1) We never spammed any board on 4chan, ever. I'm pretty sure from time to time a couple KS devs have posted in threads for whatever reason, but there was no coordinated effort.

2) No dev has ever made a cent off this game. Those books were sold by the Japanese translator team and it was to help them advertise the game and recoup printing costs. At best, the actual devs just got a free copy.

Finished my third route, that's it for tonight. The plot really isn't all that great in any of the routes and the story is short as fuck. I feel like their final wordcount doesn't account for redundant scenes so it's even shorter than what they advertised. Anyway, you're definitely right in that the art is really inconsistent. Don't they have like a different artist for each girl or something? Inconsistent art is even worse than generally mediocre art, I'd say, since it distracts you from everything else. You can't get used to it and don't know what to expect, and find yourself thinking about the graphics rather than the story. That's what happens with me, at least...

In the usual VNs the art is usually the same as the character sprites. In KS some of the art is really good, but most of the animation sequences and sprites are not nearly as good. a shame

You must be from /a/ or somewhere. Do you know how much "your average VN" costs? Go research this a bit and then ask yourself whether or not they are too long for the prices paid for them. The more a game costs, the more playing hours you expect.

But besides the cost, when it comes to the story, I'd say the average VN isn't too long. There are definitely many VNs that should have been shorter, say F/SN with it's kitchen scenes and whatnot, but often the length of the game is required in order to get the content across decently. You could probably fit a barebone version of Ever17 or Muv Luv Alternative in a couple of hours, but would it be the same experience? Would it get the atmosphere, emotions and intentions of the story across? Nope.

It's an enjoyable game I'd say. I've played some terribly boring Japanese visual novels that I just gave up on. If I had to rate it out of 100 I'd probably give it about 70. If they polish it more with updates I'm sure I could add on a few extra points. Good effort for a bunch of retarded weaboos I guess.

First off, I'm not American (or fat, for that matter).

You can't really compare food and VNs. With food you have to pay relatively little to fill up your stomach in itself, so the decisions are really about whether you want your food tasty or healthy, and what prices you are willing to pay to get rid of your hunger. Few people in the western world need to think about being able to afford enough food, so it's a question of estimating how good food you can afford and whether you want to invest in more tasty/healthy/expensive/exotic food.

With entertainment it's different: how long the game keeps you entertained (length and replay value, possibly difficulty as well) is a big factor in most people's decision to buy something, since it's a kind of an expensive luxury where most people can't afford to spend recklessly. You wouldn't buy a 1-hour game without replay value for dozens of dollars/euros however well it was made.

And since most VNs have next to no replay value and difficulty isn't really a factor either (meaning you don't really need to play for long because you can't get to the next level or something), what you end up paying for is the length. Of course you look at the quality as well, but being too short is a huge flaw for a VN since most people only play them through once, so buying/playing decisions are made judging the quality between long VNs and ignoring the short ones.
