I imagine I'll only be ridiculed for this, but MikuMikuMoving(MMM), the sister and successor software to MMD, has been released in a beta version.

Essentially, it's an easy-to-use 3d animation software. Unlike Blender and other 3d software, it has no modelling component. I'm not going to compare it to professional level 3d products, but it is usable for animation. It has many additional functionalities over MMD, so if you've ever thought of getting into it, now would be a good time.

I know nothing I do is worth posting in these threads so I keep to myself, but I figured maybe one or two people here would like to know about this. MMM/D entertaining, and I imagine there are a few people here with good artistic/anatomical sense who could do some amazing stuff if they tried.

I have to admit the amount of effort I put in coloring isn't equal to my lineart, but he is right more or less. Grinding lines and fundamentals is easy, but I just haven't paid enough attention to my coloring. I think it's been stagnant for a while, and now there's a noticeable (and increasing) gap between the quality of my linework and my coloring. I have really piss-poor knowledge about color values and shit.

How little do I know? That last sketch was literally the first time I decided to figure out what the watercolor brush does, and it was blowing my mind. I feel bad it was swishy enough to tell how watery it looked. At any rate, I'm going to grind that shit until you think my colors look good, anon.

I just threw together a short little piano loop that times up and matches her keystrokes pretty well. I included the .wav and midi file in the .zip.

I don't have any decent melodica tones, so I just made it piano (and not the greatest piano tone on earth, either). You can do what you'd like with it if you care to. Doesn't matter either way. Hope you find it mildly entertaining for at least 20 seconds. Beat one starts when she hits her left hand down after holding it up to her chest for a brief moment.

180bpm seems to sync up best, if anybody else decides to screw around with it.

As something added, I don't know how you should go about looping the audio file. I looped the .GIF in MPC and looped the audio file in my DAW.

If you have trouble seamlessly looping the audio, here's the audio file looped 8 times, so that you can at least get the idea of what it's supposed to look like. Might take a few tries to get the timing right at first.

Her left leg is very wrong. Obviously you went for some sort of foreshortening, but it doesn't make sense that the closer knee would actually be higher in the picture, in that pose. Not to mention, given her center of gravity, she's falling on her back. Her arms are different length too.

Still, the head is still the biggest (pun intended) problem. Due to the depth effect it's now actually even bigger than the torso and way too far forward compared to where her neck is supposed to be.

You just start drawing with the face and make up the rest as you go, don't you? Please don't do that.

I thought he was going for perspective the first time I looked, but the perspective applied to the legs is inconsistent with perspective applied to the torso and the face for some unknown reason.
Maybe he wanted to draw in perspective but gave up halfway through, dunno.

Hello, OC thread. Where do I begin if I want to learn music production? I'm totally worthless when it comes to making music digitally, and I'm a bit overwhelmed when I tried using DAWs.

As a beginner myself, biggest piece of advice I can offer is stick to a single DAW, watch loads of tutorials / song breakdown videos. Try and make simple stuff to get used to the software or find premade song files and edit/break them down to see how they use the software.

The first few weeks of learning a DAW (especially when you haven't used one before) is fucking frustrating and difficult. Basically you want to spend more time learning the software basics, and less time actually making music.

This is assuming you know the super basics like counting bars etc, which is not absolutely need to start as you can break down finished songs but it helps

Then again your problems with the head, I don't see how anyone can be so ignorant.
First of all the head-position isn't too far forward if you look at the shoulders, you just can't see the neck and that's why you're making uneducated guesses.

I'd be more inclined to believe this if the head-to-body ratio didn't change with every picture you draw, but it still looks strange since you at least try to draw the rest of the body in accordance to correct proportions and height.

As a standalone DAW for midi sequencing, I recommend Reason. Since it sounds like you are possibly composing via sheet music software(?), I think something like Cubase or Protools might hit a bit closer to home, as they integrate midi-to-sheet music features and I imagine sheet-to-midi. Protools and Cubase also allow the use of more high quality (albeit massive space/resource consuming) samples through VSTi's, though these are more difficult to get started with and Cubase's midi sequencing just sucks, if you ask me (I'm sure some other people would disagree).

For ease of use, FL Studio is by far the most straight-forward DAW I've used. I've also heard good things about Reaper.

It depends on what you want and are willing to do with it. It's a DAW like any other and it's only as good as the guy working it. The only difference is that it's easy to use. Seriously, avoid using the stock samples, download a few VSTs and you're golden.

I've tried Ableton Live and Sony Acid, but quickly dropped them because of the interface. I'm sure anyone could figure it out eventually if they wanted to, but any sound benefit (assuming there is any) would be negligible if you can't make music with FL Studio to begin with.

I know 9th Wonder uses FL Studio, and that cat has a Grammy.

I wanna get into music making with DAWs as well. Is it absolutely necessary to work with a MIDI keyboard ?

i use flstudio it's nice but you need good plug-ins. the best ones are the ones that emulate the vintage analog synths (duh!)

You'll never think you need a midi keyboard until you get used to using one, and then you'll never be able to work without one again.

I worked with DAWs for years and years without a midi keyboard, then one day I bought one and from then on whenever I have to work without a midi keyboard I feel very handicapped. I can't even play piano, but it's just really useful having one there to quickly play back notes. I still do almost all of my input with the mouse using pencil tools though.
