The problem is, these stagnant industries that are "on the decline" still practically own the American economy.
The ones on the right may be powerful and influential as far as the internet is concerned, but it's all about profit anyway. It's the American way. And the ones currently holding the reigns get to steer the horse.

You mean a developer and fix? You really don't need any kind of 'chemical lab' to develop good old black and white film. Even C-41 film is just one extra chemical and less tolerance for temperature variation. I pirate most of all things.
Yet I spend most of all my money on the same stuff. I buy the things because I like them, I pirate the things because I like them.
I have practically 0 interest in clothes or whatever, so I don't really know what else I would use my money on.

In either case though, America, never lost money on this. I don't see how, it is still the same amount of money in circulation. And while someone possibly refrains from buying the latest Microsoft OS, they might buy a limited edition bundle, or say, Playstation Vita or something, and if not, they might hit the theaters or heck, buy food for the money. In either case, it is still the same amount of money being spent.
