How aware are the elevens of 4chan? We pretty much surpassed them a good while ago in terms of traffic, so you might think that some of our memes and such make it over there.

2chan is well aware of 4chan, but only in a "Haha, look at the stupid gaijin," sort of way.

2ch is also somewhatish aware of 4-ch, (as in, posters from 2ch show up every once in a while, or at least they claim to be) and to a lesser extent, 4chan, I'd assume, but they really don't give a fuck, it seems.

And we still take their memes. Hell, easily half of "classic" 4chan memes are just imported 2chan memes.

2channel is most likely the largest site on the internet, seeing as it is basically what 4chan is to weeaboos, only for the whole of japan.

the biggest data miner (alexa) cannot accurately count 2channel's traffic, as most people who frequent 2channel use 2ch browser standalone software, which is impossible to track using alexa.

According to alexa 4chan has way more traffic than 2chan (in fact I run a forum with more traffic than 2chan)

Surpassing 2chan really isn't a big deal, and as people say it happened quite awhile ago.

In terms of accessibility by language, an English board has a much larger potential (more people speak English on the planet). Yes, but 2channel just appeals to a much broader audience than 4chan does. It has several hundred more sections than 4chan and is generally not so much looked down on by others. With the way 4chan is they're not really even competitors.

What are you even talking about? We were talking about the fact that 2channel-users are not looked down on in the same way since the site is fairly normal by Internet standards.

4chan is much more niched than 2channel. Lots of everyday people go to 2channel on a daily basis whereas there are very few such people on a site like 4chan, which has profiled itself to the rest of the Internet as being about anime, videogames, disturbing pictures and invading other sites.

This was 2chan pretty much for the first years of 4chan before we grew past them. Both 4chan and 2chan is kinda built on 2channel (anonymous posting, saging and all that) but 2channel is really more like 4ch or the 4chan BBS than the 4chan imageboards.

The names are similar and they share some stuff, but 2channel is more a ridiculously large discussion forum while 4chan is an image board for well.. otakus mostly.
