When I was stationed in Japan, me and my friends went on a camping trip in rural Aomori Prefecture. Nearby the campsite was an outdoor onsen. We went there and in the center of the onsen was a kappa statue. While we were there this old man came in the bath with a cucumber. This freaked us out until we saw him offer it to the kappa statue. Turns out he was the guy who maintained the onsen.
