Yes, back during the colonial era, when the lower classes were poor and skinny because of poor diet and manual labor, the rich women were able to differentiate themselves by feeding themselves enough to become chubbier with their more lethargic lifestyles. The same happened with businessmen. The only wealthy people who were always fit were the career military men, because they eat the same crap as everyone else when the army is in the field and officers were expected to lead from the front.

That's not the case in modern times though. It's the other way around now - being trim and fit is a sign of wealth because you have the money to take time off from work and do exercise and work on your appearance instead of sitting in a cubicle or standing in one place for hours doing low pay work. It's odd how society changes.
