To those of you that aren't NEETs living with your parents or alone (off of autism bux or court settlements or whatnot) I feel your pain. College dorms are among the second lowest common denominators of fucking trash imaginable. These creatures befoul all they touch, violate any manner of privacy, personal space and sanctity, and are unintelligible in their braying that they make wingdings look like times new roman in comparison. I am surrounded by illiterate braying fools whose thoughts couldn't reach past their own loins if their own lives depended upon it.

For those of you that share my situation, I have the utmost empathy, and for those of you that have circumvented such a need to be in my situation or avoided it altogether, you have my envy.

Pic related; I'm fairly sure I'm about on Reimu's level when it comes to almost ready to lose my shit.

not liking it very much is fine; discontentment is a fairly universal feeling, and I can understand that. However, while you're doing just okay, I'm steadily increasing my blood-pressure from overexposure to sheer volumes of uncharted idiocy on a daily basis.

These people can't spell, they can't take care of themselves, they lack any sort of critical thinking, and I've yet to find someone that's smarter than the average high school student from where I came from.

Simple idea.

You, being of elevated (assuming) intelligence are more capable than your friends at perceiving and comparing options.

They, being of lesser intelligence (compared to the theoretical you), don't have as many possibilities flying through their mind at a time.

They see the fruit, and pluck it.
You see the fruit, consider whether it's good or not, create a plucking apparatus, look up two or three recipes to try, buy a new paring knife, and....WHERE THE FUCK DID IT GO?!?!?!

You could see reasonable success if you let what doesn't matter slide more. Everything beyond that is practice and community.

I was in dorms, I was lucky enough to get a single room to myself though. Granted, it was amazingly tiny, I think I measured it as about 10x11.5 feet.

I liked it actually, or rather, I liked being able to get out of bed and walk over to the cafeteria for some breakfast. I never cook breakfast on my own now and so I kind of miss being able to have a bunch of it every day.

The people across the hall never really bugged me either. The little tiny room sort of sucked at first, but I eventually grew fond of it as being so cozy and crazily efficient. I covered it up with the posters/wall scrolls at the time including the ceiling, and I had various little lights strung up too as my default lighting. What I still miss though, is that it was so small, that I had my TV at the foot of my bed and would watch a ton of anime from there. The TV sat on top of my mini-fridge and so, yeah, as I said, it was just so fucking efficient, while watching I could reach over and down a bit to access any drink/snack I wanted without having to get out of bed either. I used to think it must be terrible to live in one of those micro-apartments in Japan, but now I see how people can tolerate (if not enjoy it) like that.

Well, you could have joined a club for that, I guess you should have kept an eye open during OPERs. As to which one... I'm not sure actually. I haven't paid attention to the clubs in years.

Also there seems to be a disproportionate number of /jp/ers here or who have been here. Something about this place I guess; it being the "counterculture" UC? There's also more numbers than I'd wish of really obnoxious gaia types, I actually sometimes saw people walking around in cosplay on campus before. You have no idea how much that wrecked my day. But, there are a couple of /a/ (and auxiliary /jp/) users as well, and considering how little effort it took me to find some of our own, there's probably more there than I realize. In some parts of campus low power levels (with some occasionally respectable ones) are practically the norm actually, I remember when I lived on campus they used to play anime OSTs in the Crown cafeteria all the time.

But, I only pull it out while I hold onto my keys, while on the bus to the parking lot .. so, the chances of you being there and looking in my direction, in the 2 minutes per day it's not in my pocket in public, are laughably small.

When I visited Japan, I initially couldn't get over how surreal it felt to see even those trashy harem anime on real, live TV. Albeit, most of them air between 12-3, but still that only added to the experience, as with keeping up with the futaba threads in between commercial breaks.
