Also I ranted about this yesterday but I want to vent some more. Fuck. Steam. I lost my account and closed the email account associated with it, so now I've lost access to games I have the discs for right in front of me. I'll accept that this is kind of my own fault, but this is a really stupid model to begin with. I shouldn't need Steam just to _play_ a game. Let me download an installer or run it off a CD and play it, and optionally add it to Steam if I want the Steam features. I have no idea why gamers put up with this crap.

No, nobody spells it properly, so that's a null point.

Proof of concept, a tech demo maybe, but nothing more.

Yeah, sadly, it doesn't feel like a finished game. The story mode was quite short, but still enjoyable. However, the best thing for me was the atmosphere. The color palette, the music, the levels. I really enjoyed those few parts when no one is chasing you, giving you time to enjoy the soundtrack and the levels instead of just rushing through them.

In my opinion, the game should have had more of those.

I don't know whether I'm just really bad at it, but I found it impossible to play through some parts on hard mode without engaging enemies. Specifically, the parts where you had to do stupid shit like opening valves and climbing pipes to advance to the next area.

Since those are slow as fuck and require you to stay in the same place for a long time, you usually end up dying within the first 3 seconds.

I should warn you, my memory isn't too good.

There's no hand to hand option in dark messiah other than the kick. although you do unlock a demon form that lets you kill people by slashing them with your claws and stabbing them with your tail about halfway through the game. See dark messiah is all about launching enemies into spike traps or whatever. The kick is tied to the stamina meter because it's THE best attack for throwing people into shit because it's super fast and you don't even have to have very good aim. You can kill almost everything in this game by just kicking them into shit.
You can throw objects at people too, like barrels and shit, whether you count those as weapons or not is up to you. There's magic too. There's a stealth skill in this game too, but I've never used it. I know there are quite a few instances where you're given the option to just steal a key from someones hip and sneak your way to the next area though. The game is like deus ex in that it usually tries to give you a good 400 ways to get through each enemy encounter.
There are often special traps that you can use to kill bosses, or there are ways to avoid them entirely. You never even have to see the giant spider if you don't want to.
There are a few places where it's more or less required to have a weapon though. If you stab a cyclops in the eye he dies. You can usually avoid the cyclops though. I think there's two that you have to fight, I could be wrong though. You have to fight the orc boss. There are no traps and you won't move on until he's dead. You might be able to kick him to death, but that's certainly not something I've ever tried.
There's also the final boss. You're forced to fight him. I don't remember him too well though. If you don't consider spells weapons though, you can probably just burn him to death. There's also this giant worm thing. If I remember correctly you have to avoid him.
