Everyone's going to all over the character who has plenty of screen time, actually, but a disproportionately large number of people will also focus on the characters who never appear, just to be contrary to that.

Or maybe it's just that when a character isn't around, they can't be found to have fault. You might start to dislike a main character once they are properly nuanced, but continue to like a side-character who was never properly explored, yet seems good on a surface level.

It makes me feel kinda good, though the thought of lewd images and doujins of me existing bothers me a bit.

The former, because Homu sucks. The latter, because there are threads all the time talking about different "Satens". A Saten in those threads being defined as a character voiced by Itou Kanae. Sena was anticipated because of her voice actor, and was called things like "Saten 3.0". Ohana also had some popularity here, before Sena's time, because she was a Saten.
