Not that it's really of /jp/'s interest, but what do you think of Seimoe's results so far? For those unaware, Seimoe is a western Touhou fandom moe contest at http://seimoe.lunar-tokyo.net/..

The results at http://seimoe.lunar-tokyo.net/Status.html display notable differences in peoples' choices compared to Japanese Touhou popularity polls. What pleases you, what surprises you?

Now this is one consensus reached on both sides of the ocean. Yuuka is also WAY ahead of Kaguya in the annual Japanese Touhou poll. In fact, she even beat Marisa and Sanae this year.

Merlin losing to Lunasa? What the fuck? Lunasa the only Prismriver who isn't good, that doesn't make any sense. Fucking wasterners.

>The results at http://seimoe.lunar-tokyo.net/Status.html display notable differences in peoples' choices compared to Japanese Touhou popularity polls.

Actually, no, they don't. They display notable (and blatantly obvious) differences between the voting methods.

Some results I find disappointing, but none are in any way surprising so far. That said - western fanbase, who the fuck cares.

Good point. However, Bkub is relatively more popular in the west than Japan, in addition to a there being a tendency to favor ensemble darkhorses rather than default protagonists. These things together may have contributed towards Chen almost getting twice Reimu's votes, which is far more unlikely to happen in Japanese polls

>> No.8168739

>>8168681
>a tendency to favor ensemble darkhorses

Don't apply TVTropes bullshit to Touhou, it's just not going to fit.

>which is far more unlikely to happen in Japanese polls

Wrong. Remember who won last time Japan had this kind of contest? It's just normal.

It's not about who's more popular, it's about who's more likable. Assuming constant voter base who's mostly familliar with the setting (PC-98, generic enemies and various non-characters that made their way to the bracket somehow aside), only a small fraction of voters will have a chance to vote for their actual favourites in any given match. Everything is decided by an uncommitted majority basing their choices on general impressions, or simply a whim.

It's a good thing /jp/ doesn't participate, since Bkub's popularity on /a/ would sway the vote easily - not for Chen, against her.

The question is: wasn't this supposed to be about moe, and not popularity?

I've seen quite some anger towards Yuuka's victory in particular, because of "she only won because of the youkaimoe forced meme, she's not really moe", etc

This is what's ambiguous for me. This sort of contests always ends up being a popularity contest, so I can't tell if what's moe to me is way out of line with everyone else, or if people just vote for the one that's most popular. I mean, judging by moe factor, how is Yuuka able to beat Kaguya, or Keine able to beat Reisen? I honestly can't see what's moe about those two.

Also, why the hell do a good chunk of the voters felt the need to use a name when voting for this kind of thing? what the fuck

>> No.8169372

>>8169343
Oh, for fucks sake. Eye of the beholder, how many times does this need to be repeated? It's other people's feelings, you don't need to understand them. You sure could learn to accept them, though.

Also, the more people like someone, the more popular she is. It's bloody obvious, what else are you expecting?

I can't believe I'm defending a saimoe, but it's not a competition. Though, admittedly, some voters need to be informed about this.

And it's just the first round, really. The second and beyond will be composed (almost) exclusively of Windows era characters. Which are, for this particular purpose, equals.
