Think the joke is that Nitroplus hasn't produced anything enjoyable since "Hello world", traditionally the first program you write when learning a new language.

This.

Am I still allowed to like this? It's one of my favourite VNs but /jp/ seems to have taken to bashing it lately.

/jp/ has only taken to bashing it because it's popular.

I don't think /jp/ has been bashing it, seriously, only tastefully critiquing it and occasionally joking about it being "babby's first VN", which you can't really deny in that a lot of people come here after reading Saya to ask for more (people from other boards who got interested in the premise).

I can see how someone would have it as their favourite if they're really into the premise, characters and Urobuchi's style. Saya's good, but being as short and minimalistic as it is, for most people it can only be so good.
