jerk.

Agreed, though we can't just rely on moderation. In fact the past few days have been a wee bit annoying because of how trigger happy the janitor has been. It got to the point where he was literally going through each thread and cherry-picking the "good" responses and deleting the "bad" ones. That's not what moderation should be. I'd prefer an actual mod to our janitor. I really miss "You have been banned from /jp/ for the following reason: Shitposting". I don't know which mod it was that did that, but he had good judgment and was very efficient.

I hate to be so literal, but I would argue that it's actually not a place for literally everyone to discuss the topics they like. Such a board would be a complete disaster and have no unifying theme.
I'd say this board should be mostly about a handful of core principals with moderation and janitorial actions aimed at keeping the board roughly focused on those ideals.

I made the argument around the time of the whole AoC drama that preserving core principals requires more tough policing of the boards, but many people disagreed stating that such strong-arm tactics would make 4chan no different than a closed forum. To this day, I still don't see their point.
