What about Touhou game play thread?

What game have you been playing recently?
Is there spellcard or boss that is causing troubles for you?

Fighting games are also welcome!

This run is the distillation of every Mokou run I've ever done after the first time I beat her.

A stupid death during the stage, that doesn't really matter.

Then I get winged once, and proceed to repeat that performance on every single spellcard and noncard after that time. And that ending... good lord, really? All of my orz.

>> No.8178426

I stopped playing for around a month because of the influx of new games.
I couldn't get past stage 5 on normal PCB without using a continue.
Need to start grinding practice mode an hour a day until I can 1cc everything again.

Trying to 1cc EoSD normal, can get past Patchouli fine without dying, as soon as I hit Stage 5 shit hits the fan. Practiced for so long and not seeing any improvements, also watched loads of replays. I'm using Reimu A.

Thinking of going onto something else to try to 1cc that though, any suggestions or should I stick with it?

Try playing EoSD with a different shot type. Unless you really like Reimu A and don't want to 1cc the game with anyone else, then I suggest you switch. First time I switched from Reimu A to Marisa B I got an entire stage further than I used to be able to.

>> No.8178551

I am trying to counterstop the UFO. Character choice is Sanae B, Lunatic. So far not good, progress is slow. The decision to reduce 8 reds to 6 red UFOs may not be the best, but I am making more mistakes trying to get the extra 2 Red rather than Rainbow.

>> No.8178568

I bet her "Misdirection" Spell card is trolling you. Just try to minimize your movement and you'll get a sudden urge facepalm quite hard.

And It seems I'll have to wait until the academic year finishes to start playing Toohoo again, but I got to Mamizou's last spell card by sheer luck the other day... or maybe it was the low frame-rate I got for playing in a shitty laptop.

He fixed it in that it doesn't crash anymore, but the game will still show broken negative numbers past 2^31, providing a solid counterstop goal. Amusingly enough, going past 2^32 will overflow the 4 bytes of the score display, looping back to 0 and counting up again. The game appears to internally represent the score with higher precision, however, and the score is saved correctly in the replay file.

Playing Mountain of Faith on normal. Sanae's spell card, Sea Opening "The Day the Sea Split" keeps getting me. That's the one where you have a narrow space and rains those long lasers down at you.

I know I have to do VERY small movements in one direction and then switch to the other direction when I get too close to the side of the screen. But the switch always gets me, I can never seem to find an opening when I need one.

StB and DS aren't all about dodging. It's more like each scene is a puzzle that you need to solve.

Chances are you are just doing something wrong. With 2-6, for an easy clear, you will need to be charging at all times. Take a picture right as the blue bullets finish spawning. You'll probably start falling behind by the last shot, but just try to keep up.

There are also a dozen videos on YouTube you could look up.

>Stage 5 practice, there's a bit of slowdown on this one.
This seemed fine, really. There was some panic during Shou's noncards, but those curvy lasers can be scary. Just know that lasers are thin, so a small dodge is just as good as a big one. Don't panic or rush around unfocused.

>This is the most far I got to, played on a old computer, and it has been two months ago.
After I saw you get maximum lives in the middle of Stage 4, I was wondering how you could possibly mess this up. You were shaky during Murasa, especially during the survival card. Keep moving so you never get stuck, but don't rush and crash into slow bullets. Consistency is the key. Stage 5 wasn't perfect, but you still reached Stage 6 with a healthy amount of resources. Unfortunately, you fucked up the stage a lot and gathered almost no resources, only to die half way through Byakuren.

After watching these, I don't know how you haven't 1cc'd the game yet. You certainly have the skill to finish the game, but maybe you just lack the consistency or experience with the later stages.

I made a couple replays. Maybe they will help.

http://replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=17253
A proposed route for Stage 5 that gains 3 lives. Feel free to ignore it since some of the things I do are risky, and your route in your replays is fine enough. However, I pacify Shou, so if there is anything about her you are unsure about, this replay will have a timeout of it.

http://replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=17254
Similar to the other replay, but I think this will be much more useful to you. The proposed stage route does use a bomb, but you can potentially gain 5 bombs to make up for it. You can replace one or two of the green UFOs with red ones, but I wouldn't recommend more than that. The stage is organized for either scoring or bomb hoarding. Pick and choose what you feel comfortable with. Byakuren is pacified other than her two cards with damage-based difficulty, so maybe you'll learn something from that.

Feel free to ask any questions if there is something specific you need help with.

Wow that's a lot of advice, thanks.
I think then I should just practice stage 6, maybe I should just get a score.dat from someone else and train since the stage can't be unlocked unless you defeat Byakuren.
