Suppose someone has a huge collection of Gundam models and assorted merchandise, likes collecting figures of young, male characters, likes primarily seinen, historical, mecha and science-fiction anime, has learned Japanese, knows the names of all his favourite (male) seiyuu by heart and primarily faps to bara and yaoi based on his favourite gundam/sci-fi/historical anime.

Can such a homosexual be classified as an otaku?

otaku means anyone who holds an obsession with something. look around you. most of 4chan has to do with some sort of otaku.
sports, literature, cosplay, video games, politics, paranormal, what have you.
it's all over the place.
if someone holds an obsession with all that yaranaika stuff then yeah, that person is a gaytaku
