Umineko is a babby's first VN of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of setting and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and META. The NEET anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for normal, sociable, underage faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The metaworld characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the magic, the peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole "colored text" faggotry and everything about the Umineko world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on love, and the overall preachiness of the whole series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Also, just because things went unanswered doesn't mean it didn't have closure. The closure was that it was the end of a fun story, and you can take it as that.

Pretty much, "You liked it, I don't need to explain shit." You can take the story and make of it what you will and draw your own conclusions, he answered a good part of the reasons pretty concretely in EP7. It was a fun read, and if you're looking for answers to everything you're just going to be disappointed.

If you still need answers: Yasu wrote 2 stories of what happened on the island. Battler, as Hachijo, found these and started remembering stuff. He then wrote 6 stories trying to remember what happened. The magic was just his way of reasoning.

Pretty much, nobody but Eva knew what actually happened on that island, so you can make up what you want regarding its events.

Kinzo's past offers background information on why Yasu exists in the first place and why the gold is there, and what happens to the island.

I see a lot of people are hung up on the fact of who is the true culprit. The answer: possibly any of the adults, save Eva. Bern's interpretation was just to make Ange angry.

Since the only person who knew what happened was Eva (Battler doesn't count since he has amnesia), the secrets of the island died with her. The accepted culprit is Kyrie, but it could have been anyone.

Oh, and as for the magical beings, most were Yasu's imaginary friends, while a few were Battler's creations. Bern and Lambda specifically were created by his own doubts...although how he managed to create lesbian sadistic loli witches out of such mundane stuff as a frilly pink cake and a black cat is beyond me.

Why are people talking about Higurashi and its relevance? It was used as a throwaway comment in EP1 that Battler happened to like that story. Higurashi exists in the universe as a novel or series of novels, nothing else.

You got it wrong. This whole story is retarded because in reality nothing actually happened. All episodes are fiction. We never saw real Ushiromiyas, we don't even really know them. How much Yasu or Battler actually knew about them? Yasu saw most of them for few days every year, Battler left the family years ago. They wrote about people they didn't even know.

Meta characters were the real characters in this story.

The manga is pretty bad. I liked the VN well enough though.

Higanbana could have been a mystery, and I think you could do some interesting things within its setting, but Ryuukishi seems to think of it as just a straight-up supernatural horror story.
