Honestly my main problem with Rewrite was the common route.
I mean it was interesting at times but it was often really boring.
Afterward, the routes themselves went quicker.
I mean sure Kotori's route is pretty shitty but it's pretty short, Shizuru's route is shitty too but Shizuru is awesome so it evens out and Chihaya's route read like a bad light novel but it's pretty fast paced so it's at least not boring.
Rest was decent to great.

But really it took me 2 weeks to go through the common part of Rewrite, that's how dull it was.
The common route of Grisaia I read around the same time and that is as long took me 2 days.

.NET framework 4.0 apparently. My advice is to disable the machine translation and use it as a kanji lookup tool, and use the machine translations when you need extra help. This of course assumes you understand kana and basic grammar, if you don't google Tae Kim's guide and read until you have the basics. It'll be slow at first, but honestly if you're that taken with it you might as well entertain yourself slowly.

See if you have .NET framework 4.0, if not get it, could be the reason. If you don't know if you have it or not, just download and try it. /jp/ is where the true oldfags and the highest of powerlevels reside. Most people on /jp/ have seen more anime series than 10+ average f/a/ggots combined. In addition a lot of people on /jp/ can watch anime without waiting for subs like you fucking faggot babbys. Generally, /a/ looks to each other for approval of things, while /jp/ looks inward at itself instead of relies on a hivemind mentality. Also /a/ has no OC besides shitty image macro memes that get old within a week; /jp/ translates VNs, games and has doujin translation teams that regularly post there. People at /jp/ know your own boards' subject far, far better than you do, fucking dream on if you think you have any kind of superiority in any way whatsoever.

We sneer at you fucking newfags/normalfags, your shonenshit Big 3 threads, quasi-/v/ mentality and everything else that makes /a/ suck fucking balls. /jp/ is a better board than /a/ could ever dream to be because most of you f/a/ggots are, in our eyes, eternal newfags, aka there is nothing you could ever say or do to bring yourself up to our level, because you aren't true oldfags. You're G/a/ia, you're ANN and MAL trash now. Stay away, we don't want you in /jp/, not now, not ever. Go on and continue existing in your own world of shit thinking that it's any good, while the master race quietly resides separated from you mongoloids.

>> No.8390393

>>8389261

1-5 are different kinds of bad. 6 isn't bad.
6 - Liked it a bit
5 - Didn't mind reading it, but wouldn't call 'fun'
4 - Could've been fun but wasn't
3 - The game sucks
2 - The game is fucking terrible
1 - The game is so bad it's good (comedy value from low quality)

I only rate games when I am certain I have played enough to form a good opinion on it. Otherwise there would be a lot more badly-rated OELVNs in there. As for the 6 and lower rated games on that list:
6.3 Natsu no Hi no Resonance - Finished it completely (was amusing)
6.2 The Answer - Finished it completely (was amusing and made some interesting points)
6 Digital: A Love Story - Finished it completely (had great potential, hoped for something better)
6 Tokoyo no Hoshizora - Finished it completely (was amusing)
5.8 Tsuki no Terasu - Finished it completely (was amusing)
5.3 Otoko Dogeza Jigoku - Finished it completely (was amusing)
4.8 The Fucking Question - Finished it completely (was amusing)
4.7 Nice Day - Finished it completely (was <5 min)
4.4 Kawaii Adobenshaas in Anime Rando - Finished it completely (hoped for non-completely random plot or better humor, had potential)
3.6 Natsu no Owari ni - Finished it completely (and expected the story to finally start after the final scene, only to find out that was all)
3 Nagaeba Kitto... - Finished it completely (was extremely short)
2 Take Rena Home - Finished it completely (curious how terrible it would become)
1 Fading Hearts Parallel - Finished one ending (enjoyed how terrible it was)
They're mostly very short games, so by the time I've played enough to conclude the game is terrible it's already over.

You may be happy to hear Christine Love is working on a sequel of sorts, Analogue: A Hate Story which is sort of a cross between Digital and DTIPB.

My scale is like this:
6: Passable
5: Heavily flawed
4: Pretty bad, trainwreck value
3: Honestly bad, not much reason to play to the end
2: Worthless shit that I am mad at for wasting my time
1: (I have yet to actually encounter anything this bad.)

I also have only one 10 on my list thus far, so I tend to be pretty conservative with assigning extreme scores.

What did you give it to? And in my opinion, having only one 10 isn't being conservative, or having 10's at all, for that matter. It should be given to a work that there's absolutely no way it could have been better, i.e. impossible.

Especially now that you can give 9.9's.

You could argue that, but I would counter that ratings are by their very nature subjective and personal, so all that really matters is how good you thought it was.

> What did you give it to?

Shikkoku no Sharnoth. I'm well aware of the complaints and accusations of perceived flaws it gets, but to me it was everything I wanted it to be and then some, especially since the rerelease. Now that I know about the new scoring system (which I didn't before, and thanks for bringing it to my attention) I may change its score once I finish that, but probably not.

I don't hate it; there were a lot of positive elements, and I get what the story was trying to do, but it didn't amaze me or even surprise me all that much.

Also, the majority of the case was far, far too unlikeable (even taking into account that they're all emotionally disturbed and whatnot) for me to ever invest in them, and I found all the sex, something I ordinarily don't mind and can even enjoy in VNs, to be pointless and badly executed in most cases and tasteless in a few.

Assembling the puzzle pieces was a decently enjoyable exercise, but the picture they form when assembled was not worth it.

Ability to relate to the characters and interest in what they do is often a make or break factor in whether a given person will enjoy a work of fiction. I happen to find it fairly important.

The spectacle of messed-up people doing messed-up things is ground that's been tread further back than ancient Greece, but it's just not for me. I'd compare CC to American Psycho in that regard, which I didn't like either.

It doesn't. It's actually practically two completely separate games; a shitty VN and a shitty browser game. They share the same setting and can be found on the same site, but that's pretty much it. There's no interaction between the 'MMO' and the 'VN' parts. By the way, did I mention yet that all BGs are stolen from other games?

>>8392142
Chaos;Head's protagonist Takumi was also unlikable. Fate/stay night's Shinji was also unlikable. But there's a difference between an unlikable person and an unlikable character. It's fine if you think a character is pathetic, and (as clearly demonstrated in Chaos;Head) the character being utterly pathetic can even add a lot to the story. However, the characters in Cross Channel were not just unlikable as people, they were unlikable as characters. I never found it enjoyable to see them interact. (Not the guy who rated CC a 6, I dropped it and have thus not rated it.)

I think it was more of an issue around the time he'd translated Cross Channel. Keep in mind, this was only like his second translation project ever, and he'd also hardly read many VNs at all, probably didn't watch a whole lot of anime either which is another large source of immersion for many of us early on. I don't think he had even read Fate/Stay Night at that point. Since then he's gotten a lot more experience.
