I've been playing Bullet Soul. The entire game basically consists of point blanking enemies like Futari BL Original, except you can't access the second loop unless you pull off all the tricks which are basically "be here at the right time" or "wait to kill something". You're supposed to play the fighting games against other people. Playing against the AI is boring, and the only thing remotely enjoyable to do in single player is fuck around in training mode. You could also download the custom AI for SWR/Soku, but even they become easy and predictable after fighting around with them a few times. Maybe if soku had something like th075booster, it'd be much more interesting to play solo. But instead you can just go over to the Soku IRC and watch people circlejerk over frame data, but never actually play the game!

I got DFK in the mail last night, so I played for a few hours. It's kind of cool, but I still don't really know what I'm doing, so my scores are garbage. Not sure how much effort I want to put in to learning the game, but it's kinda fun to pop your hyper and watch those numbers go up.

That said I dunno how I feel about hypers in this game overall. They're still about the same as DOJ on bosses, but a lot of the time during stage it feels the same as TD's trance (invincible, everything dies, do it as much as possible because there's no real reason not to.) That's an impression based off of one day of play, though.

Also 1.5 is a pretty easy 1-ALL. It's not that the danmaku is easy necessarily, but autobomb plus all those hypers gives you a whole lot of space for error.

>> No.8407302

>>8407262
Yeah, from what I've played of DFK it's pretty much the easiest of the DonPachi series yet. This is coming from somebody who can BARELY get past 2-2 in DDP after many years of playing. It certainly seems aimed toward beginners to the STG genre, it's far too easy to play survival in it, much like TD. But at least scoring is pretty fun in my opinion.

I hadn't played Touhou seriously in over a few months, every time I tried I just got depressed about how my skill degraded. Today, I sat down and decided I would at least get myself a 1CC on PCB normal. 6 hours of failed attempts later, I finally managed it. I almost aborted the run when I dropped to 3 lives in stage 4... but I salvaged the run with a perfect stage 5 (can't believe that happened, normally Youmu just eats me), and only dropped 2 lives on Yuyuko. Being able to finally get somewhere closer to where I had been months ago in terms of skill was the most satisfying feeling Ive had all week. Tomorrow, my goal is to finally 1CC SA normal, the last game I have yet to 1CC in the series. Hope I don't blow a thousand stage 5s like usual.

Practice more. I honestly was unable to get past stage 2 for the longest time before I decided to say fuck it and start playing the game religiously. Now I make it to the 1-6 boss nearly every single run. Sticking to the one or two games you want to 1cc most will also help, but you'll probably get burnt out rather easily.

Don't be afraid to use save states or credit feed to practice new techniques for stages you have problems with. Maybe watch a superplay or two and copy it exactly, but you're going to need some degree of skill to be able to piece it all together. Also, I'd recommend using shottype C-S or A-L if you are new to the game.

Whatever you switch to, you're going to be worse until you put a bunch of time into learning the new control method. If you spent more time with the 360 controller you'd probably learn how to use the pad without hitting those deadzones. An arcade stick is going to feel like it's not as precise until you become accustomed to it too.

I play with a pad and I wouldn't ever consider switching to keyboard even if it offers some slight advantage in the long run because I don't want to put the effort into changing everything up. I don't think it's a huge disadvantage, or any disadvantage, really. If anything it makes it easier for me to play TD and GFW because an extra button ain't no thing, whereas I saw lots of keyboard players complaining about having to hit combinations of keys they weren't used to.

MoF: Spell card bonuses are fairly large when your faith is maxed out. The bonus isn't that important, but bombing later in the game will replace point items that the bosses would normally drop.

SA: Almost. The spell bonuses aren't too important, and you're allowed to bomb a few times if stuck, but too much and you'll easily destroy your stage routes due to a lack of resources.

UFO: Capturing spells is incredibly important on all difficulties. You simply cannot afford mistakes in UFO in a scoring run. Your resources are very precious.

The default game difficulty has been so dumbed down that the entire difficulty of the games seem to be based on suicide bullets. Around 2000 if you even implied you cleared a arcade shooter on the first try they would have called you a filthy liar unless you were SOF WTN or something now we got really bad player and I mean really bad players shitting out 1ccs on their 3rd runs. Stuff like Raiden has become acquired taste while it used it be the most mainstream vertical shooter of all except for maybe 1942. It makes sense because in the end you cannot really avoid the dodging part in a Raiden game you gotta man up and master the patterns and stages while in CAVEs latest game you can pretty much get away with barely even mastering the stages or bosses. If this trend continues I think that the average Touhou game will end up being a more difficult clear.

They're trying to appeal to the current day audience. If there's anyone to blame, blame the latter.
I actually don't mind the "Illusion of Dodging" and bullet cancelling that much though (no, keep reading). It allows for another level of difficulty where you -don't- cancel anything.

>If this trend continues I think that the average Touhou game will end up being a more difficult clear.
Just out of curiosity, I wonder how hard a Touhou game would be if it was played under the same conditions as a Cave game. I've 1-ALL'd many Touhou and a few Cave games and UFO Lunatic took the longest of them all even with 12 lives and 652893472349 bombs.

Even with bullet cancelling mechanics, you aren't going to cancel every single bullet and you still need to plan routes in stages. Even if you could cancel every single bullet in the stage the game would progress to finding the optimal way to cancel bullets for max score.

No but in comparison to previously what was required for a clear you had to get to know the stage, enemy placement alot more. Now you can just do a half assed fart attempt at a game and clear it without any problems. Not to mention they added the fact that you can see your hitbox and autobombing getting more and more prevalent.

I liked when scoring and survival was more connected to eachother like in DoJ you really need the extra lives you get from a score extend to even find something like attempting a 2-ALL, now people are farting out 2-ALL clears like in DFK 1.5 with barely even reaching the second extend.

Alright, going on a replay critique marathon today.

>>8410415
>>8414116
Before getting specific with you, you have a major, general problem that needs to be addressed.

Point of Collection. After the second stage, you avoided the top of the screen like it was a veritable death trap, even after boss spell cards. Now, I will admit that I would much, much rather see you play it safe instead of eat bullets due to PoCing like an idiot, but you didn't even get the 800 point item extend, which I didn't think was possible unless you were doing it on purpose. Beyond that, the 1100 item extend is very possible to attain somewhere in Stage 6 even while playing it safe, with 1200+ items possible BEFORE Stage 6 if you know what you're doing.

Learning when it is safe to PoC during stages is an adventure that I will let you discover in stage practice, but there are still many, general times you should have PoC'd and you didn't.

Times to always PoC:
>Immediately after spell cards
After stage 2, you simply stopped doing this, I don't know why. It is always, ALWAYS safe after a spell to PoC, and the only one that might catch you off guard is after one of Reisen's, I forget which. If you're more worried about doing damage to the boss, remember that, a lot of the time, bosses will have damage armor for a couple seconds at the beginning of their attacks anyway.

>After you die
Whenever you died, you sat at the bottom of the screen, seemingly ignoring your power items as they disappeared behind you. In Touhou, you are invincible for an obscene amount of time after a death, so run to the top of the screen, tap focus, collect all your dropped power and anything else that happens to be on the screen at the time. You should never be more than one spell card or enemy away from full power. You died at the beginning of Reisen and didn't even get full power back until Stage 6.

>>8423763
Now for specifics. Really, you handled just about everything better than I expected, and I don't have much to say to you (unless you want to hear about scoring, but even then, you should ask someone like dot_asp instead). Just about perfect up until stage 4 where stuff gets hard, so I will forgive mistakes from this point onward, especially when it's just someone trying to get their first Normal 1cc. I actually had no idea how you were going to NOT clear the game going into Stage 5 with that many lives and having spent your resources so well so far. Then you just ate shit. Repeatedly. Two lives lost to Reisen's first noncard of all things, and then general lack of experience with the rest of the game, which is fine, mind you, and something I expect out of a first 1cc.

>Please help me
You don't really need help. PoC shit and don't die multiple times to a single attack with full bombs in stock and the 1cc will be cake for you.
